This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book of Physiological and Pathological Chemistry These Lectures have also the merit of being written by a man who was philosopher, mathematician and chemist before he was a physiologist, and who, being thus in a position to grasp the general bearings of his subject, has succeeded in making the dry bones of physiological chemistry interesting even to the beginner. It was with great pleasure that I undertook to edit a new translation by my wife of the latest German Edition, as I con sider it eminently desirable that these suggestive Lectures should be available for those students and medical men who are not familiar with German. Book Text Book of Physiological Chemistry in Thirty Lectures Classic Reprint

Download or read book Text Book of Physiological Chemistry in Thirty Lectures Classic Reprint written by Emil Abderhalden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-08 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Physiological Chemistry in Thirty Lectures Physiology and physiological chemistry were at one time a single field of investigation. The latter, owing to the remarkable progress of the exact sciences chemistry and physics, has now developed to such an impor tant branch of natural science that it is altogether impossible today for any one scientist to master thoroughly in all its details the whole field of physiology. Little by little, there has developed a sharp distinction between pure physiology and physiological chemistry. It is clear that an artificial separation of two such closely related fields of investiga tion must work to disadvantage for the development of each, so that it is fortunate to find it recognized more and more that the whole science of physiology can only develop satisfactorily when there is an intimate exchange of ideas between investigators in the two fields. The chemical decompositions in the tissues do not take place beside the physiological processes, but are bound up with them. In no single case can we carry out any distinction-in such a sense; and with those organs in which the relations between the functions and the metabolism are not known, this is chiefly because of our limited knowledge concerning the latter. In this connection we need only recall the whole nervous system. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Text Book of Physiological and Pathological Chemistry written by Gustav von Bunge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-27 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Physiological and Pathological Chemistry Professor Bunge's Lectures on Physiological Chemistry have had a great influence on physiological thought both here and abroad. Representing as they do the ideas which have produced throughout many years discoveries of fundamental importance in the school of Schmiedeberg, they have served to spread the method of thought of that school and to render more effective the work of men in other laboratories. Among these researches, I might especially mention those of Schmiedeberg alone or in conjunction with his pupils on the mechanism of oxidation in the body, on the occurrence of synthetic processes in the body (e.g., the synthesis of hippuric acid in the kidney, worked out by Bunge and Schmiedeberg), Schröder's work on the formation of urea, Minkowski and Naunyn on uric acid, Minkowski on the production of diabetes by extirpation of the pancreas, besides researches into the chemistry of nucleins, of chondrin, the mucins (Leathes), and many other subjects of bio-chemical interest. These Lectures have also the merit of being written by a man who was philosopher, mathematician and chemist before he was a physiologist, and who, being thus in a position to grasp the general bearings of his subject, has succeeded in making the dry bones of physiological chemistry interesting even to the beginner. It was with great pleasure that I undertook to edit a new translation by my wife of the latest German Edition, as I consider it eminently desirable that these suggestive Lectures should be available for those students and medical men who are not familiar with German. Book A Manual of Chemical Physiology Including Its Points of Contact with Pathology Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Chemical Physiology Including Its Points of Contact with Pathology Classic Reprint written by J. L. W. Thudichum and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Chemical Physiology Including Its Points of Contact With Pathology The second part of the work is an Analytical Guide for the use of those who desire to make themselves practically acquainted with the phenomena and con stituents of animal bodies. It is therefore not de scriptive in the sense in which ordinary chemical text books may be said to be so, but prescriptive in the style and manner of pharmacopoeias. It directs the student how to proceed in order to arrive at a certain result, leaving him in most cases to appreciate the result of his operation by his own reflection. The guide is perhaps the most elementary that could be written for any practical purpose, and yet I think it improbable that ordinary students of medicine will easily go through the whole of its matter in the laboratory. I hope, therefore, that teachers of chemistry who will make use of the Guide in their classes will select the reactions and analyses to be performed by each student according to his knowledge, ability, and intentions. Book A Text Book of Physiological Chemistry for Students of Medicine Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of Physiological Chemistry for Students of Medicine Classic Reprint written by John Harper Long and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Physiological Chemistry, for Students of Medicine In the following pages I have attempted to present a brief account of the important principles of physiological chemistry in a form suitable for the use of medical students who may be assumed to have completed courses in the elements of general inorganic and organic chemistry. From the very necessities of the case a work of this character, dealing with many topics in an elementary way, must be largely a compilation; in the selection of material, besides consulting the standard hand books, I have made free use of the recent monographs by Cohnheim. Effront and Oppenheimer, as well as of numerous articles in the Zeitschrift fur physiologische Chemie, the Beitrage zur chemischen Physiologie und Pathologie and other journals. As the book is intended for beginners I have not thought it necessary to make any special quotations of literature references. In addition to the usual topics of discussion in elementary works on physiological chemistry I have given an outline of the chemical phases of the recent theories of immunity, and a short explanation of the important applications of the methods of cryoscopy and electrical conductivity, and other physical processes, in the field of chemistry related to medicine. Work in these latter lines must soon become a part of the laboratory training of medical students. A considerable number of illustrative experiments are given in the text, but distinguished by being printed in smaller type. These experiments are sufficiently numerous and comprehensive to serve the purpose of a laboratory course parallel with the general course. In the work of proofreading I have received very material assistance from my colleague, Dr. W. H. Buhlig, to whom my sincere thanks are due. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Physiological Chemistry Workers in Biochemistry are to be congratulated on the appearance of a new edition Of Hammarsten's Physiologischen Chemie. At this time, when so many new and important biochemical facts are being published and when so many Older theories and deductions are found more or less erroneous, due to recent investigations using, new methods, it is very fortunate that we have this complete and critical compilation from the master hand Of Professor Hammarsten, now in his 73d year. We all owe him a great debt Of gratitude for his painstaking work for so many years. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
