Book The Ballad of Billy McFee A Sea Shanty to Read Or Sing

Download or read book The Ballad of Billy McFee A Sea Shanty to Read Or Sing written by Ruby Mosher and published by . This book was released on 2022-08 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the funny and uplifting children's picture book that has all the clams talking - and everyone else singing to the viral tune of the Wellerman sea shanty!!! Billy McFee is a colorful and resourceful young fish who dreams of sailing a ship that he found stuck in the muck at the bottom of the sea. Billy sees potential in the ship while everyone else swims right past. Billy struggles to free the ship while shrugging off negative comments from onlookers (a pair of naysayer clams). When Billy cannot move the ship by himself, he becomes a leader and builds a crew of diverse friends: a friendly shark, a big strong whale, and an intellectual crab. Billy and his friends sing as they work, just as sailors of yore sang to synchronize their efforts. But unlike many old sea shanties, the Ballad of Billy McFee is friendly to all sea creatures and is appropriate for people of all ages. How will YOU tell the Ballad of Billy McFee? The Ballad of Billy McFee is packed to the gills with character development, subplots, puns, and Easter eggs for young and old to find. For example, everyone in the story is on a journey of some kind - whether it be physical or mental, intended or unintended. Some readers will want to get out the magnifying glass and explore the covers of the books which the crab (Emma) reads on her journey of self-improvement. Others will want to follow the antics of the naysayer clams. Singers of the ballad, however, may wish to ignore the chatter of the naysayer clams (just as Billy does) so they can turn the pages to keep time with the rhythm. It's all good! There is no wrong way to read or sing the Ballad of Billy McFee. This book is all about celebrating our differences. Through our diversity, we are stronger together! You can read it - you can sing it - whatever floats YOUR boat!

Book Fifty Years Below Zero A Lifetime of Adventure in the Far North

Download or read book Fifty Years Below Zero A Lifetime of Adventure in the Far North written by Charles D. Brower and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2013-04-26 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On and off for the last half century Charlie Brower has been Uncle Sam’s most northerly citizen. The honor was taken for a spell by his partner an old friend Tom Gordon, who had a house three miles farther north; at another time Charlie Klengenberg camped six miles beyond, towards the Pole. But Klengenberg moved to Coronation Gulf and Gordon to Demarcation Point—both places farther east but also farther south. That left Brower what he had been earlier—America’s most northerly pioneer. Brower is what a loyal American likes to think of as a typical American. He is what you might expect of Manhattan Island born somewhere around Twenty-third Street when that street was far uptown: he is the logical development of a boy who was admitted to Annapolis but who left that road of gold-braided promotion for the paths of high and free adventure on unknown seas and shores. Meet him at the City Club in New York, and you think him what in a sense he was born to be, a typical successful and genial New Yorker; meet him at the Explorers Club of New York, to which he also belongs, and you will have difficulty in localizing him among that far-travelled company. For he talks Africa, and Australia of the Ballarat days, till you think him a Tropic rather than a Polar-man. I write this to introduce a book which I have read in its original and rough draft, but I shall read it again with eagerness when it comes from the press in its finished and, I understand, more compact version. For if Charlie finally imparts a third of what he knows about whaling, pioneering, and about the Arctic, it will be a source-book on frontiering and high adventure; if he writes with a third of his conversational zest and charm, it will be literature. But in any case the tale will be to me the life-story of one of my oldest and dearest friends—and in subscribing myself a friend I speak for most of the explorers, whalers, traders and missionaries who have reached or passed the north tip of Alaska since 1884. I speak, too, I am sure, for many captains and officers of the U.S. Coast Guard, for reconnaissance workers of the U.S. Geological Survey, for teachers whom the U.S. Bureau of Education has been pushing up toward Barrow of comparatively recent years, and for nearly everyone else who for any reason has come within reach of Charlie Brower’s help and his cheer at any time during his fifty-eight years of keeping open house to all comers about three hundred and thirty miles north of the Arctic Circle.

Book Moby Dick Or The Whale

  • Author : H. Melville
  • Publisher : Рипол Классик
  • Release : 2016-01-04
  • ISBN : 1944529004
  • Pages : 662 pages

Download or read book Moby Dick Or The Whale written by H. Melville and published by Рипол Классик. This book was released on 2016-01-04 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Call me Ishmael. So begins the famous opening chapter of Moby-Dick; or, The Whale. Young sailor Ishmael is hired as a crew member of a whaler named Pequod, captained by a man named Ahab. In between lengthy chapters on whale biology and descriptions of the crew and the whaling trade, readers are slowly introduced to a captivating tale. Ahab is out for revenge on the great white whale that stole his leg, leaving him with a whale-bone prosthesis and a withering hatred for the beast. Known as Moby Dick, the whale is infamous for his encounters and escapes with whale ships, and Ahab offers a gold coin, nailed to the Pequod's mast, as a reward for whoever sights him first. Beginning on a cold Christmas morning, the crew embarks on a journey to find the whale and make their fortunes. An exciting staple of American literature, Moby-Dick is a must-read for anyone interested in the classics. Herman Melville was inspired to write Moby Dick by the 1821 biographical account Narrative of the Most Extraordinary and Distressing Shipwreck of the Whale-ship Essex (Cosimo Classics, 2015), which in turn inspired the 2000 novel and 2015 movie, In the Heart of the Sea. HERMAN MELVILLE (1819-1891) was an American novelist. Born in New York, Melville lived and worked in the city for many years before moving with his family to Massachusetts, where he enjoyed a short friendship with author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Many of Melville's books are inspired by his own experiences; he sailed on merchant and whaling ships, spent time on the Marquesas Islands with natives, and spent time in England, Egypt, and Palestine. Melville even wrote poetry reflecting on the American Civil War. He eventually retired in New York City, where he was buried in the Bronx, relatively unknown. Melville was the author of 19 books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, including *Typee* (1846), Moby-Dick (1851), "Bartelby the Scrivener" (1853), "Benito Cerino" (1855), Battle-Pieces and Aspects of the War (1866), and Billy Budd, Sailor (1891, unfinished).
