Book Eighty Seventh Annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Download or read book Eighty Seventh Annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints written by Jesus Christ of Latter Church and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Eighty-Seventh Annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: Held in the Tabernacle and Assembly Hall, Salt Lake City, Utah, April 6th, 7th and 8th, 1917, With a Full Report of the Discourses Charity, or love, is the greatest principle in existence. If we can lend a helping hand to the oppressed, if we can aid those who are despondent and in sorrow, if we can uplift and ameliorate the condition of mankind, it is our misssion to do it, it is an essential part of our religion to do it. And I say to our friends present that we have an organization in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints that. Is perfect in its opera tion, by which we may call today to almost the whole Church, for aid, and tomorrow we will receive returns with the generous contributions that are freely given for a good cause, and it Will cost nobody a cent. Every dime contributed for the benefit of the poor goes to the poor, and 13 not consumed by charitable organizations, who collect and handle means in tended for the poor, and are paid for their services, thus absorbing a large percentage of the means contributed for the benefit of the poor, by those who are not poor. I wish to announce that to our friends. The Latter-day Saints know this, they understand it. They have recollection of recent events in which, within twenty-four hours or thereabouts, the people of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints contributed somewhere near and it was sent to the afflicted people of the east that were suffering in consequence of war, and it was put into hands who would distribute it wisely to those who needed, without cost to any body; and a portion of that fund, which was not distributed, remains to be dealt out to those who are really in need as their circumstances require. Book The Texas Mathematics Teachers Bulletin Vol 3

Download or read book The Texas Mathematics Teachers Bulletin Vol 3 written by University of Texas and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-23 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Texas Mathematics Teachers' Bulletin, Vol. 3: February 20, 1918 In the summer of 1916, during the first four days of the University Summer School, there was held at the University of Texas a Mathematics Tea'chers' Conference. It was rather well advertised in this bulletin and in the literature sent out by the University concerning the session. About thirty teachers came for the conference. They were earnest and enthusiastic and there was a. Feeling that some good had been done. As the writer recalls the matter at this time, each teacher who attended undertook to come again the following year and bring with him two others. Having this encouragement, a second conference for teachers of mathematics Was planned for the same time in 1917. There had been some correspondence on the subject with teachers who had been at the first one, and it was the hope of those who had launched the movement that the next meeting would be both more numerously attended and more profitable to those attend ing than had been the first one. One of the hopes, at least, was not realized. The attendance instead of being larger than in 1916 was somewhat smaller; as to the comparative profitableness of the two occasions, the writer has no sure basis for a very positive opinion. We find ourselves, therefore, in somewhat of a quandary as to whether to attempt a conference this summer. The days for. The meeting would be June 12 to 15. Those of us who are at the University, especially those of us who started this move ment, are loth to see the meetings discontinued, but have no mind to carry them on unless they can reach a reasonable num ber of teachers of mathematics in Texas Schools. Book Women and Texas History

Download or read book Women and Texas History written by Fane Downs and published by Texas State Historical Assn. This book was released on 1993 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women have long made significant contributions to Texas history. Only in recent years, however, has their part in that history begun to be told. The great strides made in Texas women's studies are reflected in this important new book of essays about women and their many roles in the history of our state. In October 1990, the Texas State Historical Association sponsored a conference, "Women and Texas History," which brought together some of the leading scholars in the field of women's studies. This highly successful conference -- attended by hundreds and awarded recognition for its excellence by the AASLH -- produced a raft of exciting presentations which demonstrated the vigorous quality and growth of women's studies in and about Texas. Women and Texas History includes thirteen of the best presentations at the conference. This "milestone" publication, notes Fane Downs in her introduction to Women and Texas History, represents "the emerging maturity of the field of Texas women's history; moreover, these essays add significantly to our knowledge of the complex and diverse history of Texas." This ground-breaking volume will be of interest to students, scholars, and general readers, and is well adapted to classroom use. Publication of this book was made possible in part by grants from the RGK Foundation of Austin and the Texas Committee for the Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
