Book University of California San Diego Anatomy Laboratory Manual Revision Revitalization

Download or read book University of California San Diego Anatomy Laboratory Manual Revision Revitalization written by Megan Barnett and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anatomy has been a cornerstone of medical education for centuries. Through learning gross anatomy in the laboratory, students gain a first-hand impression of the structure of the human body and how it relates to the pathology of human disease and clinical correlation that will become more evident within their clinical clerkships. Cadaveric dissections remain the foundation of how students are exposed to anatomy, alongside traditional anatomic lectures. The UCSD Anatomy Laboratory has continued that tradition as a component of the first year medical school curriculum. A custom anatomy laboratory manual has been created uniquely for the UCSD medical curriculum. It is composed of multiple parts, dedicated to each laboratory session. Each manual had comprised of dissection instructions intertwined with pathologic states and clinical correlates. The purpose of this project was proposed to revise, reorganize and revitalize the laboratory manual into one that separates the step-by-step dissection and identification of key structures from the pathophysiology and clinical correlates. In this way, we continue to provide the valuable information already provided in the lab manuals and create a more time efficient dissection guide for the students.

Book Lab Manual to accompany McKinley s Anatomy Physiology Main Version

Download or read book Lab Manual to accompany McKinley s Anatomy Physiology Main Version written by Michael McKinley, Dr. and published by McGraw-Hill Education. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Human anatomy and physiology is a complex yet fascinating subject, and is perhaps one of the most personal subjects a student will encounter during his or her education. It is also a subject that can create concern for students because of the sheer volume of material, and the misconception that "it is all about memorization." The study of human anatomy and physiology really comes to life in the anatomy and physiology laboratory, where students get hands-on experience with human cadavers and bones, classroom models, preserved and fresh animal organs, histology slides of human tissues, and explore the process of scientific discovery through physiology experimentation. Yet, most students are at a loss regarding how to approach the anatomy and physiology laboratory. For example, students are often given numerous lists of structures to identify, histology slides to view, and "wet labs" to conduct, but are given comparatively little direction regarding how to recognize structures, or how to relate what they encounter in the laboratory to the material presented in the lecture. In addition, most laboratory manuals on the market contain little more than material repeated from anatomy and physiology textbooks, which provides no real benefit to a student. This laboratory manual takes a very focused approach to the laboratory experience, and provides students with tools to make the subject matter more relevant to their own bodies and to the world around them. Rather than providing a recap of material from classroom lectures and the main textbook for the course, this laboratory manual is much more of an interactive workbook for students: a "how-to" guide to learning human anatomy and physiology through touch, dissection, observation, experimentation, and critical thinking exercises. Students are guided to formulate a hypothesis about each experiment before beginning physiology exercises. Diagrams direct students in how to perform experiments, and don't just show the end results. The text is written in a friendly, conversational tone to put students at ease as they discover, organize, and understand the material presented in each chapter"--

Book excerpt: The field of anatomy is dynamic and fertile. The rapid advances in technology in the past few years have produced exciting opportunities in the teaching of gross anatomy such as 3D printing, virtual reality, augmented reality, digital anatomy models, portable ultrasound, and more. Pedagogical innovations such as gamification and the flipped classroom, among others, have also been developed and implemented. As a result, preparing anatomy teachers in the use of these new teaching tools and methods is very timely. The main aim of the second edition of Teaching Anatomy – A Practical Guide is to offer gross anatomy teachers the most up-to-date advice and guidance for anatomy teaching, utilizing pedagogical and technological innovations at the forefront of anatomy education in the five years since the publication of the first edition. This edition is structured according to the teaching and learning situations that gross anatomy teachers will find themselves in: large group setting, small group setting, gross anatomy laboratory, writing examination questions, designing anatomy curriculum, using anatomy teaching tools, or building up their scholarship of teaching and learning. Fully revised and updated, including fifteen new chapters discussing the latest advances, this second edition is an excellent resource for all instructors in gross anatomy.
