Book The Antics of Mima Linda and Pipo Lindo

Download or read book The Antics of Mima Linda and Pipo Lindo written by Alejandro Roque Glez and published by Alejandro's Libros. This book was released on 2023-11-08 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Beagles Mima Linda and Pipo Lindo seem as two cute and quiet birds, but as it is said, where there is smoke you can find fire as well; so these little ones. They appear to be very tranquil, especially in a picture like the one you are watching, but their antics do not wait at all, and that's part of this refreshing story from real life. Not only about them but also their poor owner. Mima once was very sick and taken as dead, even some vets wanted to inflict euthanasia on her, and thus give her the farewell from this world of the anxious; but we opposed and in the meantime, we kept talking to her and took care till...the miracle happened! One day she decided to return back to life, and now, to the shame of those who no longer wanted her among us, she is very much alive, happy, and running around. Of course, she became spoiled during the whole process, which was not liked by her leader and teacher Pipo Lindo, who nevertheless ensures that he remains the headmaster and guide; a hunter with an innate ability to bark so much that could rupture the eardrum to the very Tecumseh. We better leave it here and then you can read this interesting story outside from any fiction, since it all happened just as it is narrated by the father of these sane little angels. P/D: This is part of the book entitled: "Tour and Tales."

Book excerpt: Here we bring you pleasant narratives described with stories sandwiched in between and about visits to places of interest, whether tourist or educational. They include pictures of the environment within the narrative next to sympathetic and likeable occurrences. In between 'cabbage and cabbage' the author added stories where he writes something that has happened to him and his canine friends, or anyone else, including the good Don Quixote Cervantes, as in this case where even a poem was dedicated to this friend from another century. We hope you enjoy these refreshing real stories, even if at times the fiction seems to seize them. Book Affective Health and Masculinities in South Africa

Download or read book Affective Health and Masculinities in South Africa written by Hans Reihling and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Affective Health and Masculinities in South Africa explores how different masculinities modulate substance use, interpersonal violence, suicidality, and AIDS as well as recovery cross-culturally. With a focus on three male protagonists living in very distinct urban areas of Cape Town, this comparative ethnography shows that men's struggles to become invulnerable increase vulnerability. Through an analysis of masculinities as social assemblages, the study shows how affective health problems are tied to modern individualism rather than African 'tradition' that has become a clichâe in Eurocentric gender studies. Affective health is conceptualized as a balancing act between autonomy and connectivity that after colonialism and apartheid has become compromised through the imperative of self-reliance. This book provides a rare perspective on young men's vulnerability in everyday life that may affect the reader and spark discussion about how masculinities in relationships shape physical and psychological health. Moreover, it shows how men change in the face of distress in ways that may look different than global health and gender transformative approaches envision. Thick descriptions of actual events over the life course make the study accessible to both graduate and undergraduate students in the social sciences. Contributing to current debates on mental health and masculinity, the volume will be of interest to scholars from a number of disciplines including anthropology, gender studies, African studies, psychology and global health"--

Book excerpt: Clinical psychologist and author of The Defining Decade, Meg Jay takes us into the world of the supernormal: those who soar to unexpected heights after childhood adversity. Whether it is the loss of a parent to death or divorce; bullying; alcoholism or drug abuse in the home; mental illness in a parent or a sibling; neglect; emotional, physical or sexual abuse; having a parent in jail; or growing up alongside domestic violence, nearly 75% of us experience adversity by the age of 20. But these experiences are often kept secret, as are our courageous battles to overcome them. Drawing on nearly two decades of work with clients and students, Jay tells the tale of ordinary people made extraordinary by these all-too-common experiences, everyday superheroes who have made a life out of dodging bullets and leaping over obstacles, even as they hide in plain sight as doctors, artists, entrepreneurs, lawyers, parents, activists, teachers, students and readers. She gives a voice to the supernormals among us as they reveal not only "How do they do it?" but also "How does it feel?" These powerful stories, and those of public figures from Andre Agassi to Jay Z, will show supernormals they are not alone but are, in fact, in good company. Marvelously researched and compassionately written, this exceptional book narrates the continuing saga that is resilience as it challenges us to consider whether -- and how -- the good wins out in the end.

Book excerpt: In 1828, at only sixteen years of age, Edward Lear (British, 1812-1888) embarked on an ambitious project: to draw all the known parrot species. The result, Illustrations of the family of Psittacidae, or parrots (published in twelve parts, 1830-1832) contained forty-two elegant portraits. Lear had to abandon the project when he could no longer financially support its completion, but the folio was the first British publication on a single family of birds and reached 110 subscribers. Since only 175 copies of the original monograph were published, it is exceedingly rare today. The illustrations in this book represent the entirety of Lear's Parrots and were reproduced from a pristine, original edition in the collection of the American Museum of Natural History.
