Book excerpt: TEQC83 covers the proceedings of the International Conference on the Testing, Evaluation, and Quality Control of composite materials. The 31 papers included in the book cover topics within the general areas of mechanical testing, materials characterization, non-destructive testing, quality assurance and structural analysis, and environmental testing. Experimental techniques for measuring fiber/matrix interfacial bond shear strength; prediction of notch-tip energy absorption in composite laminates; an X-ray radiography study of delamination growth in notched carbon/epoxy laminates; and quality assurance in a production environment are examples of papers included in the book. The book also presents topics, such as influence of processing on the water aging of unsaturated polyester-based composites; the determination of interlaminar fracture toughness and fracture mode dependence of composites using the edge delamination test; and pattern recognition in ultrasonic testing of fiber reinforced plastics. Design engineers will find this book helpful.

Book Composites Evaluation

Download or read book Composites Evaluation written by J. Herriot and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composites Evaluation contains the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Testing, Evaluation and Quality Control of Composites-TEQC 87, held at the University of Surrey, UK on September 22-24, 1987. The papers review the physical and chemical properties of composites and the testing and evaluation of these materials. This monograph is comprised of 29 chapters split into nine sections, organized around the themes of nondestructive testing, fatigue testing, impact testing, processing-property relationships, acoustic emission, fracture, mechanical tests, and specialized test equipment and assessment of in-service behavior. The first chapter deals with the nondestructive testing of welds in continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics, while the second focuses on the use of an automated coin-tap technique for the nondestructive testing of composite structures. The chapters that follow explore hysteresis measurement for obtaining characteristic quantities during dynamic fatigue; real-time recording of impact experiments on composite laminates; the use of statistical methods for determining design data for advanced composite materials; and the strain dependence of elastic modulus in unidirectional composites. The final chapter describes a methodical approach for studying and predicting polymer fiber composite serviceability influenced by cold climate factors. This text will appeal to mechanical and structural engineers as well as materials scientists and technologists.

Book High Performance Polymer Fibres

Download or read book High Performance Polymer Fibres written by P. R. Lewis and published by iSmithers Rapra Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Lewis reviews the theory development and uses of high performance polymer fibres. He describes their manufacture, and compares the properties of different polymers. Applications of different materials are described, together with their advantages and limitations. His review is complemented by the addition of a fully indexed set of references and abstracts selected from the Polymer Library database. These provide further reading on the technology and uses of high performance polymers.

Download or read book Nontraditional Methods of Sensing Stress Strain and Damage in Materials and Structures written by David A. Stubbs and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1997 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These facsimiles of 16 contributions from the symposium held in May 1996 in Orlando provide information on the behavior of materials and structures. The authors describe novel ways to measure point to point deformation (or strain, when normalized), procedures for measuring crack length and the stres

Book Fracture Failure Analysis of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites

Download or read book Fracture Failure Analysis of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites written by Sanjay Mavinkere Rangappa and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-19 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a unified approach to fracture behavior of natural and synthetic fiber-reinforced polymer composites on the basis of fiber orientation, the addition of fillers, characterization, properties and applications. In addition, the book contains an extensive survey of recent improvements in the research and development of fracture analysis of FRP composites that are used to make higher fracture toughness composites in various applications. The FRP composites are an emerging area in polymer science with many structural applications. The rise in materials failure by fracture has forced scientists and researchers to develop new higher strength materials for obtaining higher fracture toughness. Therefore, further knowledge and insight into the different modes of fracture behavior of FRP composites are critical to expanding the range of their application.
