Their love causes the past and the future to collide, transporting them both into a world of gun crime and gangs. Where the language of the day consists of Street slang and the music is consumed in Hip Hop and Rap , all played out on the inner city streets of the UK Luccius is a prince from a Kingdom called Alpha; he falls for a peasant girl, called Nieve. Their love is instant and powerful. Maximillius, Luccius's elder brother, wants to be King, is jealous of his little brother. He is driven by lust and desire for Nieve, in an effort to fulfil his desires Maximillius makes a pact with the devil in exchange for his soul. Luccius senses that there is a malevolence affecting the kingdom, he conveys his feelings to Nieve, she tells him of a mystical woman that lives in the forest, the oracle. Luccius and Nieve visit this woman, who tells them of a prophecy, foretelling of a perfect moment when two worlds combine to form the Beautiful Newness. Tragedy catapults Luccius and Nieve into a parallel world, a world where the prophecy and Luccius destiny are slowly revealed. Download or read book Foundations of Violence written by Grace M Jantzen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pursuit of death and the love of death has characterized Western culture from Homeric times through centuries of Christianity, taking particular deadly shapes in Western postmodernity. This necrophilia shows itself in destruction and violence, in a focus on other worlds and degradation of this one, and in hatred of the body, sense and sexuality. In her major new book project Death and the Displacement of Beauty, Grace M. Jantzen seeks to disrupt this wish for death, opening a new acceptance of beauty and desire that makes it possible to choose life. Foundations of Violence enters the ancient world of Homer, Sophocles, Plato and Aristotle to explore the genealogy of violence in Western thought through its emergence in Greece and Rome. It uncovers origins of ideas of death from the 'beautiful death' of Homeric heroes to the gendered misery of war, showing the tensions between those who tried to eliminate fear of death by denying its significance, and those like Plotinus who looked to another world, seeking life and beauty in another realm.

Book excerpt: Practical philosophy comes to life in author Daniel B. Martin’s travels. This non-fictional story is constructed from stream of consciousness diary entries written as he moved from California to Hawaii and later traveled from Hawaii back to California, only to leave again for Paris, Amsterdam, Lyon, Annecy, Geneva and back around. The mission was simple: forget cultural biases and see the world through a fresher set of eyes. The study of conscious experience of phenomena known philosophically as phenomenology (a scary sounding word to some) is the method used to blur the borders between philosophy and nonfictional literature in Life is Weird. This may at first be quite unsettling, but it can also be wonderful. Open your eyes, and become excited for whatever comes around the next bend. Download or read book Wholeheartedness written by Chuck DeGroat and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2016 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I'm being pulled in a thousand different directions. As a therapist, Chuck DeGroat hears that line all the time. "I hear it from students and software developers," he says. "I hear it from spiritual leaders and coffee baristas. And I hear it from my own inner self." We all feel that nasty pull to and fro, the frantic busyness that exhausts us and threatens to undo us. And we all think we know the solution -- more downtime, more relaxation, more rest. And we're all wrong. As DeGroat himself has discovered, the real solution to what pulls us apart is wholeheartedness, a way of living and being that can transform us from the inside out. And that's what readers of this book will discover too.

Download or read book Something Beyond Nothing written by Brian Niece and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-07-13 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In life there are a few major questions. Among them are, "What do we gain?" "What's new?" and "What's the point?" This book creatively uses the Book of Ecclesiastes--where these questions often pop up--to investigate how we question, what we question, and why we question. Along the way you will encounter some of history's great questioners: Socrates, Soren Kierkegaard, Virginia Woolf, Friedrich Nietzsche, G. K. Chesterton, and others, though they may appear in unexpected ways. Something Beyond Nothing? is an experiment in finding and making meaning that focuses on the unpredictable journey of living with questions. Taking the awkwardness of Ecclesiastes as a cue, Brian Niece's odd book is a mix of storytelling, theological analysis, poetic meditation, philosophical investigation, drama, and biblical interpretation. Herein is nonfiction and fiction--with no clear line between the two--suggesting that our modes of meaning may be as significant as the meaning they lead us to. What's more, if there is something beyond nothing, it may not be quite like what we think we know. And the God we don't yet know may surprise us.
