This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 1045 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most methodical treatments of electromagnetic wave propagation, radiation, and scattering—including new applications and ideas Presented in two parts, this book takes an analytical approach on the subject and emphasizes new ideas and applications used today. Part one covers fundamentals of electromagnetic wave propagation, radiation, and scattering. It provides ample end-of-chapter problems and offers a 90-page solution manual to help readers check and comprehend their work. The second part of the book explores up-to-date applications of electromagnetic waves—including radiometry, geophysical remote sensing and imaging, and biomedical and signal processing applications. Written by a world renowned authority in the field of electromagnetic research, this new edition of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation, Radiation, and Scattering: From Fundamentals to Applications presents detailed applications with useful appendices, including mathematical formulas, Airy function, Abel’s equation, Hilbert transform, and Riemann surfaces. The book also features newly revised material that focuses on the following topics: Statistical wave theories—which have been extensively applied to topics such as geophysical remote sensing, bio-electromagnetics, bio-optics, and bio-ultrasound imaging Integration of several distinct yet related disciplines, such as statistical wave theories, communications, signal processing, and time reversal imaging New phenomena of multiple scattering, such as coherent scattering and memory effects Multiphysics applications that combine theories for different physical phenomena, such as seismic coda waves, stochastic wave theory, heat diffusion, and temperature rise in biological and other media Metamaterials and solitons in optical fibers, nonlinear phenomena, and porous media Primarily a textbook for graduate courses in electrical engineering, Electromagnetic Wave Propagation, Radiation, and Scattering is also ideal for graduate students in bioengineering, geophysics, ocean engineering, and geophysical remote sensing. The book is also a useful reference for engineers and scientists working in fields such as geophysical remote sensing, bio–medical engineering in optics and ultrasound, and new materials and integration with signal processing.

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Linear and Nonlinear Periodic Media written by Francesco Romeo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waves and defect modes in structures media.- Piezoelectric superlattices and shunted periodic arrays as tunable periodic structures and metamaterials.- Topology optimization.- Map-based approaches for periodic structures.- Methodologies for nonlinear periodic media. The contributions in this volume present both the theoretical background and an overview of the state-of-the art in wave propagation in linear and nonlinear periodic media in a consistent format. They combine the material issued from a variety of engineering applications, spanning a wide range of length scale, characterized by structures and materials, both man-made and naturally occurring, featuring geometry, micro-structural and/or materials properties that vary periodically in space, including periodically stiffened plates, shells and beam-like as well as bladed disc assemblies, phononic metamaterials, photonic crystals and ordered granular media. Along with linear models and applications, analytical methodologies for analyzing and exploiting complex dynamical phenomena arising in nonlinear periodic systems are also presented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on more than 30 years of research on differential theories of gratings, this book describes developments in differential theory for applications in spectroscopy, acoustics, X-ray instrumentation, optical communication, information processing, photolithography, high-power lasers, high-precision engineering, and astronomy. Introducing the Fast Fourier Factorization approach to improve the convergence of a truncated series, the book examines multilayers, stacked gratings, crossed gratings, photonic crystals, and isotropic and anisotropic materials; techniques and examples in grating design; and Maxwell equations in a truncated Fourier space.
Download or read book Advances In Surface Acoustic Wave Technology Systems Applications Vol 2 written by Tor A Fjeldly and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-01-31 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are recognized for their versatility and efficiency in controlling and processing electrical signals. This has resulted in a multitude of device concepts for a wide range of signal processing functions, such as delay lines, filters, resonators, pulse compressors, convolvers, and many more. As SAW technology has found its way into mass market products such as TV receivers, pagers, keyless entry systems and cellular phones, the production volume has risen to millions of devices produced every day. At the other end of the scale, these are specialized high performance signal processing SAW devices for satellite communication and military applications, such as radar and electronic warfare. This volume, together with Volume 1, presents an overview of recent advances in SAW technology, systems and applications by some of the foremost researchers in this exciting field.

Download or read book Analysis of Periodically Time Varying Systems written by John A. Richards and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the practical techniques developed for treating systems described by periodic differential equations have arisen in different fields of application; con sequently some procedures have not always been known to workers in areas that might benefit substantially from them. Furthermore, recent analytical methods are computationally based so that it now seems an opportune time for an applications-oriented book to be made available that, in a sense, bridges the fields in which equations with periodic coefficients arise and which draws together analytical methods that are implemented readily. This book seeks to ftll that role, from a user's and not a theoretician's view. The complexities of periodic systems often demand a computational approach. Matrix treatments therefore are emphasized here although algebraic methods have been included where they are useful in their own right or where they establish properties that can be exploited by the matrix approach. The matrix development given calls upon the nomenclature and treatment of H. D'Angelo, Linear Time Varying Systems: Analysis and Synthesis (Boston: Allyn and Bacon 1970) which deals with time-varying systems in general. It is recommended for its modernity and comprehensive approach to systems analysis by matrix methods. Since the present work is applications-oriented no attempt has been made to be complete theoretically by way of presenting all proofs, existence theorems and so on. These can be found in D'Angelo and classic and well-developed treatises such as McLachlan, N. W. : Theory and application of Mathieu functions.

Download or read book The Topology of 4 Manifolds written by Robion C. Kirby and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the classical theorems about simply connected smooth 4-manifolds: intersection forms and homotopy type, oriented and spin bordism, the index theorem, Wall's diffeomorphisms and h-cobordism, and Rohlin's theorem. Most of the proofs are new or are returbishings of post proofs; all are geometric and make us of handlebody theory. There is a new proof of Rohlin's theorem using spin structures. There is an introduction to Casson handles and Freedman's work including a chapter of unpublished proofs on exotic R4's. The reader needs an understanding of smooth manifolds and characteristic classes in low dimensions. The book should be useful to beginning researchers in 4-manifolds.
