Book The Armenians in America Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Armenians in America Classic Reprint written by M. Vartan Malcom and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Armenians in America It was the lack of a handy book on the subject of the Armenians in America which first induced me to undertake the preparation of this volume. My original intention contemplated a larger edition, containing more extended historical and statistical records. But the sudden cessation of the war and the consequent rise of great national and economic questions, particularly those touching the Armenian people, have made it advisable not to wait any longer. The primary object of this book, as indicated by its title, is to present a sketch of the history, life and activities of the Armenians in the United States. Circumstances, however, have incidentally added a greater importance to it. Those who are competent to judge and speak of the Armenians have described them as "The Anglo-Saxons of the East." They are unanimous in their belief that these people are not only one of the superior races in Southeastern Europe and Asia Minor, but by far the most fit and capable of self-government. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Armenians in Massachusetts The history of the Armenians in Massachusetts is necessarily a part of American history since it is one of the tributary streams of the American past. The Armenians are among the most recent of the newcomers to America. They too have been subjected to the melting pot which is the strongest factor in effecting the unification of the American culture. I hope the future generations of Armenians will main tain the traditional industry and high ideals of the Armenian race. The merging of the old and the new is the tried method of continuing progress. Know ing this, I have resolved to cling fast to the truth, to say nothing but the truth, and to say a good deal of the truth that I know in relation to my subject, unmindful of its consequences. The Turkish proverb says He that will speak truth shall have a hole in his head. It is risky sometimes to speak truth. But what do I risk except myself and what am I in comparison with the sacred cause for which I come forth to speak Q The sa cred cause of my martyred nation demands of me to speak out, and to speak the truth for the best interests and the only hope of my people lie in the revelation of the truth. Therefore I must speak the truth at all hazards. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Armenians of Worcester

Download or read book Armenians of Worcester written by Pamela Apkarian-Russell and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of the twentieth century, millions of immigrants came to the United States in search of a better life and greater opportunities for their families. However, the Armenians who came to Worcester between 1894 and 1930 were escaping a devastating genocide that tore their country apart. What they found and how they became an integral part of Worcester culture and history is the story found in Armenians of Worcester. Worcester was a mecca for many Armenians, who had escaped with little more than their lives. There were mills that provided work, and there was a growing number of Armenians who were struggling to make sense of what had happened in their homeland. The first Armenian Apostolic church and the first Armenian Protestant church in America were both in this city, and both helped to build new foundations for a community that was to enrich the city and slowly resurrect the art, theater, music, and food that celebrates the Armenian culture. The Armenian picnics that were an integrating influence in the early years continue even today as a gathering of clans and all who join in on these days of celebration.

This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Missionaries and the Armenian Protestant Community: An Appeal Against the Policy of the American Missionaries Among the Armenian Christians Read at a Special Meeting held in the City of New York, United States of America, in 1867. IN presenting to this honoured assembly a condensed account of the existing differences between your Missionaries and the Armenian Protestant Churches, I fear that some of my hearers will not hesitate to think that we - the Armenian Protestants - after having received incalculable blessings from the American Christians through their missionaries, instead of expressing gratitude are demonstrating an nu christian Spirit and evincing ingratitude and dissatisfaction. I beg, therefore, to say that such feelings do not exist either in the hearts of my brethren or myself and I can assure this assembly that we have always considered the Christians of this country, as well as their missionaries, our most respected benefactors. Feeling that their desire is to spread the light of the truth in dark countries in a way they think best, we-as far as it concerns us - think it our bounden duty to point out to them their mistakes in policy and Operation, that the light may be Spread more and more, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. We feel that we are in a condition to do this because of our better acquaintance with the peculiarities of the people, and our knowledge of the manner in which the policy of the missionaries is affecting them. You have, Rev. Gentlemen, before you a person to deal with who will be very glad to receive your advice; if he is mistaken in one or in all points, nothing will give him more delight and pleasure than to be corrected; and, when he returns to his country, it will give him great satisfaction to communicate to his brethren the Opinion formed by this assembly, after a careful investigation of the points under question. I firmly believe that the result of this would be a reconciliation of all parties. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
