Book The Book Around Immanuel

Download or read book The Book Around Immanuel written by Andrew H. Bartelt and published by Eisenbrauns. This book was released on 1996 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the process of examining rhetorical style in Isaiah 2-12, Professor Bartelt provides a convincing reading of the text that also serves as a model for the study of the prophetic writings. He recognizes both parallelism and meter as complementary factors to consider in interpreting the text. Applying the principles both of poetic (based on the work of D. N. Freedman) and rhetorical (based on the work of J. Muilenburg) analysis, Bartelt examines in detail the style and structure of Isaiah 2-12. The careful craftsmanship evident in the section is demonstrated by Bartelt's careful examination of all levels of the composition, from the line to the verse to the larger literary units. He shows that the "Book of Immanuel" lies at the thematic and statistical center of Isaiah 2-12.

Book Emmanuel s Book

Book excerpt: Here is the revealing underground classic, a work that stands beside the "Seth" books as a delightful and invaluable guide to our inner spirit and our outer world. Emmanuel speaks to us through Pat Rodegast and shares his wisdom and insights on all aspects of life. Beautifully written and illustrated, Emmanuel's Book I is to be treasured, enjoyed and passed on to a friend. Emmanuel says: "The gifts I wish to give you are my deepest love, the safety of truth, the wisdom of the universe and the reality of God . . . . The issue of whether there is a Greater Reality or not, for me at least, has been settled. I know that there is. So I will speak to you from the knowing that I possess." Ram Dass, in the introduction, says: "Being with Emmanuel one comes to appreciate the vast evolutionary context in which our lives are being lived . . . And at each moment we are at just the right place in the journey. As Emmanuel points out, 'Who you are is a necessary step to being who you will be.'"

Book excerpt: This story is for everyone--but not everyone is for this story. It is a dangerous tale of times past. A love story full of deep seduction. A story of terrible longing and bold sacrifice. Then as now, evil begins its courtship cloaked in light. And the heart embraces what it should flee. Forgetting it once had a truer lover. With a kiss, evil will ravage body, soul, and mind. Yet there remains hope, because the heart knows no bounds. Love will prove greater than lust. Sacrifice will overcome seduction. And blood will flow. Because the battle for the heart is always violently opposed. For those desperate to drink deep from this fountain of life, enter. But remember, not everyone is for this story. "A heart-wrenching journey of redemption and hope that left me sobbing, laughing, and clinging to every word."--Donna McChristian, 44, Environmental Chemist

Book Guest Workers and Resistance to U S Corporate Despotism

Download or read book Guest Workers and Resistance to U S Corporate Despotism written by Immanuel Ness and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political scientist Immanuel Ness thoroughly investigates the use of guest workers in the United States, the largest recipient of migrant labor in the world. Ness argues that the use of migrant labor is increasing in importance and represents despotic practices calculated by key U.S. business leaders in the global economy to lower labor costs and expand profits under the guise of filling a shortage of labor for substandard or scarce skilled jobs. Drawing on ethnographic field research, government data, and other sources, Ness shows how worker migration and guest worker programs weaken the power of labor in both sending and receiving countries. His in-depth case studies of the rapid expansion of technology and industrial workers from India and hospitality workers from Jamaica reveal how these programs expose guest workers to employers' abuses and class tensions in their home countries while decreasing jobs for American workers and undermining U.S. organized labor. Where other studies of labor migration focus on undocumented immigrant labor and contend immigrants fill jobs that others do not want, this is the first to truly advance understanding of the role of migrant labor in the transformation of the working class in the early twenty-first century. Questioning why global capitalists must rely on migrant workers for economic sustenance, Ness rejects the notion that temporary workers enthusiastically go to the United States for low-paying jobs. Instead, he asserts the motivations for improving living standards in the United States are greatly exaggerated by the media and details the ways organized labor ought to be protecting the interests of American and guest workers in the United States.

Book Worlds in Collision

Book excerpt: With this book Immanuel Velikovsky first presented the revolutionary results of his 10-year-long interdisciplinary research to the public, founded modern catastrophism - based on eyewitness reports by our ancestors - shook the doctrine of uniformity of geology as well as Darwin's theory of evolution, put our view of the history of our solar system, of the Earth and of humanity on a completely new basis - and caused an uproar that is still going on today. Worlds in Collision - written in a brilliant, easily understandable and entertaining style and full to the brim with precise information - can be considered one of the most important and most challenging books in the history of science. Not without reason was this book found open on Einstein's desk after his death. For all those who have ever wondered about the evolution of the earth, the history of mankind, traditions, religions, mythology or just the world as it is today, Worlds in Collision is an absolute MUST-READ!

Download or read book Reflections of Immanuel written by Scott Lencke and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year, society cycles back around to the all-important date of December 25. This date is bookended by Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, yielding a five- to six-week festive holiday period within American culture. Yet, the historic church has held to a different rhythm, one that begins with the season of Advent and then moves into the twelve days of Christmas. The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” It’s a time of preparation and anticipation as we head toward the celebration of Christ’s birth. Some of us have previously walked through the seasons of the church’s calendar, others perhaps not. But it is a story that is deeply enriching. Reflections of Immanuel invites the reader to wait for Christmas and join the church’s rhythmic story of Advent. As we patiently move through the season, and then on to Christmas itself, this little book offers fresh insights on familiar Scripture passages and themes.

Book Emmanuel s Dream The True Story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah

Download or read book Emmanuel s Dream The True Story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah written by Laurie Ann Thompson and published by Schwartz & Wade. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah's inspiring true story—which was turned into a film, Emmanuel's Gift, narrated by Oprah Winfrey—is nothing short of remarkable. Born in Ghana, West Africa, with one deformed leg, he was dismissed by most people—but not by his mother, who taught him to reach for his dreams. As a boy, Emmanuel hopped to school more than two miles each way, learned to play soccer, left home at age thirteen to provide for his family, and, eventually, became a cyclist. He rode an astonishing four hundred miles across Ghana in 2001, spreading his powerful message: disability is not inability. Today, Emmanuel continues to work on behalf of the disabled. Thompson's lyrical prose and Qualls's bold collage illustrations offer a powerful celebration of triumphing over adversity. Includes an author's note with more information about Emmanuel's charity.
