Book Experimental and Analytical Study of Slurry Infiltrated Mat Concrete SIMCON Tension Members

This book was released on 1997 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The strength and ductility of slurry infiltrated mat concrete (SIMCON) tension members were investigated by conducting both monotonic and cyclic tests. An analytical model was developed for simulating tensile force-displacement relations and optimizing the fabrication of SIMCON tension members. The stress-strain data of monotonic and cyclic tension tests indicated that SIMCON tensile response was characterized by three regimes: (i) quasi-elastic, (ii) nonlinear hardening, and (iii) softening. In the quasi-elastic regime only minute stiffness reduction was observed. The nonlinear hardening regime was characterized by internal damage in the form of planar partial cracks. The softening regime was characterized by localized failure of bridging fibers. In order to experimentally determine the interaction between steel fibers and the cement matrix near an opening crack, micromechanics-based tests were conducted on two sets of preset-crack specimens: (i) with symmetrically inclined fibers and (ii) with aligned fibers having variable debonded lengths on each side of the crack. By measuring the bridging forces of inclined fibers in the first set of tests, an efficiency factor of plane random fibers, compared to aligned fibers, was determined to be approximately 0.58. From the second set of tests, it was found that the ductility of SIMCON mainly comes from plastic deformation of debonded steel fibers rather than pull-out of bridging fibers. A mixture bond model that incorporated fiber plastic deformation was developed to simulate the bond interaction between SIMCON fibers and cement matrix. Statistical distribution of fiber failure stresses and strains was examined by conducting tension tests on randomly sampled SIMCON fibers. With the mixture bond model, the maximum stress of SIMCON was accurately predicted by incorporating the statistical distribution of fiber failure stresses and strains. A cyclic tension test was conducted on SIMCON specimen to characterize damage evolution based upon the experimentally obtained stiffness reduction during unloading. Using the stiffness reduction with increasing plastic strains, a phenomenological plastic damage model was developed to simulate the cyclic response of SIMCON tension members. The entire stress-strain relation of SIMCON tension members was predicted by combining the phenomenological plastic damage model with the mixture bond model.

Book High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cement Composites 6

Download or read book High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cement Composites 6 written by Gustavo J. Parra-Montesinos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-28 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cement Composites (HPFRCC) represent a class of cement composites whose stress-strain response in tension undergoes strain hardening behaviour accompanied by multiple cracking, leading to a high strain prior to failure. The primary objective of this International Workshop was to provide a compendium of up-to-date information on the most recent developments and research advances in the field of High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cement Composites. Approximately 65 contributions from leading world experts are assembled in these proceedings and provide an authoritative perspective on the subject. Special topics include fresh and hardening state properties; self-compacting mixtures; mechanical behavior under compressive, tensile, and shear loading; structural applications; impact, earthquake and fire resistance; durability issues; ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete; and textile reinforced concrete. Target readers: graduate students, researchers, fiber producers, design engineers, material scientists.

Book Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composites Second Edition

Download or read book Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composites Second Edition written by Arnon Bentur and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-11-22 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced cementitious composites can be designed to have outstanding combinations of strength (five to ten times that of conventional concrete) and energy absorption capacity (up to 1000 times that of plain concrete). This second edition brings together in one volume the latest research developments in this rapidly expanding area. The book is split into two parts. The first part is concerned with the mechanics of fibre reinforced brittle matrices and the implications for cementitious systems. In the second part the authors describe the various types of fibre-cement composites, discussing production processes, mechanical and physical properties, durability and applications. Two new chapters have been added, covering fibre specification and structural applications. Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composites will be of great interest to practitioners involved in modern concrete technology and will also be of use to academics, researchers and graduate students.

Book High performance Construction Materials Science And Applications

Download or read book High performance Construction Materials Science And Applications written by Caijun Shi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008-06-11 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a number of high-performance construction materials, including concrete, steel, fiber-reinforced cement, fiber-reinforced plastics, polymeric materials, geosynthetics, masonry materials and coatings. It discusses the scientific bases for the manufacture and use of these high-performance materials. Testing and application examples are also included, in particular the application of relatively new high-performance construction materials to design practice. Most books dealing with construction materials typically address traditional materials only rather than high-performance materials and, as a consequence, do not satisfy the increasing demands of today's society. On the other hand, books dealing with materials science are not engineering-oriented, with limited coverage of the application to engineering practice. This book is thus unique in reflecting the great advances made on high-performance construction materials in recent years. This book is appropriate for use as a textbook for courses in engineering materials, structural materials and civil engineering materials at the senior undergraduate and graduate levels. It is also suitable for use by practice engineers, including construction, materials, mechanical and civil engineers.
