Book Architects Engineers Structures

Download or read book Architects Engineers Structures written by Ivan Margolius and published by Academy Press. This book was released on 2002-05-22 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book applauds the union of architecture and engineering both today and throughout the history of building and construction. The relationship between the two fields is multifaceted. Some architects may have had an engineering background, and some engineers have experience of architecture. Some unacknowledged engineers have stood modestly behind great architects, and a number of architects have been encouraged and supported by their engineer-collaborators in designing structures that appear to defy gravity. Architects + Engineers = Structures focuses on the ideal: on a cohesive building design team where the members contribute equally, resulting in unique and exceptional designs. These are architects and engineers who entice beauty into buildings not just with lines on paper and calculations but with intuition, innovation and feeling for the needs of people, materials, strength, proportion, lightness and elegance. Structures featured include: * dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence * Church of the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona * Eiffel Tower, Paris * Sydney Opera House, Sydney * Marina City, Chicago * Olympic Swimming Pool Arena, Tokyo * London Eye, London * many other international examples, both celebrated and less well-known "This subject is very important, and I hope the book will attract the attention of many architects and engineers." Professor Mamoru Kawaguchi Also by Ivan Margolius: Automobiles by Architects, Wiley-Academy, ISBN 047160786X "How rare it is to put down a book with the sense of pleasure satisfied, the mind excited by ideas and information, nostalgia stimulated, the eye amused by illustrations." Brian Sewell, The Spectator "Superbly entertaining book." Edwin Heathcote, The Architects' Journal "This is an enjoyable read." Building Design "Excellent book." FX Magazine "Purchasers are likely to have something unique on their bookshelves." The Automobile "A pleasant surprise is the density and clarity of the text, usefully accompanied by a wealth and diversity of iconography." L'Architecture d'aujourd'hui

Book Structure As Architecture

Download or read book Structure As Architecture written by Andrew Charleson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-08-11 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structure As Architecture provides readers with an accessible insight into the relationship between structure and architecture, focusing on the design principles that relate to both fields. Over one hundred case studies of contemporary buildings from countries across the globe including the UK, the US, France, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong and Australia are interspersed throughout the book. The author has visited and photographed each of these examples and analyzed them to show how structure plays a significant architectural role, as well as bearing loads. This is a highly illustrated sourcebook, providing a new insight into the role of structure, and discussing the point where the technical and the aesthetic meet to create the discipline of ‘architecture’.

Book Sketching for Engineers and Architects

Download or read book Sketching for Engineers and Architects written by Ron Slade and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-20 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using real working drawings from a 50 year career, Ron Slade shows how drawing remains at the heart of the design process in the everyday working life of engineers and architects. The book explains simple techniques that can be learnt and used to enhance any professional’s natural ability. Using over 180 categorised examples it demonstrates that drawing remains the fastest, clearest and most effective means of design communication. Unlike many other books on drawing in the construction industry, this book is ‘engineer led’ and science oriented but effectively shows that there is a close affinity between the working methods of architects and engineers.

This book was released on 1965 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architects and engineers exert the greatest single influence on building design and construction. Thousands of new buildings are being built each year in which the life saving potential could have been increased if attention had been focused on the problem during the initial design phase. Special knowledge is required to accomplish this - knowledge of the nature of radioactive fallout and how to design structures to provide shielding against it.

Book Space Architecture Education for Engineers and Architects

Download or read book Space Architecture Education for Engineers and Architects written by Sandra Häuplik-Meusburger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-30 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers two key educational tools for future generations of professionals with a space architecture background in the 21st century: (1) introducing the discipline of space architecture into the space system engineering curricula; and (2) developing space architecture as a distinct, complete training curriculum. Professionals educated this way will help shift focus from solely engineering-driven transportation systems and “sortie” missions towards permanent off-world human presence. The architectural training teaches young professionals to operate at all scales from the “overall picture” down to the smallest details, to provide directive intention–not just analysis–to design opportunities, to address the relationship between human behavior and the built environment, and to interact with many diverse fields and disciplines throughout the project lifecycle. This book will benefit individuals and organizations responsible for planning transportation and habitat systems in space, while also providing detailed information on work and design processes for architects and engineers.

Book The Architect s Engineer

Download or read book The Architect s Engineer written by Sir Nigel Thompson and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2022-05-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sir Nigel Thompson walked to school around the bomb craters of the London Blitz--it made him want to build things, rather than knock them down. After studying structural engineering in Africa, he worked on hospitals and theaters in London, and later headed the team that designed University of Qatar. He went on to design Embankment Place, a massive office complex built over London's Charing Cross railway station. Turning from building to rebuilding, he explored construction opportunities for British firms during the Gulf War, in Kuwait's still-burning oil fields. Following the 1999 bombing of Serbia and Kosovo, he led a reconstruction task force in Kosovo at the request of UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, for which he was knighted. Thompson's memoir details his long career in architectural design and construction, and in restorative development.
