L'analyse des échanges sud-sud et la recherche de leurs déterminants ne conduisent pas a une remise en cause de la structure des flux d'échanges internationaux ni de leurs explications théoriques. En revanche, elles permettent quantitativement une meilleure insertion d'un certain nombre de pvd dans le commerce mondial et d'un point de vue théorique une meilleure explication de la spécialisation et des échanges sud-sud en se fondant notamment sur le concept de l'avantage comparatif régional. Appliquée dans le cadre régional de l'Amérique latine et plus précisément de l'association latino-américaine d'intégration (Aladi), l'analyse a pour but la vérification empirique des indicateurs et modèles économétriques portant sur les composantes de l'avantage comparatif régional en tant que concept et comme déterminant de la spécialisation régionale et des échanges sud-sud intra et inter régionaux.
