Book Introduction to Development Psychology

Download or read book Introduction to Development Psychology written by Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh and published by K.K. Publictions. This book was released on 2021-09-11 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developmental psychology includes issues such as the extent to which development occurs through the gradual accumulation of knowledge versus stage-like development, or the extent to which children are born with innate mental structures, versus learning through experience. Many researchers are interested in the interaction between personal characteristics, the individual’s behaviour, and environmental factors including social context, and their impact on development; others take a more narrowly focused approach. Developmental psychology informs several applied fields, including educational psychology, child psychopathology, and forensic developmental psychology. Developmental psychology complements several other basic research fields in psychology including social psychology, cognitive psychology, ecological psychology, and comparative psychology. Developmental psychology as a discipline did not exist until after the industrial revolution when the need for an educated workforce led to the social construction of childhood as a distinct stage in a person’s life. The notion of childhood originates in the western world and this is why the early research derives from this location. Initially, developmental psychologists were interested in studying the mind of the child so that education and learning could be more effective. A significant issue in developmental psychology is the relationship between innateness and environmental influence in regard to any particular aspect of development. The book will be of use to the students, researchers and general readers of this subject.

Book Human Factors in the Design of Systems

Download or read book Human Factors in the Design of Systems written by H. W. Sinaiko and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The process of designing systems generally consists of three steps: (a) developing the system concept, (b) assigning system subtasks to component elements, and (c) deciding how to link the components together. Since each of these steps is influenced by certain human characteristics, information about man will be helpful to the design engineer. The following ten general characteristics of man as a system component, together with their design implications, should be considered by the system designer: physical dimensions, capability for data sensing, capability for data processing, capability for motor activity, capability for learning, physical and psychological needs, sensitivities to social environment, sensitivities to physical environment, coordinated action, and differences among individuals. Effective use of humans in highly automatic systems can be made if these characteristics are considered. The methodology of doing evaluations of man-machine systems is treated in two areas: general principles and cautions for doing human engineering tests, and the uses of statistics and experimental design. An extensive bibliography, representing the major areas of human engineering, is included. Finally, in an appendix, there is a checklist of human factors for the design engineers."--Abstract
