Book Improving the Software Testing Skills of Novices During Onboarding Through Social Transparency

Download or read book Improving the Software Testing Skills of Novices During Onboarding Through Social Transparency written by Raphael Pham and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2016-12-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inexperienced software developers - such as fresh graduates - shape the future of software engineering as a practice. Supporting these novice developers in becoming high quality engineers is a key objective of our engineering community. Yet, inexperienced developers have considerable trouble in applying the fundamentals of systematic software testing in industrial settings. Gaps in testing skills arise from inherent attributes of systematic testing itself and environmental attributes, such as the educational setting in universities. Frustrated, practitioners have long since devised cost intensive workarounds. In this thesis, this problem situation is qualitatively analyzed in great detail, leveraging insights from three Grounded Theory studies. Employing Everett M. Rogers' 'Theory of the Diffusion of Innovation', strategic improvements to the onboarding situation are presented. Lastly, tool support for the strategies developed in this thesis is presented and evaluated.

Book Ceramic Materials and Components for Engines

Download or read book Ceramic Materials and Components for Engines written by Jürgen G. Heinrich and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-11-21 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several ceramic parts have already proven their suitability for serial application in automobile engines in very impressive ways, especially in Japan, the USA and in Germany. However, there is still a lack of economical quality assurance concepts. Recently, a new generation of ceramic components, for the use in energy, transportation and environment systems, has been developed. The efforts are more and more system oriented in this field. The only possibility to manage this complex issue in the future will be interdisciplinary cooperation. Chemists, physicists, material scientists, process engineers, mechanical engineers and engine manufacturers will have to cooperate in a more intensive way than ever before. The R&D activities are still concentrating on gas turbines and reciprocating engines, but also on brakes, bearings, fuel cells, batteries, filters, membranes, sensors and actuators as well as on shaping and cutting tools for low expense machining of ceramic components. This book summarizes the scientific papers of the 7th International Symposium "Ceramic Materials and Components for Engines". Some of the most fascinating new applications of ceramic meterials in energy, transportation and environment systems are presented. The proceedings shall lead to new ideas for interdisciplinary activities in the future.

Book Testing Lecture Comprehension Through Listening to summarize Cloze Tasks

Download or read book Testing Lecture Comprehension Through Listening to summarize Cloze Tasks written by Haiping Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the effectiveness of listen-to-summarize tasks as a tool to assess lecture comprehension ability. It especially focuses on listen-to-summarize tasks that represent listeners’ meaning building and the discourse construction of the lecture for listening assessment purposes. It discusses in depth the nature of lecture comprehension and introduces the approaches to assessing it. It also presents teachers’ and students’ perceptions of listen-to-summarize task demands and their respective implications. By observing interactions between test-takers’ cognitive processes and the task itself, the book explores the effectiveness of these tasks. It also examines the discrepancy in cognitive processes between different language competence levels in detail, shedding light upon current research on lecture comprehension assessment and offering insights into listening comprehension instruction.
