Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Beauty and Truth of the Catholic Church, Vol. 2: Sermons From the German, Adapted and Edited The following words of our divine Saviour, con cisely and beautifully tell us His sublime mission to men: I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. Innumerable are the ways men go, but there is only one right way, only one that leads to eternal happiness, and that way is Christ. Innumerable opinions govern men, shadowing forth various truths, but only one truth shows us the greatness of God, and our own destiny, and that truth Christ taught, and the Catho lic Church still teaches. How varied is the life of man? But there is only one life pleasing to God, one that leads to eternal life, one that is a life with and for Christ. Book All the Beautiful Things

Download or read book All the Beautiful Things written by Beth Doherty and published by ATF Press. This book was released on 2020-03-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking as its theme 'beauty from ashes' the beautiful image from Isaiah 61:3, All the Beautiful Things: Finding Truth, Beauty and Goodness in a Fractured Church is written at a time when the Catholic Church and its people are reeling from years of scandal. This book asks questions throughout and attempts to answer them based on the author's lived experience; but it also engages a wide range of conversation partners. These answers are the result of interviews, surveys and conversations with people who love the Church, but seek reform and renewal. It is a 'cri de coeur', a cry of the heart to try to reclaim what has been lost. It is a taking up of a cross and walking on a journey paved with all manner of challenge. In the end, the author's hope is to help others to rediscover the truth, beauty and goodness that still exist within Catholicism.

Download or read book Reclaiming Vatican II written by Fr. Blake Britton and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a first-place award for a first time author and second-place in popular presentation of the faith from the Catholic Media Association. During the past five decades, the Second Vatican Council has been alternately celebrated or maligned for its supposed break with tradition and embrace of the modern world. But what if we’ve gotten it all wrong? Have Catholics—both those who embrace the spirit of Vatican II and those who regard it with suspicion—misunderstood what the council was really about? Fr. Blake Britton discovered the truth and beauty of the council while he was in seminary and he has witnessed firsthand the power of its teachings in the life of his own parish. In Reclaiming Vatican II—a partnership between Ave Maria Press and Word on Fire Catholic Ministries—Britton presses beyond the political narrative foisted upon the post-conciliar Church and contends that Vatican II was neither conservative nor liberal, but something much more beautiful and challenging. Britton clears up misconceptions about the council and reveals how—when properly understood and applied—it fosters a richer experience of being in the Church. Britton says Vatican II promotes a radical return to the Church Fathers and the Scriptures, holding both a commitment to tradition and the need for constant renewal in life-giving balance, recenters the Church on sacred liturgy and encourages both active participation and genuine encounter with transcendence, and charts a clear path for the Church’s renewal and empowers it for evangelism and transformative engagement with the world. Britton invites all Catholics to step beyond the polarization and embrace Vatican II as one of our greatest resources for being in the Church in a way that is faithful, engaged, and effective if we answer its radical call to worship and renewal.

Download or read book The Glories of the Catholic Church Vol 2 written by John Gilmary Shea and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Glories of the Catholic Church, Vol. 2: The Catholic Christian Instructed in Defence of His Faith; A Complete Exposition of the Catholic Doctrine, Together With a Full Explanation of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass The Most Provident God, who by an admirable counsel of charity, raised mankind in the beginning to a participation in the divine nature, and then, after they had been freed from a common stain and from destruction, restored them to their pristine dignity, has also conferred upon them the singular safeguard of laying open to them in a supernatural way the mysteries of His divinity, wisdom, and mercy. For although there are also included in divine revelation things which are not inaccessible to human reason, so revealed to men that they can be understood by all quickly with firm certainty and without any admixture of error, yet not for this reason is revelation to be said to be absolutely necessary, but because God in His infinite goodness designed man for a supernatural end (Conc. Vat., sess. iii., cap.2, de Revel.). This supernatural revelation, according to the belief of the Universal Church, is contained both in unwritten conditions and also in written books, which are called sacred and canonical, because, being written with the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, they have God for their author, and as such they were given to the Church (Ibid). Download or read book The Truths of the Catholic Religion Vol 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Truths of the Catholic Religion, Vol. 2: Proved From Scripture Alone, in a Series of Popular Discourses Chiefly Addressed to Non-Catholics The Doctrine of the Catholic Church, regarding the veneration of relics, is thus denned by the Fathers of the Council of Trent. The Holy Synod decrees: "That the bodies of holy martyrs and of others now living with Christ, which were the members of Christ and the temples of the Holy Spirit, and which shall be raised by him to eternal life and be glorified, are to be venerated by the faithful. Through them many benefits are bestowed on men by God; so that they who affirm that no veneration and honour are due to the relics of Saints, or that to honour them and other sacred monuments is useless, as likewise to celebrate the memories of Saints in order to obtain their aid, are absolutely to be condemned, as the Church has condemned and does condemn them." - Sess. xxv. de Invocat. SS. In these relics we Catholics do not imagine any inherent power, any supernatural and divine efficacy.
