Book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal boron carbon silicon Systems Part 4 Thermochemical Calculations Volume 2 Thermodynamic Interpretation of Ternary Phase Diagrams

Download or read book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal boron carbon silicon Systems Part 4 Thermochemical Calculations Volume 2 Thermodynamic Interpretation of Ternary Phase Diagrams written by Erwin Rudy and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equilibrium conditions for two-phase and three-phase equilibria in ternary systems are derived from the minimum condition for the free energy, and special solutions are discussed on model examples. The predictive capabilities of the thermodynamic approach are demonstrated on a number of refractory carbide systems, and methods for the determination of phase stabilities from experimental phase equilibrium data are outlined. The thermodynamic discussions are supplemented by a general review of recent phase diagram work on refractory transition metal-B element systems.

Book TERNARY PHASE EQUILIBRIA IN TRANSITION METAL BORON CARBON SILICON SYSTEMS PART 4 THERMOCHEMICAL CALCULATIONS VOLUME 3 COMPUTATIONAL APPROACH TO THE CALCULATION OF TERNARY PHASE DIAGRAMS

Download or read book TERNARY PHASE EQUILIBRIA IN TRANSITION METAL BORON CARBON SILICON SYSTEMS PART 4 THERMOCHEMICAL CALCULATIONS VOLUME 3 COMPUTATIONAL APPROACH TO THE CALCULATION OF TERNARY PHASE DIAGRAMS written by and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general conditional equations which govern the phase equilibria in three-component systems are presented. Using the general conditional equations, a general method has been developed to precalculate the phase equilibria in three-component systems from first principle using computer technique. The method developed has been applied to several model examples and the system Ta-Hf-C. The phase equilibria in three-component systems calculated using the simplified method as originally developed by Rudy, agree well with those calculated by the present method. The only difference is in the homogeneous range with respect to the interstitial component of solid solutions which exhibit large variation with metal exchange. This is to be expected in view of the assumptions made in the simplified method.

This book was released on 1966 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ternary alloy system Ta-W-C has been investigated by means of X-rays, metallographic, melting point, and differentila-thermoanalytical techniques, and a complete phase diagram was established. Thermodynamic approaches for the interpretation and prediction of ternary alloy systems are briefly discussed and applied to the tantalumtungsten-carbon system. The thermodynamic data obtained from an evaluation of the system sections are compatible with previous values obtained from other carbide systems, and the calculated temperature sections and isopleths are in good agreement with the experimental observations. The results of this investigation are discussed and possible fields of applications outlined. (Author).

Book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal boron carbon silicon Systems Part I Binary Systems Volume Xii Revision of the Vanadium carbon and Niobium carbon Systems

Download or read book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal boron carbon silicon Systems Part I Binary Systems Volume Xii Revision of the Vanadium carbon and Niobium carbon Systems written by Erwin Rudy and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The binary systems vanadium-carbon and niobium-carbon were reinvestigated by means of X-ray, melting point, DTA, and metallographic techniques on chemically and thermally characterized specimens; revised phase diagrams for both binary systems are given. In addition, recent investigations have also shown that some of the intermediate phases exhibit a more complex thermal behavior than previously anticipated. Thus, for example, the thermodynamic evaluation of the equilibria in ternary metal-carbon systems pointed to the existence of sublattice order-disorder transformations in the Me2C phases. These indications have, in the meantime, been confirmed experimentally by X ray and differential-thermoanalytical means.

Book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal Boron Carbon Silicon Systems Part 2 Ternary Systems Volume 12 Ti Zr B System Investigation of Pseudo Binary Systems ZrB2 NbB2 ZrB2 TaB2 and HfB2 NbB2

Download or read book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal Boron Carbon Silicon Systems Part 2 Ternary Systems Volume 12 Ti Zr B System Investigation of Pseudo Binary Systems ZrB2 NbB2 ZrB2 TaB2 and HfB2 NbB2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ternary system titanium-zirconium-boron was investigated from 1000C to 3245C, the melting temperature of zirconium diboride. The equilibria which exist have been determined except for the boron-rich equilibria which have been estimated. The following notable features were found: minimum melting occurs in the titanium rich corner of the ternary; a four-phase reaction involving Beta-metal phase, monoboride, diboride, and liquid occurs at a temperature slightly higher than theminimum melting; zirconium exchanges with titanium in titanium monoboride to about 9 At. % zirconium; and the metal diborides form a continuos series of solid solutions. No ternary compounds were found. The techniques used in the investigation were X-ray analysis, melting point determination, and metallographic examination. Lattice parameter plots of the pseudo-binary systems ZrB2-NbB2, ZrB2-TaB2, and HfB2-NbB2 indicate that in each of these systems the diborides form a continuous series of solid solutions. Melting point temperatures for these systems have been determined.

Book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal boron carbon Silicon Systems Part Ii Ternary Systems Volume Xv Constitution of Niobium molybdenum carbon Alloys

Download or read book Ternary Phase Equilibria in Transition Metal boron carbon Silicon Systems Part Ii Ternary Systems Volume Xv Constitution of Niobium molybdenum carbon Alloys written by Erwin Rudy and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ternary alloy system niobium-molybdenum-carbon was investigated by means of X-ray, melting point, DTA, and metallographic techniques; a complete phase diagram for temperatures above 1500 C was established. Above 1960 C, niobium monocarbide and the cubic (B1) high temperature phase in the molybdenum-carbon system form and uninterrupted series of solid solutions. Six isothermal reactions occur in the ternary system; three correspond to class II-type four-phase reactions involving a liquid phase, one to a class I (eutectoid)-type, and two further isotherms are associated with limiting tie lines. The results of the phase diagram investigation are discussed, and the thermodynamic interpretation identifies the low relative stability of the binary subcarbides in conjunction with the large stability differences between niobium and molybdenum carbides as the cause for the formation of a stable equilibrium between the monocarbide and the metal phase in the ternary region.
