Download or read book Diseases of Poultry written by Aly M. Fadly and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-13 with total page 1410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its Twelfth Edition, Diseases of Poultry continues its tradition of excellence as the definitive reference of poultry disease. Following the same user-friendly format, the book has been thoroughly updated to reflect the most current knowledge of avian pathology, including new coverage of genetic resistance to disease. Coverage is given to both common and uncommon diseases, and chapters are organized by disease type, including viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic diseases as well as others, such as nutritional, developmental, metabolic, noninfectious diseases and toxins. Each disease section provides detailed coverage of history, etiology, pathobiology, diagnosis, and intervention strategies, as well as the economic and public health significance of each disease. With a host of international authors, Diseases of Poultry is a must-have resource for all veterinary pathologists, practitioners, agricultural managers and industry leaders involved in poultry health and production.

Download or read book Chicken Egg Yolk Antibodies Production and Application written by Rüdiger Schade and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyclonal antibodies, widely used in research and diagnostics, are conventionally isolated from the blood of immunised mammals. The fact that antibodies can also be detected in the yolk of eggs laid by immunised hens, led to the development of the yolk antibody technology as an alternative method less stressful to animals. Hens can be kept under nearly natural conditions and antibodies be isolated from the eggs. Further, the IgY-technology has the advantage that avian antibodies can be produced against several antigens which do not induce a immune response in mammals. Protocols on how to keep and immunise hens and on the extraction, isolation and use of antibodies from yolk are described in detail in this manual. For their work on yolk antibodies the authors received the FISEA (International Foundation for the Substitution of Animal Experimentation, Luxembourg) prize in 1997.

Download or read book Diseases of Poultry written by J.R. Glisson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 2990 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diseases of Poultry is the most comprehensive reference for all aspects of poultry health and diseases, including pathogenesis, diagnostics, epidemiology, and control methods. Published in partnership with the American Association of Avian Pathologists, the Thirteenth Edition remains the international definitive reference, adding newer diagnostic methods and a new chapter on the emerging importance of zoonotic infections for poultry pathogens. Other updates include new high-quality photographs, additional discussion of conceptual operational biosecurity and disease control in organic production systems, and a greater emphasis throughout on the differences in disease incidence and treatments for the United States and other areas around the globe. Organized logically by disease type, the book offers detailed coverage of the history, etiology, pathobiology, diagnosis, and intervention strategies, as well as the economic and public health significance, for an exhaustive list of common and uncommon diseases. Diseases of Poultry, 13th Edition is an essential purchase for poultry veterinarians, veterinary diagnosticians, poultry scientists, students specializing in poultry health, and government officials who deal with poultry health in regulatory climate.

Book excerpt: Biotechnology is a highly multidisciplinary subject and has got its foundation in many fields including biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry and chemical and processing engineering. Application of biotechnology in medicine and agriculture has been a recent phenomenon. Modern biotechnological processes now encompass a wide range of new products including antibiotics, recombinant and nucleic acid vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant therapeutic products like recombinant insulin, growth hormones, prolactin and gene therapy, production of transgenic animals and plants and use of embryo biotechnological methods and stem cells to augment animal production and human therapy, respectively. Animal biotechnology is in its infancy and only during the past ten years, much work has been done in animal biotechnology in few isolated laboratories throughout the world. There is an increasing need to train manpower in animal biotechnology. Even though many colleges are offering courses in Biotechnology for the students, there is no single text book available covering all the aspects of animal biotechnology for the students. This book on Animal Biotechnology has been written to meet out the requirements of both undergraduate and postgraduate students on the subject of biotechnology. There are seventeen chapters in this book covering different aspects of animal biotechnology including enzyme technology, gene therapy, biotechnology in medicine, Intellectual Property Rights and biosafety in biotechnology. Many up-to-date references on most of the topics have been included so that it would be a reference book for postgraduate students studying biotechnology and molecular biology. This would be a useful book for students who are writing competitive examinations for fellowship. With my extensive experience in teaching and research in Animal Biotechnology I have compiled this book to provide students the basic principles of animal biotechnology, current information on different topics of biotechnology, as well as information on Intellectual Property Rights and biosafety guidelines to be adopted in the laboratories.
