Book Heart Rate As a Marker of Training Status

Download or read book Heart Rate As a Marker of Training Status written by Miriam Rosemary Sinclair and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart rate monitoring are being used on a daily basis by both athletes and coaches alike to monitor changes in training status (fitness levels) and for exercise prescription. Monitoring heart rate is an easy, inexpensive, practical and accurate method to use. However, the interpretation of heart rate data is still incomplete and there are many factors or variables that may affect the heart rate / workload relationship. This book aimed to further clarify the heart rate / workload relationship under differing conditions to determine if measuring heart rate under these conditions would be sufficiently precise to track changes in fitness levels. Testing took place under well-controlled vs. field testing conditions, controlled vs. uncontrolled training, changed vs. unchanged training status and average vs. elite athletes over varying periods. This book will be useful to any athlete and coach, whether elite or not, who are simply interested in knowing more about the interpretation of heart rate data and the many factors that may influence the accurate interpretation of collected heart rate data.

Download or read book Heart Rate Variability written by Jeff Podeszwa and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explores research on the autonomic nervous system (ANS), particularly the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), and its relation to injury. Heart rate variability (HRV), or the beat-to-beat alterations of an individual's heart rate can quantify the body's physiologic response to chronic physical activity. High Frequency (HF) and low frequency (LF) heart rate variability, as well as , pre-ejection period (PEP) of the heart, and Root Mean Square of the Standard Deviation (RMSSD) were recorded and analyzed to calculate heart rate variability. The hypothesis tested was that physically active individuals would have higher parasympathetic and lower sympathetic activation at rest, which would be associated with a reduced risk for injury during physical exercise. Measurement instruments included the Vivometrics LifeShirt© ambulatory physiologic monitoring system and VivoLogic Software (Version 3.2) for the determination of heart rate variability. Data collection equipment was worn by each subject at rest in a controlled environment. The results demonstrated that physically active individuals participating in athletics and performing arts, with lower resting values of RMSSD, reported a significantly higher number of injuries. RMSSD explained 3.8% of the variance in injury occurrence. The application of this finding has yet to be investigated, however is suggestive of at least a minor role of heart rate variability in injury incidence. The use of heart rate variability monitoring during athletic training and competition has not been well elucidated. Heart rate variability monitors are non-invasive, and with advances in technology, can be worn by athletes easily, without interference of athletic ability. Further research is needed and should be geared toward the investigation of the utility of heart rate variability assessment in monitoring the physiologic function in athletes. Heart rate variability assessment may provide information regarding injury risk.

Book excerpt: It has long been known that almost all elite athletes use imagery and that most sport psychologists apply imagery in working with athletes. But most material on the subject has been, to this point, relegated to single chapters in books, to journal articles, or to conference proceedings. Now Imagery in Sport addresses the breadth of what researchers and practitioners in sport psychology know about the topic, and it treats each issue in depth, considering current theories and research on imagery and its application in sport. The reference also addresses future directions in research and practice for imagery in sport. In doing so, Imagery in Sport provides the most comprehensive look at the state of imagery and its uses in sport today. The authors take readers step by step through understanding, investigating, applying, and advancing imagery in sport. The text includes the following: -Sample scripts, preperformance suggestions, and sport-specific and site-specific tips -Presentation and critical analysis of 10 well-known theoretical frameworks for understanding imagery -A full chapter devoted to understanding and successfully using the available measures of imagery in sport, including how to administer imagery-ability measures Imagery in Sport takes complex theories and presents them clearly, using examples from everyday sport contexts. The book helps readers become familiar with the current knowledge about the topic and learn to view it with a critical eye. And it provides practicing sport psychologists with guidelines and strategies for using imagery to help athletes improve their performances.

Book Developing an Improved Heart Rate Monitor with Work Out Training Android Application and Real Time Audio Coaching

Download or read book Developing an Improved Heart Rate Monitor with Work Out Training Android Application and Real Time Audio Coaching written by Perlie John Dy and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TechnoHeart is a digital way of monitoring heart rate using a Heart Rate Monitor device and an android phone. Moreover, this is made more special through its work-out training which is designed to help users set and achieve their target heart rate and monitor at what training intensity they are during a strenuous exercise. The training is made more interactive as the application has its real-time audio coaching. The need for this application comes from three sources; First, some athletes, non-athletes and even doctors are still using the traditional way of getting the heart rate; Second, training intensity is not monitored and target heart rate is not achieved; Third, most mobile developments do not tailor the need of users who undergo work-out training. With the following needs, objectives were set; First, to connect an HRM (Heart Rate Monitoring) device to an android mobile device and display individual's heart rate in digital form through mobile; Second, to create a work-out training program using the Karvonen Formula; Third, to enable users know one's target heart rate by using a Karvonen calculator; Fourth, to notify users in real time with every sudden change and the needed action in order to keep an effective training exercise. The project is to explore this and other similar concepts to develop a design that optimally satisfies all of these objectives. The project addresses all of these objectives while meeting the constraints given. The project was deployed in three different sets of users: The University of Mindanao Athletes, The elderly users aging from 50-80 years old and the other users aging from 12-49 years old. The researchers recommend the use of TechnoHeart for athletes and non-athletes who are aiming for an effective cardiovascular training. And for the next researchers, they can focus on the compatibility of the said application to other mobile platforms like iOS, Blackberry, Windows and etc. And also, they may upload application in the internet such as in social networking sites or any features that would make this project more usable.

Book Multidirectional Speed in Sport

Download or read book Multidirectional Speed in Sport written by Paul A. Jones and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During field- and court-based sports, players are continually required to perceive their environment within a match and select and perform the most appropriate action to achieve their immediate goal within that match instance. This ability is commonly known as agility, considered a vital quality in such sports and may incorporate a variety of locomotion and instantaneous actions. Multidirectional speed is a global term to describe the competency and capacity to perform such actions: accelerate, decelerate, change direction, and ultimately maintain speed in multiple directions and movements within the context of sports-specific scenarios, encompassing agility, speed, and many other related qualities. Multidirectional speed in sport depends on a multitude of factors, including perceptual-cognitive abilities, physical qualities, and the technical ability to perform the previously mentioned actions. Multidirectional Speed in Sport: Research to Application reviews the science of multidirectional speed and translates this information into real-world application in order to provide a resource for practitioners to develop multidirectional speed with athletes, bringing together knowledge from a wealth of world-leading researchers and applied practitioners in the area of speed and agility to provide a complete resource to assist practitioners in designing effective multidirectional speed development programmes. This text is critical reading for undergraduate and graduate sports science students, all individuals involved in training athletes (e.g. coaches, physiotherapists, athletic trainers), and researchers in the field of sports science and sports medicine.
