Book The Holy Bible Old and New Testaments King James Version

Download or read book The Holy Bible Old and New Testaments King James Version written by GOD and published by . This book was released on with total page 3178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Bible : Old and New Testaments (King James Version) This book include History of King James Bible and their work. The King James Version (KJV), commonly known as the Authorized Version (AV) or King James Bible (KJB), is an English translation of the Christian Bible for the Church of England begun in 1604 and completed in 1611. First printed by the King's Printer Robert Barker, this was the third translation into English to be approved by the English Church authorities. The first was the Great Bible commissioned in the reign of King Henry VIII, and the second was the Bishops' Bible of 1568. In January 1604, King James I convened the Hampton Court Conference where a new English version was conceived in response to the perceived problems of the earlier translations as detected by the Puritans, a faction within the Church of England. James gave the translators instructions intended to guarantee that the new version would conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its belief in an ordained clergy. The translation was done by 47 scholars, all of whom were members of the Church of England. In common with most other translations of the period, the New Testament was translated from Greek, the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew text, while the Apocrypha were translated from the Greek and Latin. In the Book of Common Prayer (1662), the text of the Authorized Version replaced the text of the Great Bible – for Epistle and Gospel readings – and as such was authorized by Act of Parliament. By the first half of the 18th century, the Authorized Version was effectively unchallenged as the English translation used in Anglican and Protestant churches. Over the course of the 18th century, the Authorized Version supplanted the Latin Vulgate as the standard version of scripture for English speaking scholars. Today, the most used edition of the King James Bible, and often identified as plainly the King James Version, especially in the United States, closely follows the standard text of 1769, edited by Benjamin Blayney at Oxford.

Book Children s King James Bible New Testament

Download or read book Children s King James Bible New Testament written by Peter Palmer and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Bible that started it all. This Bible in children's language is dedicated to every young man and young lady in the world! Originally published in 1960, it is a word for word updating of the King James in language that any normal 9 year old can read. No greater riches can be put in youth's hands than the riches contained in this book. Every God-breathed word is in these volumes. For the first time since it was written nearly two thousand years ago, every word is being given to young men and ladies, broken down into their own language. Now for the first time the fruit of the Spirit of God is offered to young readers so that they can gather its fruit for themselves. And what glorious fruit it is! "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control" and "everlasting life." (See Galatians 5:22; 6:8) Is there anyone that does not desire such fruit as this in their life and future? Is not happiness itself bound up in these things? And more, is not the reading of the Bible the only hope of living forever? For God has said, "This is life everlasting, that they should know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou didst send." And how shall they know Him? "Faith comes by hearing, and haring by the word of God." The reading of the Bible is their only hope, but it is a blessed hope indeed. In providing this Bible for children, our purpose has been to do our utmost toward giving the young people of our day the opportunity to have a good life here, and a far better life hereafter. There has never been a time when so much interest was shown in the welfare of our young people. We see teeming Sunday Schools, busy vacation Bible schools, active child evangelism organizations, and the most zealous effort to educate children ever mounted by the people of any society, Yet with all this sincere and well-directed effort, one of the most important things of all has not been available until now - the Bible in a language the child can read and understand. Now for the first time in history these hard-working, loving people have a textbook from which to teach these young learners both grace and knowledge - THE CHILDREN'S KING JAMES BIBLE. Why must they have the Bible in their own language? Do we not go to great expense in our grade schools to provide textbooks which will teach our youth what they need to know quickly and fully? Do we give them textbooks in adult language? Of course not! The what about the Book of books? What about the knowledge of God? Shall we continue to teach the most important subject of all, in language the children do not understand? What teacher wants to teach from a book which the children cannot even read for themselves? But in this age of personal choice let the child tell you for themselves if they prefer to learn the "words of life" in language they can neither pronounce nor read nor understand. Do not think that our children desire to be deprived of love, peace, joy, kindness, goodness, faith and everlasting life! No indeed, they want to live life at its fullest. Anyone who has ever looked into their intent, eager young faces can tell you that they thirst for knowledge - and they drink it in when they are taught in language they can understand. Of course, there is no greater knowledge, no more desirable wisdom, no sweeter joy than that of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. Jay P. Green, Sr. (1918-2008) is Translator and Editor of The Interlinear Hebrew-Greek-English Bible and the translator of the Modern King James Version of the Holy Bible, The Teenage Version of the Holy Bible, and the Literal translation of the Holy Bible. He has written numerous books on textual criticism.

Book God s Secretaries

Download or read book God s Secretaries written by Adam Nicolson and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK “This scrupulously elegant account of the creation of what four centuries of history has confirmed is the finest English-language work of all time, is entirely true to its subject: Adam Nicolson’s lapidary prose is masterly, his measured account both as readable as the curious demand and as dignified as the story deserves.” — Simon Winchester, author of Krakatoa In God's Secretaries, Adam Nicolson gives a fascinating and dramatic account of the era of the King James Bible and its translation, immersing us in an age whose greatest monument is not a painting or a building but a book. A network of complex currents flowed across Jacobean England. This was the England of Shakespeare, Jonson, and Bacon; the era of the Gunpowder Plot and the worst outbreak of the plague. Jacobean England was both more godly and less godly than the country had ever been, and the entire culture was drawn taut between these polarities. This was the world that created the King James Bible. It is the greatest work of English prose ever written, and it is no coincidence that the translation was made at the moment "Englishness," specifically the English language itself, had come into its first passionate maturity. The English of Jacobean England has a more encompassing idea of its own scope than any form of the language before or since. It drips with potency and sensitivity. The age, with all its conflicts, explains the book. This P.S. edition features an extra 16 pages of insights into the book, including author interviews, recommended reading, and more.

Book Corrected King James Version

Download or read book Corrected King James Version written by Shaun C Kennedy and published by . This book was released on 2020-05 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrected King James VersionComplete New TestamentThere is a legend that Thomas Jefferson used to take a knife and cut out verses of the Bible that he didn't like. The results of his labor are known through the Smithsonian Museum. He doubted the veracity of the biblical authors, even though he believed Christ to be a great moral teacher. Jefferson was not the only one to cut things out of his Bible that caused him problems. Martin Luther was famous for wanting to relocate the epistle of James to an appendix. He did manage to find grounded logic by which the could remove the books of the Maccabees from his Old Testament when they were invoked against his problems with indulgences. Most of protestantism has followed him in maintaining Bibles with an Old Testament handed over strictly by Jewish scribes. While I admire Jefferson's and Luther's sincerity, I disagree with their premise. Jefferson and Luther decided what God must have said, then shaped their canon to match. I would rather determine what the canon is and use that to determine what God must have said.I believe that The Holy Spirit has aided and guided the process of biblical development. I'm uncomfortable with some images of inspiration in the popular sphere. The best description I've heard for how inspiration works comes from Plato's dialog Ion. In that, Plato (through the caricature of Socrates) explains that inspiration is like a magnet, and that once it touches a ring of iron, the ring becomes magnetic as well. I believe that God, through the course of living events, touches some of us. When some, particularly the Apostles and Prophets, are in their closest communication with God, their thoughts become divine. When those thoughts come out on ink and paper, that ink and paper becomes (in a sense) embedded with divine thoughts. To borrow an analogy from another great thinker, it is like a map of a great idea. The map is not the ocean. It can't get me wet. I can't sail my boat on it. But if I want to know the safest and best places to get wet or the most efficient way to sail my boat, the map is a better guide than a swimming pool.I really understand where Jefferson and Luther were coming from. I really like bacon with my breakfast, and there was a point in my life that I really had to take some time and put the study in on that issue. After all, the Bible does say, "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you." (Leviticus 11:7) and unlike Jefferson, I was unwilling to just cut that verse out because it was inconvenient. I wanted to know what God actually said, not what I wanted God to have said.I hope this dispels the fear that some could have regarding my project. My aim is more in line with Erasmus than Jefferson. However poorly he got started, Erasmus set out to understand what the Bible said in the original language. So if I still end up having texts that are difficult for me and not having the clarity of text I might hope for, what is the point of creating a Corrected King James Bible? The point is to get just a little bit closer to the magnet of Christ and the Prophets and the Apostles. The point is the bring my ear just a few inches closer to God's lips so I can hear him that much more clearly. I think that the King James translators got it wrong in 1 John 5:7-8. I think that they put words in the Bible that were never supposed to be there, no matter how convenient they are for me. So I'm taking those words out so that I can more clearly hear the words that God has placed in the Bible. My goal is to provide a single translation of God's Word according to the sources that prayer and study has convinced me is the best primary source. Ultimately, I would like to translate all of these myself as well, but in the meantime The Corrected King James gives me a standardized English text to read and study from.
