Book Development of Telecommunications Infrastructure and Policy in Thailand

Download or read book Development of Telecommunications Infrastructure and Policy in Thailand written by Monsinee Keeratikrainon and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Different nations experience different issues and concerns in privatizing their telecommunications systems. This book demonstrates the problems Thailand facing in the attempts to deregulate its telecommunications services. As more people began to demand the telecommunications reform to make the industry more competitive, the Ministry of Transport and Communications started formulating "Telecommunications Development Master Plan," which was the first official plan to restructure the telecommunications industry, and presented it to the cabinet in March of 1995. The challenges the Telecommunications Development Master Plan has been facing are not only from the public scrutiny and the inexperience of the policy makers but also from sudden political changes that happen so often that they delay the process of implementing the plan. This book reveals an interesting case study in telecommunications reform while underlying key events in the history of Thailand. It makes a good reference for academic scholars as well as policy setters in any country.

Book The Political Economy of Telecommunicatons Reforms in Thailand

Download or read book The Political Economy of Telecommunicatons Reforms in Thailand written by Sakkarin Niyomsilpa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the changing character of state-society relations in contemporary Thailand, using the telecommunications industry as a case study. It examines the privatization and gradual reforms of the 1980s and 1990s and the political dynamics behind these policies, as well as conflicts and co-operation among the various players and their interests. The book also covers bureaucratic and political corruption and their implications for Thailand's political democratization and economic liberalization. It argues not only that the bureaucracy is no longer the dominant power in Thai politics, but also that the country has moved towards a more pluralistic socio-political system in which a broadly-based liberalization coalition has emerged.

Book Telecommunications Reform in the Asia Pacific Region

Download or read book Telecommunications Reform in the Asia Pacific Region written by Allan Brown and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2005-02-24 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to draw lessons from the experiences of developed as well as developing countries in carrying out telecommunications reform. Contributors come from academia, as well as from stakeholders in telecommunications policy in a dozen countries, mostly in the Asia-Pacific region. Globally, the telecommunications industry is undergoing major changes: technological advances in the form of a vast number of new digitised services, ownership shifts as state-owned carriers in many countries become fully or partly privatized, and a general transition from monopolistic to more competitive market environments. The economic and regulatory experiences derived from these changes are explored and analyzed using the USA, the UK, Australia and Singapore to represent developed and newly industrialized countries, and China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam as examples of developing countries. The conclusions outlined in this timely volume hold important lessons for these as well as for other countries.

Book Priorities and Pathways in Services Reform

Download or read book Priorities and Pathways in Services Reform written by Christopher Findlay and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Services markets remain highly regulated and international trade and investment is restricted. Previous works have identified the scope for significant gains from trade, yet those results are often debated and the progress on reform has been slow. Parts I and II in Priorities and Pathways in Services Reform help fill the gap in the research around this debate. Part I OCo Quantitative Studies contains up-to-date assessment and evaluations of the impact of policy in a range of services markets in different countries (through cross-country modelling of the impacts of a reform program). Part II OCo Political Economy Studies builds on this to address the understanding of what makes a reform successful, going beyond a quantification of the benefits of reform. This book fills that gap by reporting and reviewing the experience of reform across different sectors and countries. Ten key lessons are identified for successful reform. Readers will find fresh insights into managing complex issues in services reform."

Book Virtual Thailand

Download or read book Virtual Thailand written by Glen Lewis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-05-07 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an established expert on Thailand, this is one of the first books to fully investigate the Thai media’s role during the Thaksin government’s first term. Incorporating political economy and media theory, the book provides a unique insight into globalization in Southeast Asia, analyzing the role of communications and media in regional cultural politics. Examining the period from the mid 1990s, Lewis makes a sustained comparison between Thailand and its neighbouring countries in relation to the media, business, politics and popular culture. Covering issues including business development, tourism, the Thai movie industry and the war on terror, the book argues that globalization as it relates to media, can be patterned on Thai experiences.

Book The Constitutional System of Thailand

Download or read book The Constitutional System of Thailand written by Andrew Harding and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04-28 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book assesses the attempt to establish a modern system of democratic government in Thailand against the background of Thai politics and culture. The fact that since 1932, when it became a constitutional monarchy, Thailand has had 18 constitutions speaks of an unstable political system which has seen rapid and repeated fluctuations between military rule and elected government. The main focus of this study is a critical discussion of the institutional frameworks which have been established under recent constitutions. Individual chapters deal with: Thai history and context, including the role of the monarchy and the military, and of constitutional drafting processes; parliament and elections; the executive branch of government, including the role of ministers, the civil service, of a contracting state and of anti-corruption initiatives; the structure and challenges of local government, including discussion of the southern insurgency; the Constitutional Court and constitutional enforcement; the constitutional role of administrative law and of the administrative courts; the constitutional protection of human rights, with freedom of speech as a particular case study.
