Book excerpt: The book offers a study of a fascinating political personality, that of Japanese prime minister Abe Shinzôō (2012-2020). Abe's political career was boosted by his predecessor Koizumi Jun.ichirōô and he seemed extremely promising at 51 when he rose to become the youngest Cabinet Secretariat chief, however once in power in 2007 he disappointed by resigning after only one year. Yet, he rose again in 2012 to become the longest-serving prime minister of Japan's history since the end of the Meiji Era (1868-1912), when Japan went through a radical process of modernisation and westernisation, becoming a major military and imperialist power in the process. The book seeks to answer three questions. How could Abe Shinzô remain in power for nearly a decade in a country where prime ministers usually have much shorter terms, in some cases of only one year? He remained in power in spite of the fact that he sought to conduct massive reforms. What was the policy mix devised to keep voters happy, while promoting structural reforms and growth? He was in power for almost ten years. What is his legacy: what remains of his tenure as chief executive?

Book excerpt: Shinzo Abe entered politics burdened by high expectations: that he would change Japan. In 2007, seemingly overwhelmed, he resigned after only a year as prime minister. Yet, following five years of reinvention, he masterfully regained the premiership in 2012, and now dominates Japanese democracy as no leader has done before. Abe has inspired fierce loyalty among his followers, cowing Japan's left with his ambitious economic program and support for the security and armed forces. He has staked a leadership role for Japan in a region being rapidly transformed by the rise of China and India, while carefully preserving an ironclad relationship with Trump's America. The Iconoclast tells the story of Abe's meteoric rise and stunning fall, his remarkable comeback, and his unlikely emergence as a global statesman laying the groundwork for Japan's survival in a turbulent century.

Book excerpt: This book, (LIFETIME OF SHINZO ABE: The Legacy of Japan's Former Prime Minister and the New Japan) undertakes research into the history of Japan and the life of Japanese former Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, his economic policies, and legacies. Shinzo Abe was best known for his Abenomics, an economic program that raised government expenditure and pushed more cash into the circulation of the Japanese economy. It was renowned for two main changes: a vow to utilize macro policy levers to end deflation and a pledge to pursue supply-side reforms to boost Japan's actual potential growth, utilizing the "arrows." It chronicles the narrative of Abe's spectacular ascent and startling collapse, his extraordinary rebound, and his unusual emergence as a global statesman laying the framework for Japan's survival in a dangerous century.

Book Shinzo Abe s History and Legacy

Download or read book Shinzo Abe s History and Legacy written by Toyohiro Akiyama and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-07-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: 心の中で永遠に Shinzo Abe, the Great Leader of Japan, will be recognized for his enormous leadership achievements in Japan as well as his contributions to world peace and international diplomacy. Toyohiro Akiyama provides a superb study of Shinzo's life, the recent event of his murder, as well as the reason behind this horrific deed that took the life of Japan's Former Prime Minister, in this intriguing book. Abe led Japan's quest to host the 2020 Olympics and worked to strengthen relations between Tokyo and the United States and its allies in the Indo-Pacific region in an effort to improve the country's standing internationally. He stated that China's military modernisation and North Korea's nuclear development put Japan in a perilous world and increased the risk in its own area. He advocated for Taiwan's inclusion in international organizations and maintained a tough stance against China. Taiwan is an island claimed by Beijing. Abe was referred to as "not just a good friend but Taiwan's unwavering ally" by Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday. Abe's 2013 decision to visit a contentious shrine honoring the Japanese war dead, becoming the first prime leader to do so since 2006, worsened relations between Beijing and Tokyo. The location is regarded as a monument to the atrocities done by the Japanese during World War II in both China and South Korea. Abe stressed the ties between the United States and Japan, and he was the first head of state to meet with Donald Trump after he was elected president in November 2016. Late on Thursday, the former president referred to Abe as "a very outstanding man and leader" in a post on his Truth Social website. He was a genuine friend of mine and, more significantly, of America, added Trump. "The beautiful people of Japan, who loved and appreciated him so much, have been dealt a devastating blow," When Trump pulled the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a planned trade pact with 11 other Pacific countries, he threw Abe a curveball. Japan took the initiative in drafting a replacement deal without the United States under Abe's direction. In order to further American involvement in the Indo-Pacific area, Abe was also a leading factor for the revival of the Quad, an informal security alliance made up of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. One of the finest eye openers for the circumstances surrounding Shinzo's life and death is this book. 心の中で永遠に (c)️ Toyohiro Akiyama

Book The Abe Doctrine

Download or read book The Abe Doctrine written by Daisuke Akimoto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on Prime Minister Abe’s policy toward international peace and security proposed in 2013 under the basic principle of ‘proactive contribution to peace’. To this end, this book investigates Prime Minister Abe’s policy-making process of the Peace and Security Legislation, which transformed Japan’s security policy and enabled Japan to exercise the right of ‘collective self-defense’, which used to be ‘unconstitutional’. This book evaluates the implications of the Peace and Security Legislation on three fronts, domestic, bilateral, and international, by analyzing Japan’s Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) program, the Japan-US alliance system, and Japan’s policy on international peacekeeping operations in South Sudan. This book is one of the first contributions to the research on Japan’s foreign and security policy under the Shinzo Abe administration and will be of interest to scholars, policymakers, and students of Japan, Japanese politics and international relations of the Asia-Pacific region.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 21, 1954, Shinzo Abe was born in Tokyo, Japan. He is a conservative politician and the current prime minister of Japan. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is credited for restoring political stability to the country. His first term as prime minister saw Abe give voice to swelling national sentiments after an economic downturn and numerous leadership changes. An unrelenting sense of nationalism and calls to alter Japan's pacifist constitution resulted from these feelings. When it comes to the Japanese government, his second tenure as Prime Minister is the most talked about position he's had. Back in 2012, what made him stand out from the crowd was his pledge, made in the context of structural changes, to fight hard to eliminate deflation through fiscal policies that would raise wages and boost economic development. While Abe's popularity has dwindled among voters and many members of his own party owing to cronyism scandals, he has retained his popularity with the Japanese public, who are optimistic about the future because of his laid-out programs. Approximately 5:03 p.m. local time has been given as the official time of death for Abe, according to medical specialists at Nara Medical University. Medical professionals revealed that they were unable to stop the significant bleeding after he was rushed to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest on Friday. This book will tell the story of Shinzo's early life and how it shaped him into the man he is now. You'll find out how he got to be a politician, who impacted him and why, where his political convictions originated from, and where he stands on important topics now. Get to know his relationships with politicians and his admiration for them, and discover how he helped shape national policies, such as improving Japan's ties with the United States of America.

Book A Tale of Two Continents

Download or read book A Tale of Two Continents written by Abraham Pais and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "People like myself, who truly feel at home in several countries, are not strictly at home anywhere," writes Abraham Pais, one of the world's leading theoretical physicists, near the beginning of this engrossing chronicle of his life on two continents. The author of an immensely popular biography of Einstein, Subtle Is the Lord, Pais writes engagingly for a general audience. His "tale" describes his period of hiding in Nazi-occupied Holland (he ended the war in a Gestapo prison) and his life in America, particularly at the newly organized Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, then directed by the brilliant and controversial physicist Robert Oppenheimer. Pais tells fascinating stories about Oppenheimer, Einstein, Bohr, Sakharov, Dirac, Heisenberg, and von Neumann, as well as about nonscientists like Chaim Weizmann, George Kennan, Erwin Panofsky, and Pablo Casals. His enthusiasm about science and life in general pervades a book that is partly a memoir, partly a travel commentary, and partly a history of science. Pais's charming recollections of his years as a university student become somber with the German invasion of the Netherlands in 1940. He was presented with an unusual deadline for his graduate work: a German decree that July 14, 1941, would be the final date on which Dutch Jews could be granted a doctoral degree. Pais received the degree, only to be forced into hiding from the Nazis in 1943, practically next door to Anne Frank. After the war, he went to the Institute of Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen to work with Niels Bohr. 1946 began his years at the Institute for Advanced Study, where he worked first as a Fellow and then as a Professor until his move to Rockefeller University in 1963. Combining his understanding of disparate social and political worlds, Pais comments just as insightfully on Oppenheimer's ordeals during the McCarthy era as he does on his own and his European colleagues' struggles during World War II. Book The Movement of Clouds Around Mt Fuji

Download or read book The Movement of Clouds Around Mt Fuji written by Helmut Völter and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 15 year photographic meditation on the clouds surrounding Mount Fuji In the late 1920s, Japanese physicist Masanao Abe built an observatory with a view of Mount Fuji. From it, over the course of fifteen years, he recorded the clouds that surrounded the mountain. He was interested in the scientific question of how the air currents around Fuji could be visualized by means of film and photography. Albeit unintentionally, Abe's motifs fit into a long iconographic tradition: the mountain and the clouds. For decades his archive was left untouched in a Tokyo garden shed. Helmut Völter, who discovered Abe's legacy while working on his book Cloud Studies, sifted through the images of the passionate cineaste who saw a combination of individual images, moving pictures and stereo recordings as the ideal form of scientific evidence. The mere contemplation of these dynamic cloud photographs centring on snow-covered Fuji seems to lift the viewer into the air.
