Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite having enjoyed almost universal assent by scholars up till now, Chris Hansen swims into practically uncharted waters to show that one of the most overlooked and inconspicuous New Testament writings may, in fact, be a forgery. In the first English language book to ever cover the subject of Philemon’s authenticity, Hansen provides a detailed historiographical overview of the problem, and raises challenging questions regarding the literary contents, themes, style, and intertextual relationships in Philemon. Hansen’s research and surprising conclusions will certainly be of interest to those unfamiliar with Philemon’s questionable history.

Book God Man And It Just Had to Be

Download or read book God Man And It Just Had to Be written by Dr. Tony G. Minyard and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-04-30 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book took some great thought to write, but And It Just Had to Be! is paramount to everything that Christianity stands for. The work of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection, is crucial to our faith. The key factor is the oneness of Christ in us. This book highlights the factor of what Christ really did for us to appease the wrath of God. The choice is freewill. The truth is we have been translated from darkness to light. We are all sinners saved by the grace of God, but we have to accept this gift to have eternal life. However, if you reject this gift, then the wrath of God is on you, my friend. There were elements that were very personal that happened during my rebellious years in unbelief, and it happens to many people. It's sad, but it does, right? Trust me, learn from my mistakes; please repent really quick. You don't know what the price is. I talk about surrender being the first step to accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. Salvation is a onetime event if it's genuine, but throughout your life, it's an everyday deal, the real one. Sometimes we ride the fence and think everything is A-OK, but it's not. Please have intimacy with God. He loves us very much. The Christian life ends when we're at the Judgment Seat of Christ. I hope no one appears at the Great White Throne Judgment. I covered many topics in this book to illustrate biblical concepts for you to grasp the truth. This is very serious stuff in the eyes of God. The purpose of this book is for you to make the right choice--repent or not. Remember, God believes in you. You might be in that rebellious life, but just surrender back to God.

Book Solitary

Download or read book Solitary written by Albert Woodfox and published by Grove Press. This book was released on 2019-03-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An uncommonly powerful memoir about four decades in confinement . . . A profound book about friendship [and] solitary confinement in the United States.” —New York Times Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award Solitary is the unforgettable life story of a man who served more than four decades in solitary confinement—in a 6-foot by 9-foot cell, twenty-three hours a day, in Louisiana’s notorious Angola prison—all for a crime he did not commit. That Albert Woodfox survived at all was a feat of extraordinary endurance. That he emerged whole from his odyssey within America’s prison and judicial systems is a triumph of the human spirit. While behind bars in his early twenties, Albert was inspired to join the Black Panther Party because of its social commitment and code of living. He was serving a fifty-year sentence in Angola for armed robbery when, on April 17, 1972, a white guard was killed. Albert and another member of the Panthers were accused of the crime and immediately put in solitary confinement. Without a shred of evidence against them, their trial was a sham of justice. Decades passed before Albert was finally released in February 2016. Sustained by the solidarity of two fellow Panthers, Albert turned his anger into activism and resistance. The Angola 3, as they became known, resolved never to be broken by the corruption that effectively held them for decades as political prisoners. Solitary is a clarion call to reform the inhumanity of solitary confinement in the United States and around the world.

Book Prisoners Inventions

Download or read book Prisoners Inventions written by Angelo (prisoner.) and published by Whitewalls. This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine that your house spans six by nine feet, your mattress is just two inches thick, you are known to your neighbors by an identification number, and items most consider crucial to everyday existence are outlawed. How do inmates in prisons like this throughout the United States make such lives bearable? In 2001, the artists' collective Temporary Services asked an incarcerated artist named Angelo to share with them the ways in which inmates adapt to their confinement. Angelo responded with over one hundred pages of meticulously detailed ink drawings and text. The resulting compilation, Prisoners' Inventions, is a unique guide to prison life, covering subjects ranging from how to cook a grilled cheese sandwich in a locker to how to chill a soda using a toilet. Many of the documented items--such as cigarette lighters, condoms, even alarm clocks--are considered contraband, and Angelo includes anecdotes describing their creation and use. Already featured in Playboy, Harper's, Le Monde, and on This American Life, Prisoners' Inventions provides powerful testimony to life "on the inside" as it is endured by over two million individuals in the United States alone.

Book Secrets from a Prison Cell

Download or read book Secrets from a Prison Cell written by Tony D. Vick and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tony Vick is serving two life sentences for murder. After nearly twenty years in prison, Tony has literally taken to the pen to document firsthand what life is like behind bars. This book--handwritten by Tony and later transcribed by outside friends--indirectly challenges the reader to engage prison reform as one of the most important social issues of this generation, wondering if society can shift its emphasis from retribution to rehabilitation. Tony's new book describes the violent, even horrific, incidents that occur in prison, incidents mostly hidden in the shadows, away from public awareness. It tells you the stories that those invested in incarceration would rather remain secret. As captivating as it is timely, Secrets from a Prison Cell shortens the distance between those outside and inside prison walls. Through personal stories, essays, and poetry, Tony Vick's book pulls back the curtain on a world invisible to most people, dramatically revealing the realities of life in prison and the power of love to fight dehumanization. For Tony, writing this book has never been about money but about the message. Any proceeds from sales of the book will be donated to the No Exceptions Prison Collective, a non-profit organization that advocates for prison reform. (https: //noexceptions.net) No Exception's mission is furthered by its very name, referencing the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that abolishes slavery, except for those incarcerated in our nation's prisons. Slavery still exists in America
