Book The Agricultural and Mineral Resources of Muskingum County Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Agricultural and Mineral Resources of Muskingum County Classic Reprint written by Ohio Board of Trade Zanesvill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Agricultural and Mineral Resources of Muskingum County Prelinunary Sketch. - The act of the General Assembly of Ohio, creating the county of Muskingum, bears date March 1, 1804, one year and three months after the formation of the first Constitution of the State. The county was carved out of territory which, prior to the above date, was a part of the Counties of Fairfield and Wash ington. Muskingum included in its original limits What is now Coshocton, and portions of Holmes, Tuscarawas, Guernsey, Perry and Morgan Counties. Muskingum is an Indian word, and its meaning is somewhat in doubt. One legend has it that the word means an Elk's Eye, or the glare of an Elk's Eye, while another defines the word a town on the river side. The County is named after the river which passes through it. Muskingum, it will be seen, is one of the oldest Counties in Ohio almost as old as the State it self, but its history, further than this preliminary sketch, is foreign to the present purpose. Slack and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-06 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Resources of the Big Frog Wilderness Study Area and Additions, Polk County, Tennessee and Fannin County, Georgia No metallic mineral resources are known within the proposed Big Frog Wilderness. Nonmetallic resources, including slate and phyllite, stone, and sand and gravel are pres ent locally but are not currently of value because similar resources exist closer to markets outside the study area; these deposits, therefore, would have only marginal use in the region. A possibility also exists for the presence of natural gas at great depths. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Wealth of Missouri: Two Lectures Delivered in the Hall of Representatives, at Jefferson City, Mo., February 17th and 18th, 1870, in Accordance With House Resolutions; I. Mines and Mining Education, II. Coal and Iron In earlier times we find the use of silver most prevalent. It was currency, or money. For the purchase of Hebron, Abraham weighed the price in silver, current money with the merchants. Of gold and silver large quantities were used for ornaments of the person, and the adornment of temples also for ransoms, tributes, and taxes. Sums or weights of silver and gold are noted which indicate that the mining industry of the Egyptian, Assyrian, Persian, Jewish, Grecian, and Roman empires was cc-extensive with their greatness. The city of Damascus paid a tribute of talents of silver to Babylon (a talent is nearly), and according to Pliny, Cyrus obtained 7 7 from the con quest of Asia. From Herodotus we learn that the yearly tribute paid to the Persians was lbs in silver. During 50 years Carthage paid as tribute to Rome lbs, Troy, of silver. Calig ula ornamented the armor and weapons for his grand circus or coliseum with lbs of silver. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book New Philadelphia in Vintage Postcards

Download or read book New Philadelphia in Vintage Postcards written by Erin L. VanFossen and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1772, Native Americans granted land in the Tuscarawas Valley to Moravian missionary David Zeisberger, and he established the Christian community of Schoenbrunn Village, which remained until 1777 when members were forced to relocate. Then in late 1804, John Knisely, his family, and other pioneers braved the western frontier and settled on the Tuscarawas River near the Schoenbrunn Village site. On October 23, 1804, John Knisely founded the town of New Philadelphia. He was a great philanthropist, donating land to the city for future public buildings, guaranteeing its selection as the Tuscarawas County Seat. In Schoenbrunn Village, which has been partially excavated and rebuilt as a historic site in New Philadelphia, missionaries lived in harmony with Native Americans, and so it seems fitting that New Philadelphia, through the influence of John Knisely's generosity, has maintained its image as the new "city of brotherly love." Two hundred years later, the city strives to keep Knisely's dream alive with its generous allocation of resources and commitment to those in need.
