This guide--part journal, part workbook, part keepsake--takes a woman on a remarkable journey to remember and honor her past and to consciously choose who she desires to be in the next phase of her life. Fifty represents a potent time in a women's life, one rarely talked about--the Queen. After the Maiden/Mother comes the Queen. She reclaims her sovereignty, cares less about what others think, and has the potential to give her most authentic and deepest contribution yet. Her beauty is sourced by her radiance. But she must activate her Queen. This book is an activation. The Art of Turning 50 is a woman's guide to initiate herself, with the support of her sister tribe, so that the her life radiates the truth of who she is. This beautifully designed book guides a woman through expressing herself, excavating and reviewing her life, course correcting, and creating a new future. The end result is the unique creation of a woman's rite of passage that marks this threshold crossing. With 26 gorgeous photos, this book makes a special gift for yourself or a loved one who will be or who has already turned 50.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let's face it. Aging in our culture is incredibly challenging, which is why most of us have ignored it or pretended it was not going to happen to us. Although both men and women are affected, women bear the biggest brunt of our culture's disempowered and disrespectful view of aging. Older men are seen as distinguished while women do not have the same currency as they age. Women often find themselves on a treadmill, trying to outrun biology so they can halt their perceived loss of power. This cultural paradigm also affects younger women who live under the tyranny of objectification--believing that their worth and value lie only in their youth and their looks. It's a cultural disease. We are stuck in a society that worships eternal youth. Beauty and youth are wonderful, but they are only a part of life, and when that part of life wanes, we must transition to something deeper and more meaningful or wither. As women, we have become co-conspirators in our own oppression (and depression) by accepting these views, by perpetuating them through our disempowered conversations with each other, by contorting ourselves to be who we are not, and by judging ourselves in the mirror. This is a subtle yet deeply rooted way to keep us from knowing and exercising our power. It keeps us small and quiet when, really, we are a force. Let's reject the cultural default. Our birthright is far better. Fifty is the threshold crossing into our most radiant and authentic self. It's the era of our inner Queen. Let's initiate ourselves so that we can step powerfully into our 50s. That's why I created The Art of Turning 50. I'm on a mission to give us all permission to reject the cultural default and to live freely and authentic. Everyone benefits (like your children, your friends, our co-workers, our exes, the animal kingdom, even the world) when we stop living in the past and embrace our inner Queen--when we own our wisdom, and when we accept and love ourselves as we are. Then any improvements or fixes or enhancements can come from our core of self love and self acceptance. Let's create a world where we respect our own aging as the emergence of our authentic selves, where young women and little girls are related to their worth from the inside out and look forward to the widsom, radiance, and privileges of aging. Let us become that woman. For ourselves. For others. For the planet. The Art of Turning 50 is a beautifully designed guidebook -- part workbook, part journal -- that guides you through expressing yourself, processing your life path up to now, and creating a new future. The end result is to create your own Rite of Passage event and initiate yourself into your new vision. Use the guide at your own pace--you can work through the guide as fast or as slowly as you want, or as many times as you'd like. It will provide you with a rich and profound experience as you (or someone you love) crosses the threshold into her 50s. --By Kenlyn Kolleen

Book Assume Nothing

Download or read book Assume Nothing written by Tanya Selvaratnam and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Selvaratnam very bravely and compellingly uses her personal experience to shine a light on the global crisis of violence against women. An important book for the women’s rights movement, Assume Nothing demonstrates that violence against women exists across race, class, economic status and education levels, and may be perpetrated by those we think of as allies! It dispels the myth that there are certain types of victims and perpetrators. It will help a lot of people, and particularly those who hesitate to identify as a victim/survivor for fear of losing their grounding both publicly and privately.”—Yasmeen Hassan, Global Executive Director, Equality Now “This courageous and terrifying book charts the author’s descent into an abusive relationship and also her emergence from it in taut, seductive prose. Selvaratnam explains how—even as an educated, sophisticated, liberal feminist—she was enthralled by her lover’s fame and tolerated escalating personal violence. Her narrative is vivid and bracingly frank, a tour-de-force of self-revelation and, ultimately, of redemption.”—Andrew Solomon, National Book Award-winning author of Far from the Tree and The Noonday Demon Award-winning filmmaker Tanya Selvaratnam bravely recounts the intimate abuse she suffered from former New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, using her story as a prism to examine the domestic violence crisis plaguing America. When Tanya Selvaratnam met then New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman at the Democratic National Convention in July 2016, they seemed like the perfect match. Both were Harvard alumni; both studied Chinese; both were interested in spirituality and meditation, both were well-connected rising stars in their professions—Selvaratnam in entertainment and the art world; Schneiderman in law and politics. Behind closed doors, however, Tanya’s life was anything but ideal. Schneiderman became controlling, mean, and manipulative. He drank heavily and used sedatives. Sex turned violent, and he called Tanya—who was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in Southern California—his “brown slave.” He isolated and manipulated her, even threatening to kill her if she tried to leave. Twenty-five percent of women in America are victims of domestic abuse. Tanya never thought she would be a part of this statistic. Growing up, she witnessed her father physically and emotionally abuse her mother. Tanya knew the patterns and signs of domestic violence, and did not see herself as remotely vulnerable. Yet what seemed impossible was suddenly a terrifying reality: she was trapped in a violent relationship with one of the most powerful men in New York. Sensitive and nuanced, written with the gripping power of a dark psychological thriller, Assume Nothing details how Tanya’s relationship devolved into abuse, how she found the strength to leave—risking her career, reputation, and life—and how she reclaimed her freedom and her voice. In sharing her story, Tanya analyzes the insidious way women from all walks of life learn to accept abuse, and redefines what it means to be a victim of intimate violence.

Book excerpt: Although we’ve been conditioned to think “middle-aged” is practically a four-letter word, the realities of women in midlife today are far different than what our mothers experienced. Women in their forties, fifties, and even sixties are feeling younger and living more vibrant lives. But influenced by our youth-obsessed culture, we fear that when we hit midlife, we stop being relevant and no longer have options—that it’s simply too late for us. Contradicting long-ingrained beliefs, Robi Ludwig draws on myth-busting data from scientific research and her experience as a therapist to show that midlife is not the beginning of your decline—it is actually a time to pursue your dreams. During midlife, you experience a second adolescence: a time to question authority, take risks, and reinvent yourself. In Your Best Age Is Now, Ludwig offers specific advice on how to change your perception of this life phase and make the best of it in every area of your life: • SELF-IMAGE: Identify the false thinking, stereo-types, and misconceptions that are holding you back. • RELATIONSHIPS: Take charge of your love life—whether married, partnered, or reentering the dating world. • WORK: Stay relevant in the workplace or start a new, exciting career. • HEALTH AND WELLNESS: Let go of stress, cultivate resilience, and create a more balanced life. • SPIRITUALITY: Find meaning and purpose while leading a life of gratitude. Your Best Age Is Now provides the guidance you need to reject the status quo, become more “you” than ever before, and find the kind of happiness you never thought possible. Live Agelessly “A must-read for any woman who fears her prime is in her past. Ludwig’s practical and perspective-changing advice will help you embrace midlife’s unique opportunities and navigate challenges with ease, so you can live your fullest life yet.”—Holly Phillips, M.D., general internist, author of The Exhaustion Breakthrough, and CBS News medical contributor “Every woman needs to read this book. Robi Ludwig will convince you that a youthful mindset, plus new adventures and opportunities and even new or deeper love, are all highly possible, no matter what the number on your birth certificate is.”—Bonnie Fuller, president and editor-in-chief of HollywoodLife.com “Robi Ludwig shows us how to feel ageless, beautiful, and relevant. A superb book that will shift and transform your beliefs about midlife and aging.” —Laura Geller, founder of Laura Geller Beauty and board member of the Cosmetic Executive Women Foundation “In this revolutionary and riveting book, Robi Ludwig brilliantly helps women break through the disabling myths we’ve been fed about midlife. She redefines it, using science and inspiring stories from her practice, empowering us to enjoy this truly fantastic time of life.”—Lisa Bloom, civil rights attorney, legal analyst for NBC News and Avvo.com, and New York Times bestselling author of Think “Robi Ludwig nails it! She makes it clear that midlife is the time for wise, effective women to advance the whole damn species! Robi makes us roar!”—Dr. Wendy Walsh, Emmy-nominated former cohost of The Doctors and CNN commentator

Although her initial imaginings were not what transpired, she gained unexpected gifts from the quest.
