Book Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems

Download or read book Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems written by Jerry B. Marion and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems presents a modern and reasonably complete account of the classical mechanics of particles, systems of particles, and rigid bodies for physics students at the advanced undergraduate level. The book aims to present a modern treatment of classical mechanical systems in such a way that the transition to the quantum theory of physics can be made with the least possible difficulty; to acquaint the student with new mathematical techniques and provide sufficient practice in solving problems; and to impart to the student some degree of sophistication in handling both the formalism of the theory and the operational technique of problem solving. Vector methods are developed in the first two chapters and are used throughout the book. Other chapters cover the fundamentals of Newtonian mechanics, the special theory of relativity, gravitational attraction and potentials, oscillatory motion, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics, central-force motion, two-particle collisions, and the wave equation.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanics: A d104-Book for Engineers This book is intended to give a working knowledge of the principles of Mechanics and to supply a foundation upon which intelligent study of Strength of Materials, Stresses in Structures, Machine Design, and other courses of more technical nature may rest. In the development of this subject, emphasis is put upon the physical character of the ideas involved, while mathematics is. employed as a convenient tool for the determination and expression of quantitative relations. Analytical and graphical methods are given together and each is interpreted in terms of the other. While the principal stress is placed upon Mechanics as a science, considerable attention is given to Mechanics as an art. In the text, in some of the problems, and in many of the illustrative examples, methods of calculation are suggested by means of which accurate results may be most readily obtained. The definitions of work and potential energy, together with the solution of problems of statics by the method of virtual work are given early. In the treatment of dynamics, the definitions of kinetic energy and its application to the conditions of variable motion are introduced as soon as possible. In equations involving acceleration or energy, the common commercial units are employed - the pound mass as the unit of mass and the weight of the pound mass as the unit of force. In order to clear up the confusion which results from the fact that physicists use one set of units while some engineering writers use another. Chapter XVIII is devoted to a discussion of the various systems. The author acknowledges his obligations to many of his colleagues who have assisted in the preparation of this book. P. W. Ott of the Department of Mechanics checked the problems of several chapters. S. A. Harbarger of the Department of English read all the manuscript and assisted in the final revision. Book Introduction To Classical Mechanics

Download or read book Introduction To Classical Mechanics written by John Dirk Walecka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook aims to provide a clear and concise set of lectures that take one from the introduction and application of Newton's laws up to Hamilton's principle of stationary action and the lagrangian mechanics of continuous systems. An extensive set of accessible problems enhances and extends the coverage. It serves as a prequel to the author's recently published book entitled Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism based on an introductory course taught sometime ago at Stanford with over 400 students enrolled. Both lectures assume a good, concurrent, course in calculus and familiarity with basic concepts in physics; the development is otherwise self-contained.A good introduction to the subject allows one to approach the many more intermediate and advanced texts with better understanding and a deeper sense of appreciation that both students and teachers alike can share.

Book No Nonsense Classical Mechanics

Download or read book No Nonsense Classical Mechanics written by Jakob Schwichtenberg and published by No-Nonsense Books. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning classical mechanics doesn’t have to be hard What if there was a way to learn classical mechanics without all the usual fluff? What if there were a book that allowed you to see the whole picture and not just tiny parts of it? Thoughts like this are the reason that No-Nonsense Classical Mechanics now exists. What will you learn from this book? Get to know all fundamental mechanics concepts — Grasp why we can describe classical mechanics using the Lagrangian formalism, the Newtonian formalism, or the Hamiltonian formalism and how these frameworks are connected.Learn to describe classical mechanics mathematically — Understand the meaning and origin of the most important equations: Newton's second law, the Euler-Lagrange equation and Hamilton's equations.Master the most important classical mechanics systems — Read fully annotated, step-by-step calculations and understand the general algorithm we use to describe them.Get an understanding you can be proud of — Learn about beautiful and deep insights like Noether's theorem or Liouville's theorem and how classical mechanics emerges in a proper limit of special relativity, quantum mechanics and general relativity. No-Nonsense Classical Mechanics is the most student-friendly book on classical nechanics ever written. Here’s why. First of all, it's is nothing like a formal university lecture. Instead, it’s like a casual conservation with a more experienced student. This also means that nothing is assumed to be “obvious” or “easy to see”.Each chapter, each section, and each page focuses solely on the goal to help you understand. Nothing is introduced without a thorough motivation and it is always clear where each equation comes from. The book contains no fluff since unnecessary content quickly leads to confusion. Instead, it ruthlessly focuses on the fundamentals and makes sure you’ll understand them in detail. The primary focus on the readers’ needs is also visible in dozens of small features that you won’t find in any other textbook In total, the book contains more than 100 illustrations that help you understand the most important concepts visually. In each chapter, you’ll find fully annotated equations and calculations are done carefully step-by-step. This makes it much easier to understand what’s going on in.Whenever a concept is used that was already introduced previously there is a short sidenote that reminds you where it was first introduced and often recites the main points. In addition, there are summaries at the beginning of each chapter that make sure you won’t get lost.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanics for Engineers: A Text-Book of Intermediate Standard Engineering students constitute a fairly large proportion of those attending the Mechanics classes in technical colleges and schools, but their needs are not identical with those of the students of general science. It has recently become a common practice to provide separate classes in Mathematics, adapted to the special needs of engineering students, who are in most institutions sufficiently numerous to justify similar provision in Mechanics. The aim of this book is to provide a suitable course in the principles of Mechanics for engineering students. Book Applied Mechanics for Engineers

Download or read book Applied Mechanics for Engineers written by E. L. Hancock and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Applied Mechanics for Engineers: A d104-Book for Engineering Students In the preparation of this book the author has had in mind the fact that the student finds much difficulty in seeing the applications of theory to practical problems. For this reason each new principle developed is followed by a number of applications. In many cases these are illustrated, and they all deal with matters that directly concern the engineer. It is believed that problems in mechanics should be practical engineering work. The author has endeavored to follow out this idea in writing the present volume. Accordingly, the title "Applied Mechanics for Engineers" has been given to the book. The book is intended as a text-book for engineering students of the Junior year. The subject-matter is such as is usually covered by the work of one semester. In some chapters more material is presented than can be used in this time. With this idea in mind, the articles in these chapters have been arranged so that those coming last may be omitted without affecting the continuity of the work. The book contains more problems than can usually be given in any one semester. While it is difficult to present new material in the matter of principles, much that is new has been introduced in the applications of these principles. The subject of Couples is treated by representing the couples by means of vectors. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Classical Mechanics written by R. Douglas Gregory and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-04-13 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gregory's Classical Mechanics is a major new textbook for undergraduates in mathematics and physics. It is a thorough, self-contained and highly readable account of a subject many students find difficult. The author's clear and systematic style promotes a good understanding of the subject: each concept is motivated and illustrated by worked examples, while problem sets provide plenty of practice for understanding and technique. Computer assisted problems, some suitable for projects, are also included. The book is structured to make learning the subject easy; there is a natural progression from core topics to more advanced ones and hard topics are treated with particular care. A theme of the book is the importance of conservation principles. These appear first in vectorial mechanics where they are proved and applied to problem solving. They reappear in analytical mechanics, where they are shown to be related to symmetries of the Lagrangian, culminating in Noether's theorem.

Download or read book A History of Mechanics written by René Dugas and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11-07 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A remarkable work which will remain a document of the first rank for the historian of mechanics." — Louis de Broglie In this masterful synthesis and summation of the science of mechanics, Rene Dugas, a leading scholar and educator at the famed Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, deals with the evolution of the principles of general mechanics chronologically from their earliest roots in antiquity through the Middle Ages to the revolutionary developments in relativistic mechanics, wave and quantum mechanics of the early 20th century. The present volume is divided into five parts: The first treats of the pioneers in the study of mechanics, from its beginnings up to and including the sixteenth century; the second section discusses the formation of classical mechanics, including the tremendously creative and influential work of Galileo, Huygens and Newton. The third part is devoted to the eighteenth century, in which the organization of mechanics finds its climax in the achievements of Euler, d'Alembert and Lagrange. The fourth part is devoted to classical mechanics after Lagrange. In Part Five, the author undertakes the relativistic revolutions in quantum and wave mechanics. Writing with great clarity and sweep of vision, M. Dugas follows closely the ideas of the great innovators and the texts of their writings. The result is an exceptionally accurate and objective account, especially thorough in its accounts of mechanics in antiquity and the Middle Ages, and the important contributions of Jordanus of Nemore, Jean Buridan, Albert of Saxony, Nicole Oresme, Leonardo da Vinci, and many other key figures. Erudite, comprehensive, replete with penetrating insights, AHistory of Mechanics is an unusually skillful and wide-ranging study that belongs in the library of anyone interested in the history of science.

Download or read book Text Book of Mechanics Vol 5 Classic Reprint written by Louis A. Martin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book of Mechanics, Vol. 5 Mechanics may conveniently be divided into three parts: mechanics of solids, Of liquids, and of gases. Mechan ics of solids, when ideal, rigid solids only are considered, forms the simplest part of the subject, and this is the part first studied under the title of theoretical mechanics. When rigidity is no longer assumed the study of the mechanics of solids involves the elastic properties of materials. The rational, rigorously developed theory of elasticity is so complicated and leads to results SO unsatisfactory from the practical standpoint that engineering students are (and all students should be) first taught a simplified theory of elasticity known as mechanics of materials where, whenever the rigorous theory leads too far afield, recourse is had to approximations and reasonable assumptions based upon observation and experiment. The study of the mechanics of liquids is divided into hydrostatics and hydrokinetics. In the first division are studied the effects of liquids at rest; in the second liquids in motion.
