The study reported in this paper by the Canadian Auto Workers union used a survey, case studies, and roundtables at seven auto industry plants in Canada to define what is happening in the workplace in terms of technological change. Extensive use of quotations from these sources is made throughout the report. The report is composed of six chapters that cover the following issues: (1) the new technology; (2) disappearing jobs; (3) transformation of work; (4) the new management agenda; (5) labor and technological change; and (6) policy implications for labor.
