Book Testing for Prediction of Material Performance in Components and Structures

Download or read book Testing for Prediction of Material Performance in Components and Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey was made of problems of testing materials to predict their performance in components and structures. The viewpoint is that of the designer and those whom he serves. The report discusses the role of testing in arriving at design decisions. Checklists and other practical hints for deciding when to test and when testing could be superfluous are provided. Appendices furnish useful reference and instructional material. (Author-PL).

Book New Materials for Next Generation Commercial Transports

Download or read book New Materials for Next Generation Commercial Transports written by Committee on New Materials for Advanced Civil Aircraft and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-03-29 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major objective of this book was to identify issues related to the introduction of new materials and the effects that advanced materials will have on the durability and technical risk of future civil aircraft throughout their service life. The committee investigated the new materials and structural concepts that are likely to be incorporated into next generation commercial aircraft and the factors influencing application decisions. Based on these predictions, the committee attempted to identify the design, characterization, monitoring, and maintenance issues that are critical for the introduction of advanced materials and structural concepts into future aircraft.

Book Fatigue Life Prediction of Composites and Composite Structures

Download or read book Fatigue Life Prediction of Composites and Composite Structures written by Anastasios P. Vassilopoulos and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Life Prediction of Composites and Composite Structures, Second Edition, is a comprehensive review of fatigue damage and fatigue life modeling and prediction methodologies for composites and their use in practice. In this new edition, existing chapters are fully updated, while new chapters are introduced to cover the most recent developments in the field. The use of composites is growing in structural applications in many industries, including aerospace, marine, wind turbine and civil engineering. However, there are uncertainties about their long-term performance, including performance issues relating to cyclic fatigue loading that hinder the adoption of a commonly accepted credible fatigue design methodology for the life prediction of composite engineering structures. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, this book is a standard reference for industry professionals and researchers alike. - Examines past, present and future trends associated with the fatigue life prediction of composite materials and structures - Assesses novel computational methods for fatigue life modeling and prediction of composite materials under constant amplitude loading - Covers a wide range of techniques for predicting fatigue, including their theoretical background and practical applications - Addresses new topics and covers contemporary research developments in the field

Book Research Agenda for Test Methods and Models to Simulate the Accelerated Aging of Infrastructure Materials

Download or read book Research Agenda for Test Methods and Models to Simulate the Accelerated Aging of Infrastructure Materials written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-06-29 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the next several decades, a significant percentage of the country's transportation, communications, environmental, and power system infrastructures, as well as public buildings and facilities, will have to be renewed or replaced. Next-generation infrastructure will have to meet very high expectations in terms of durability, constructability, performance, and life-cycle cost. One way of meeting future expectations will be through improved, high-performance materials, but before new materials can be confidently deployed in the field, a thorough and comprehensive understanding must be developed of their long-term performance in a variety of applications and physical environments. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched an initiative to promote the development of innovative short-term laboratory or in-situ tests for making accurate, reliable predictions of the long-term performance of materials and requested that the National Research Council (NRC) conduct a workshop as a reconnaissance-level assessment of models and methods that are being used, or potentially could be used, to determine the long-term performance of infrastructure materials and components.
