Book The Book of Fluttering Words

Download or read book The Book of Fluttering Words written by Raafay Awan and published by Raafay Awan. This book was released on 2021-08-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have never been good at poetry, which is what I have always told myself. Long ago though I read a poem; “A man of words and not of deeds" by ― Percy B. Green .. and fell in love with poetry. In life you go through the good at bad times, and these times teach you to do things that you never thought would be possible. I tried several times to come up with catchy poetry but was always too embarrassed to share it with anyone else. I guess now is the right time for me to collect all my works and give them a book form. I have tried to compile a variety of genres here such as love, patriotism, sadness, happiness, humour, real life events, dialogues, feelings, thoughts, religion, and observations. I am in no way saying it will be worth reading, but I hope people reading this will try to absorb themselves in the words the same way I did when I was writing them.

Book Indestructibles Flutter Fly

Download or read book Indestructibles Flutter Fly written by Amy Pixton and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Announcing a brand new idea in publishing books for babies: the completely durable, completely safe Indestructibles. Published on the same paper-like material used in shipping envelopes, Indestructibles are 100% baby-proof: chew-proof, drool-proof, and rip-proof. That's because Indestructibles not only will not tear or turn gummy with teething, but they are also completely washable. Indestructibles are also energetic, beautiful, and created just for baby. The printing material reproduces color artwork with uncommon depth, and with no residual inkiness; the artwork, paintings by Kaaren Pixton and reminiscent of Eric Carle, is happy, each page a simple, colorful image of an animal or bird or insect against a rich, textured background. The effect is 3D-like and completely visual. There are no words, making each perfect for parents and babies to look at together, with mom or dad telling the story. Three titles launch the series: Creep! Crawl! about animals that crawl, Flutter! Fly! about animals that fly, and Wiggle! March! about farm animals—books babies can really sink their teeth into.

The moment eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell met Callen Hayes, she knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her—Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word. Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire. But they don't belong in each other's worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.

Book The Book of Human Emotions

Download or read book The Book of Human Emotions written by Tiffany Watt Smith and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thoughtful, gleeful encyclopedia of emotions, both broad and outrageously specific, from throughout history and around the world. How do you feel today? Is your heart fluttering in anticipation? Your stomach tight with nerves? Are you falling in love? Feeling a bit miffed? Do you have the heebie-jeebies? Are you antsy with iktsuarpok or filled with nakhes? Recent research suggests there are only six basic emotions. But if that makes you feel uneasy, suspicious, and maybe even a little bereft, THE BOOK OF HUMAN EMOTIONS is for you. In this unique book, you'll get to travel across the world and through time, learning how different cultures have articulated the human experience and picking up some fascinating new knowledge about yourself along the way. From the familiar (anger) to the foreign (zal), each entertaining and informative alphabetical entry reveals the surprising connections and fascinating facts behind our emotional lives. Whether you're in search of the perfect word to sum up that cozy feeling you get from being inside on a cold winter's night, surrounded by friends and good food (what the Dutch call gezelligheid), or wondering how nostalgia evolved from a fatal illness to enjoyable self-indulgence, Tiffany Watt Smith draws on history, anthropology, science, art, literature, music, and popular culture to find the answers. In reading THE BOOK OF HUMAN EMOTIONS, you'll discover feelings you never knew you had (like basorexia, the sudden urge to kiss someone) and gain unexpected insights into why you feel the way you do. Besides, aren't you curious what nginyiwarrarringu means?

Book The Dictionary of Lost Words

Download or read book The Dictionary of Lost Words written by Pip Williams and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK • “Delightful . . . [a] captivating and slyly subversive fictional paean to the real women whose work on the Oxford English Dictionary went largely unheralded.”—The New York Times Book Review “A marvelous fiction about the power of language to elevate or repress.”—Geraldine Brooks, New York Times bestselling author of People of the Book Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, an Oxford garden shed in which her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word bondmaid flutters beneath the table. She rescues the slip and, learning that the word means “slave girl,” begins to collect other words that have been discarded or neglected by the dictionary men. As she grows up, Esme realizes that words and meanings relating to women’s and common folks’ experiences often go unrecorded. And so she begins in earnest to search out words for her own dictionary: the Dictionary of Lost Words. To do so she must leave the sheltered world of the university and venture out to meet the people whose words will fill those pages. Set during the height of the women’s suffrage movement and with the Great War looming, The Dictionary of Lost Words reveals a lost narrative, hidden between the lines of a history written by men. Inspired by actual events, author Pip Williams has delved into the archives of the Oxford English Dictionary to tell this highly original story. The Dictionary of Lost Words is a delightful, lyrical, and deeply thought-provoking celebration of words and the power of language to shape the world. WINNER OF THE AUSTRALIAN BOOK INDUSTRY AWARD

Book excerpt: I took off in a run, stopping on the other side of the trees. Where Atlantis had once stood was now nothing but water and the tops of buildings. Hands protruded from the water, along with bubbles and the horrid screams of the dying. A large group of humans stood on the bank laughing and pointing, as my brothers and sisters screamed for help.Anger flashed through my every pore in an instant, oozing out of my body. That was until I saw the castle jolt, then slam three stories into the water. Only the top story was left above... the story Athan was still on.Without thinking, I jumped onto the top of the nearest building. It jerked under my weight and sunk a little farther. Water swished over my bare foot and I screamed. I forced myself to leap onto the next building. I almost slipped, but gained my balance by grabbing another fairy's arm.She was only halfway above the water, and was far younger than me. Her eyes were desperate for help, her arms chained to the floor beneath her. She was stuck inside the building while I was hanging off the outside. I looked from her to castle, tears welling in my eyes. She stayed silent, letting go of my arm, and nodding for me to go. I jumped to the next building without looking back at her. She and I both knew she would be dead within the next few minutes. The building I was now on was longer, and closer to my destination. I was able to run the length of it and jump onto the side of the castle.I dug my claws into the marble and made my way into the window I had earlier flown out of. As soon as my feet hit the floor I began running to our room. I could hear his screams echoing through the halls. He was the only one on this floor. I probably could have made it through the water and to him a lot faster if I had flictated, but all I could think of was my husband chained to the floor awaiting his death.
