Book The Assimilation of Nitrogen by Rice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Assimilation of Nitrogen by Rice Classic Reprint written by Walter Pearson Kelley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Assimilation of Nitrogen by Rice In the process of nitrification ammonia represents one stage in the oxidation of organic nitrogen, and if conditions are not favorable for complete oxidation, the process may end at this point. In arable soils it is not infrequent to find rather large quantities Of ammonia. Fraps,1 for instance, found that the ammonia content Of some Texas soils exceeded the nitrates, and that the application of certain Organic nitrogenous fertilizers resulted in the accumulation in the soil of greater quantities Of ammonia than of nitrates. This author refers to active nitrogen as including both nitrates and ammonia, and points Out that in considering the available nitrogen Of soils, greater atten tion should be given to ammonia. Book A Contribution to the Investigation of the Assimilation of Free Atmospheric Nitrogen by White and Black Mustard Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Contribution to the Investigation of the Assimilation of Free Atmospheric Nitrogen by White and Black Mustard Classic Reprint written by J. P. Lotsy and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Contribution to the Investigation of the Assimilation of Free Atmospheric Nitrogen by White and Black Mustard Now let us see what different questions are answered by these methods strictly taken. The first method simply shows whether the plant is able to take all the nitrogen it needs from the atmosphere. The second method gives no results whatever in case the crop has no more nitrogen than was contained in the seed and soil; but in case there is an increase. Book Nitrogen Acquisition and Assimilation in Higher Plants

Download or read book Nitrogen Acquisition and Assimilation in Higher Plants written by Sara Amancio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-02-15 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth. During the green revolution nitrogenfertilisation was responsible for spectacular yield increases. At present yield is balanced with commitments towards the environment and sustainable agriculture. For agro-biotechnology comprehensive knowledge of plant functioning is needed. Yield improvement and accumulation of essential nitrogen compounds is relying on selection and gene technologies. Research on the uptake, acquisition and assimilation of nitrogen, as well as the synthesis and storage of reserve and defence N-compounds, therefore, is essential. The third volume in the Plant Ecophysiology series integrates functional and molecular physiology with ecophysiological and sustainable agricultural approaches to get a better understanding of the regulation and the impact of environmental and stress signals on nitrogen acquisition and assimilation. The book is of interest for advanced students and junior researchers and supplies comprehensive information for scientists working in the field of nitrogen metabolism and readers interested in sustainable development.

Book Photosynthetic Nitrogen Assimilation and Associated Carbon and Respiratory Metabolism

Download or read book Photosynthetic Nitrogen Assimilation and Associated Carbon and Respiratory Metabolism written by C.H. Foyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-12-31 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the very latest developments in our understanding of how plants use light energy and fixed carbon to assimilate nitrate and ammonium into the organic compounds required for growth. From the partitioning of organic nitrogen within the photosynthetic apparatus, through the primary processes of reduction of nitrate and nitrite and the assimilation of ammonium and its cycling in photorespiration, the complex interactions inherent in the crosstalk between carbon and nitrogen assimilation are considered and exciting new developments such as nitric oxide production evaluated. Attention is paid throughout to the close coordination of photosynthetic and respiratory processes in nitrogen assimilation. Emerging concepts of the interdependence of chloroplasts and mitochondria are described, and essential communication, transport and signalling processes are highlighted.

This book covers all aspects of the transfer of nitrogen from the soil and air to a final resting place in the seed protein of a crop plant. It describes the physiological and molecular mechanisms of ammonium and nitrate transport and assimilation, including symbiotic nitrogen fixation by the Rhizobiacea. Amino acid metabolism and nitrogen traffic during plant growth and development and details of protein biosynthesis in the seeds are also extensively covered. Finally, the effects of the application of nitrogen fertilisers on plant growth, crop yield and the environment are discussed. Written by international experts in their field, Plant Nitrogen is essential reading for all plant biochemists, biotechnologists, molecular biologists and physiologists as well as plant breeders, agricultural engineers, agronomists and phytochemists.
