Book The Rent Trap

Download or read book The Rent Trap written by Rosie Walker and published by Pluto Press (UK). This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deregulation, revenge evictions, corruption, and day-to-day instability: these are realities becoming ever more familiar for those of us who rent our homes or apartments. At the same time, house prices are skyrocketing and the promise of homeownership is now an impossible dream for many. This is the rent-trap, an inescapable consequence of market-induced inequality. Samir Jeraj and Rosie Walker offer the first in-depth case study of the private rental sector in the United Kingdom, exploring the rent-trap injustices in a first-world economy and exposing the powers that conspire to oppose regulation. A quarter of British MPs are landlords; rent strike is almost impossible; and sudden evictions are growing. Nevertheless, drawing on inspiration from movements in the United Kingdom, continental Europe, and elsewhere, The Rent Trap shows how people are starting to fight back against the financial burdens, health risks, and vicious behavior of landlords, working to create a world of fairer, safer housing for all--lessons that extend well beyond the borders of the UK.

In this in this riveting and revealing book, Steve Levy, gives a gripping account of the real-life liberal bias in the media. Once his county's most popular politician, Steve shares a shocking story about how the media treats a politician who switches parties from Democrat to Republican. Few books have been written about switching political affiliations, its repercussions and its consequences.

Bias in the Media explores how the liberal media tries to shape the outcome of elections by:

  1. Omitting information opposing their agenda
  2. Printing outright false information
  3. Determining who will be quoted in articles
  4. Making morality decisions on what is "right" or correct

When Steve Levy was the Democratic county executive of New York's largest suburban county, he believed that complaints of liberal media bias were exaggerated. But after switching parties, running for governor and living in the shoes of a Republican office holder, he came to the conclusion that the bias is not only real, but is actually understated. The change in media coverage Levy experienced firsthand after switching his party from Democrat to Republican was nothing less than startling.

"During his years in Long Island politics and government Steve Levy bravely confronted and exposed the shameless hypocrisy, self-righteousness and left wing bias which pervade Newsday and the New York Times. Now, as an author, he convincingly completes the job. 'Bias In The Media' is a must read!" ~ Congressman Pete King

"Steve Levy gives you a real perspective of public service from the satisfaction of serving citizens to the incredible tribulations involved in switching parties...his unique perspective is all spelled out in this fascinating read." ~Brian Kilmeade , Fox News

Book China s Reform to Overleap the Middle Income Trap

Download or read book China s Reform to Overleap the Middle Income Trap written by Yining Li and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-13 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses how China could avoid the middle-income trap. Professor Li Yining proposed the framework and wrote the first article. Under Li’s guidance, other articles were written by researchers at the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. It is well known that China's reform has been highly successful, but there are still many unsolved institutional problems. The book’s authors suggest that the middle-income trap is composed of three traps. Firstly, there is the “development system trap”. Secondly, the “social crisis trap ” and finally, the “technology trap”. In order to avoid these traps, it is important for China to intensify its economic reform, to lessen the gap between the rich and poor, and to enhance innovations in technology as well as the capital market. This book uses both theoretical and case studies to discuss agricultural modernization, new urbanization, the urban-rural gap, income growth, community management, pastoral areas of medicine and the newly-industrializing economy, etc.

Book A Marginal Economy

Download or read book A Marginal Economy written by Mark Bailey and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989-06-29 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory of the margin has long featured in the work of medieval historians. Marginal regions are taken to be those of poor soil or geographical remoteness, where farmers experienced particular difficulties in grain production. It is argued that such regions were cultivated only when demographic pressure intensified in the thirteenth century, but that a combination of soil exhaustion and demographic decline resulted in severe economic contraction by the end of the fourteenth century. Marginal regions are seen not just as sensitive barometers of economic change but as important catalysts in that change. Despite the importance placed by historians on the general theory of the margin, this book represents the first detailed study of a 'marginal region'. It focuses upon East Anglian Breckland, whose blowing sands are among the most barren soils in lowland England. Drawing upon a wide range of sources, this study reconstructs Breckland's late medieval economy, and shows it to be more diversified and resilient than the stereotype depicted in marginal theory.
