Book Divine Inspiration of the Bible

Download or read book Divine Inspiration of the Bible written by Arthur Pink and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers,. This book was released on 2007 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pink (1890-1953) was a Baptist Preacher in England, Australia, and the United States. Pink, assisted by his editor Mr. I. Herendeen, launched his yearly publication, Studies in the Scriptures in 1921. These continued until his death, totaling altogether 33 volumes of 288 pp. each. Most of Pink's books are taken from these yearly volumes (written monthly in 24 page format). Arthur Pink declares, ''Christianity is the religion of a Book. Christianity is based upon the impregnable rock of Holy Scripture.., Upon the foundation of the Divine inspiration of the Bible stands or falls the entire edifice of Christian truth. `If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do's' (Psalm 11:3).'' Surrender the dogma of verbal inspiration and you are left like a rudderless ship on a stormy sea, at the mercy of every wind that blows. Deny that the Bible is, without any qualification, the very Word of God, and you are left without any ultimate standard of measurement and without any supreme authority. It is useless to discuss any doctrine taught by the Bible until you are prepared to acknowledge, unreservedly, that the Bible is the final court of appeal. Grant that the Bible is a Divine revelation and communication of God's own mind and will to men, and you have a fixed starting point from which advance can be made into the domain of truth. Grant that the Bible is (in its original manuscripts) inerrant and infallible, and you reach the place where study of its contents is both practicable and profitable. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of the doctrine of the Divine inspiration of Scripture. This is the strategic center of Christian theology, and must be defended at all costs. It is the point at which our satanic enemy is constantly hurling his hellish battalions. The author shows how our need for a revelation from God is strong evince for the reliability of the Bible. He bases his arguments for the Divine inspiration of the Bible on its solid and undeniable internal evidences, on its indestructibility, and on its powerful in influences on human history. The believer wild experience a strengthening of faith, and the seeker will be struck by the reality of God's redeeming work on behalf of fallen humanity.

This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Inspiration of the Bible If the Bible is the Word of God; if it stands on an in finitely exalted plane, all alone; if it immeasurably tran scends all the greatest productions of human genius; then, we should naturally expect to find that it has unique cre dentials, that there are internal marks which prove it to be the handiwork of God, that there is conclusive evidence to show that its Author is superhuman, Divine. That these expectations are realized we shall now endeavor to show; that there is no reason whatever for any one to doubt the Divine inspiration of the Scriptures is the purpose of this book to demonstrate. As we examine the natural world we find innumerable proofs of the existence of a Personal Creator, and the same God who has manifested Himself thro' His works has also revealed His wisdom and will thro' His Word. The God of creation and the God of written revelation are One, and there are irrefutable arguments to show that the Almighty who made the heavens and the earth. Is also the Author of the Bible. Book The Nature and Extent of Divine Inspiration

Download or read book The Nature and Extent of Divine Inspiration written by C. A. Row and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Nature and Extent of Divine Inspiration: As Stated by the Writers, and Deduced From the Facts, of the New Testament The utmost variety of Opinion has been maintained re specting the nature and degree of the inspiration under the influence of which the New Testament has been composed. Have such Opinions the foundation of certainty, or are they mere assumptions based on uncertain evidence? On what principles have these theories been assumed? Many of them are founded on considerations supposed to arise out of the probabilities or the necessities of the case. It is not even pretended that the greater portion of such Opinions are the result of careful inquiry into the facts presented by the pages of the New Testament: they are based on mere grounds of supposed antecedent probability. Now universal experience has proved that, except within the region of strict demonstration, the principles of induction are the only safe guides to truth in every department of human knowledge. Why should not those principles be applied to the New Testament Scriptures, with a view to ascertain from those Scriptures themselves the nature of the inspiration under the influence of which they have been written? Mere assertions and theories applied to the study of the natural universe have led those employing them, not to the discovery of truth, but into endless mazes of error. Why should assumptions and theories, which have been utterly discarded as guides to truth in every matter of inferior mo ment, be still retained as the only safe modes of determining the nature of the inspiration under the influence of which the New Testament Scriptures have been composed? Book Nature of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture Classic Reprint

Download or read book Nature of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture Classic Reprint written by James Macgregor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Nature of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture It is quite conceivable that a primitive divine revelation should have been left to be recorded by simply human inspira tion or authorship. It is of great importance to remember that the character and history of the Christian Church, and the records contained in our Scriptures, though these should be regarded as simply human in their authorship, cannot be reasonably accounted for except upon the supposition of an original divine revelation, involving a miraculous intervention of God in history for the redemption of lost men. From the external apologetic point of view this is so important that Christian apologists are naturally impatient or doubtful in relation to a view received from within the heart of the Christian system. But the view received from within the heart of the Christian system is that upon which the apologists themselves, so far as they are Christian, live, and which has all along lain at the root of Christian life in God. And that view is that the record of revelation is divine. It is conceivable that the record should be so connected with the revelation that the one has genetically sprung from the other by a sort of physical necessity; so that the revelation being given, the record in its distinctive character follows as matter of course. It is conceivable, in other words, that the revelation should be energic to such an extent as to determine the very terms of the record. This however does not follow from the received doctrine of inspiration. Consistently with that doctrine the revelation and the record are not so connected by a bond of physical necessity God having given the revela tion direct from Himself might conceivably have left the record to be originated by simply human authorship. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Inspiration: Plenary and VerbalInspiration, on the other hand, cons1sts in that actu ating, controlling, and guiding influence of the Holy Spirit, under which God's chosen messengers spoke and wrote the original Scriptures. In short, it denotes that extraordinary divine influence, under the direction and control of which all parts of the original Scriptures were recorded, whether they be direct revelations or mere historical facts. So that the entire Bible and every part of it was written by Inspiration, and there fore is true.N ow, Inspiration pertains, not so much to the writers, as to their writings. Accordingly, says Paul: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profit able, etc. 2 Tim. Iii. 16. The meaning of this passage is the same, whether it be rendered, All Scripture is inspired by God (revised Version), or, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. In both, the apostle equally attests the fact that all Scripture is divinely inspired. Inspiration, therefore, is to be viewed rather in the Book, than in the men; the Book was inspired for all time, the men merely for the time being. Most of the errors on this subject have arisen from viewing inspiration in the writers, rather than in their writings.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Whether an entire agreement, in many Of the phases Of the ques tions involved, will ever be reached even by those who hold the writings Of the Bible to be the inspired Word Of God, may be adjourned to the decision Of the future. There are doubt less many discoveries yet to be made which will have important bearings on some Of the questions now under discussion. The last half century has been prolific in bringing to light many records Of long past ages, and the end is not yet. But, however that may be, there are clearly differences Of views among Christian scholars Of to-day, as to the nature and the extent of the inspiration Of the sacred Books which constitute our Bible. Book The Harmony of Divine Truth Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Harmony of Divine Truth Classic Reprint written by Seth Williston and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Harmony of Divine Truth How it can be accounted for, that the term truth should have been selected by the inspired writers, (or rather by the Spirit of inspiration.) to distinguish the religion which they exhibit, from every other system in the world, if at the same time they had considered it as a mere moral chaos, made for our plastic hands to mould and shape into such creeds as should please every man's own fancy? It is worthy to be noted that the sacred volume makes a very copious* use of this term, applying it to every department Of religion. For itself, as an inspired book, it claims the honor of being called the scripture of truth, and the word of truth. Dan. X. 21. Eph. I. 13. Is not the Bible thus manifestly distinguished from the Koran of the Mahometan's, and the Shasters of the Brahmins, and from every other book which sets up a claim to inspiration? The God of the Bible is called the true God, his beloved Son is called the true Witness, and his Holy Spirit the Spirit of truth and why, except to distinguish Jehovah from idols, his Son from false Christs, and the Holy Ghost from Satan, and every other lying spirit? The doctrines we are required to believe, are denominated the truth, to distinguish them from the doctrines of devils, and from delusive errors of every kind; and the belief of these doctrines, when it is wrought in our hearts by the Spirit of God, is said to be truth and no lie, to distinguish it from a false faith which does not work by love. Also, that conduct which is required by the divine law, and which is the external expression of a heart conformed to it, is called obeying the truth. 1 Tim. Ii. 4. 1 John ii. 27. 2 John 4. The church of the living God, when considered as a community, composed Of men redeemed from iniquity, is called the pillar and ground Of the truth. 1 Tim. Iii. 15. See also Isa. Xxvi. 2. What an importance does it give to religious truth when we hear Christ Jesus witnessing this good confession before Pontius Pilate! TO this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. John xviii. 37. Surely that must be a thing of no small consequence, the establishment of which was the end of our Redeemer's birth, and the sole cause why he came into the world. Book The Scripture Testimonies to the Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Scripture Testimonies to the Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Classic Reprint written by George Holden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Scripture Testimonies to the Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Convinced that a bare citation would be unsatis factory, it has been his wish, in the second place, to establish, by critical reasons, the texts adduced in proof of Christ's divinity. An appeal to the Bible in confirmation of a particular doctrine, is nugatory, unless it can be shewn that - such an appeal is warranted by a rational exposition of the sacred Volume. A superficialreference to the au thorized translation, may content those who think that true religion is best promoted by disseminatingthe Scriptures without note or comment; but, the judicious inq'uirer will exercise his reason upon the grounds of his faith, and will not assent to any article, except it be proved, by a critical examina tion, to rest upon the decisive authority of the in spired Writers. It is necessary, therefore, to evince that the passages appealed to in support of our Lord's divinity, are correctly referred to him, and that they do actually convey the meaning attributed to them. This, it is humbly conceived, may be accomplished by the exercise of a just and impartial criticism and in attempting this object, much assistance has been derived both from those who have professedly treated of the Trinity, and from the most celebrated commentators of our own and other countries.
