Download or read book Microprocessor 3 written by Philippe Darche and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculation is the main function of a computer. The central unit is responsible for executing the programs. The microprocessor is its integrated form. This component, since the announcement of its marketing in 1971, has not stopped breaking records in terms of computing power, price reduction and integration of functions (calculation of basic functions, storage with integrated controllers). It is present today in most electronic devices. Knowing its internal mechanisms and programming is essential for the electronics engineer and computer scientist to understand and master the operation of a computer and advanced concepts of programming. This first volume focuses more particularly on the first generations of microprocessors, that is to say those that handle integers in 4 and 8-bit formats. The first chapter presents the calculation function and reminds the memory function. The following is devoted to notions of calculation model and architecture. The concept of bus is then presented. Chapters 4 and 5 can then address the internal organization and operation of the microprocessor first in hardware and then software. The mechanism of the function call, conventional and interrupted, is more particularly detailed in a separate chapter. The book ends with a presentation of architectures of the first microcomputers for a historical perspective. The knowledge is presented in the most exhaustive way possible with examples drawn from current and old technologies that illustrate and make accessible the theoretical concepts. Each chapter ends if necessary with corrected exercises and a bibliography. The list of acronyms used and an index are at the end of the book.

Download or read book Advanced Computer Architecture written by Dharma P. Agrawal and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer architecture is expected to cover the gap between digital hardware and computer software. This tutorial will emphasize the importance of such a close interaction, and the impact of parallel/distributed processing and VLSI technology will be clearly shown. Other important issues include examination of tradeoffs in the design of supercomputers and potential advantages of unique architectural concepts. Strategies for evaluating system performance will also be covered. This tutorial is meant for system designers, application engineers, scientists, researchers, and students. Some background in computer organization/architecture will be assumed.
Download or read book Distributed Shared Memory written by Jelica Protic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1997-08-10 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers present in this text survey both distributed shared memory (DSM) efforts and commercial DSM systems. The book discusses relevant issues that make the concept of DSM one of the most attractive approaches for building large-scale, high-performance multiprocessor systems. The authors provide a general introduction to the DSM field as well as a broad survey of the basic DSM concepts, mechanisms, design issues, and systems. The book concentrates on basic DSM algorithms, their enhancements, and their performance evaluation. In addition, it details implementations that employ DSM solutions at the software and the hardware level. This guide is a research and development reference that provides state-of-the art information that will be useful to architects, designers, and programmers of DSM systems.

Download or read book Parallel Computer Routing and Communication written by Kevin Bolding and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-09-28 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains revised versions of the 23 regular papers presented at the First International Workshop on Parallel Computer Routing and Communication (PCRCW '94), held in Seattle, Washington in May 1994. Routing for parallel computer communication has recently experienced almost explosive activity: ever increasing processor speeds are placing greater demands on interprocessor communication, while technological advances offer new capabilities to respond to those demands. The contributions from industry and academia cover all areas, from details of hardware design to proofs of theoretical results. There are also many papers dealing with the performance of various adaptive routing schemes, new network topologies, network interfaces, and fault-tolerant issues.

Download or read book The History of the GPU Steps to Invention written by Jon Peddie and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in a three-part series that traces the development of the GPU. Initially developed for games the GPU can now be found in cars, supercomputers, watches, game consoles and more. GPU concepts go back to the 1970s when computer graphics was developed for computer-aided design of automobiles and airplanes. Early computer graphics systems were adopted by the film industry and simulators for airplanes and high energy physics—exploding nuclear bombs in computers instead of the atmosphere. A GPU has an integrated transform and lighting engine, but these were not available until the end of the 1990s. Heroic and historic companies expanded the development and capabilities of the graphics controller in pursuit of the ultimate device, a fully integrated self-contained GPU. Fifteen companies worked on building the first fully integrated GPU, some succeeded in the console, and Northbridge segments, and Nvidia was the first to offer a fully integrated GPU for the PC. Today the GPU can be found in every platform that involves a computer and a user interface.
