Book The Development of Technical and Vocational Education in Bangladesh

Download or read book The Development of Technical and Vocational Education in Bangladesh written by A. Rafique and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Council for Skill Development and Training and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) determine the technical vocational education and training (TVET) policy guidelines and implementation strategies. The TVET programs run by the government agencies, nongovernmental agencies, and private institutions are nonstandard and nonformal except for the vocational training institutes and technical training centers. The TVET system is quite inadequate to meet the internal job market and overseas employment demand for skilled workers. The National Skill Standard (NSS) classification is not in operation in the job market. The main thrust of TVET reform is the introduction of NSS both in the job market and in the training institutions. Significant issues that require attention are as follows: (1) a large-scale unmet demand for skilled labor in the internal job market and for overseas employment warrants strengthening of TVET facilities; (2) NSS classification should be established and put into operation in the internal job market and for overseas employment; and (3) the TVET system should be articulated with the general stream of education. (Appendixes include the NSS classification, and tables detailing gross domestic product and employment and demand for skilled workers. Contains 18 references.) (YLB)

Book Vocational Education and Training in Times of Economic Crisis

Download or read book Vocational Education and Training in Times of Economic Crisis written by Matthias Pilz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-20 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a broad range of approaches and methodologies relevant to international comparative vocational education and training (VET). Revealing how youth in transition is affected by economic crises, it provides essential insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the various systems and prospects of VET in contexts ranging from North America to Europe, (e.g. Spain, Germany or the UK) to Asia (such as China, Thailand and India). Though each country examined in this volume is affected by the economic crisis in a different way, the effects are especially apparent for the young generation. In many countries the youth unemployment rate is still very high and the job perspectives for young people are often limited at best. The contributions in this volume demonstrate that VET alone cannot solve these problems, but can be used to support a smooth transition from school to work. If the quality of VET is high and the status and job expectations are good, VET can help to fill the skills gap, especially at the intermediate skill level. Furthermore, VET can also offer a realistic alternative to the university track for young people in many countries.

Book The Future of Technology Education

Download or read book The Future of Technology Education written by P John Williams and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-five years ago there was increasing optimism in policy, curriculum and research about the contribution that technology education might make to increased technological literacy in schools and the wider population. That optimism continues, although the status of technology as a learning area remains fragile in many places. This edited book is offered as a platform from which to continue discussions about how technology education might progress into the future, and how the potential of technology education to be truly relevant and valued in school learning can be achieved. The book results from a collaboration between leading academics in the field, the wider group of authors having had input into each of the chapters. Through the development of a deep understanding of technology, based on a thoughtful philosophy, pathways are discussed to facilitate student learning opportunities in technology education. Consideration is given to the purpose(s) of technology education and how this plays out in curriculum, pedagogies, and assessment. Key dimensions, including design, critique, students’ cultural capital are also explored, as are the role and place of political persuasion, professional organisations, and research that connects with practice. The discussion in the book leads to a conclusion that technology education has both an ethical and moral responsibility to support imaginings that sustain people and communities in harmony and for the well being of the broader ecological and social environment.

The latest publication, entitled Unleashing the Potential: Transforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training is focused entirely on issues related to technical and vocational education and training (TVET). It takes stock of the steadily increasing demands and expectations on TVET systems around the globe and presents recent policy trends in the field of TVET. In their analysis, the authors provide insights into what it takes to unleash the potential of TVET systems around the world. They propose an integrated analytical approach that takes into consideration such factors as economic growth, social equity and issues related to sustainability so that TVET can contribute more effectively to contemporary policy issues such as youth unemployment, gender disparities and climate change. Overall, the book calls for a transformation of TVET systems to enable them to respond to the demands of their contexts. This transformation should enable TVET systems to acquire agility to stay current and responsive to the rapidly changing demands of the twenty-first century."--Publisher's website.

Book Making it tangible Learning outcomes in science education

Download or read book Making it tangible Learning outcomes in science education written by Sascha Bernholt and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2012 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the central features in current educational reforms is a focus on learning outcomes. Many countries have established or revised standards to describe what teachers are supposed to teach and students are expected to learn. More recently, the emphasis has shifted to considerations of how standards can be operationalized in order to make the outcomes of educational efforts more tangible. This book is the result of a symposium held in Kiel, that was arranged by two science education groups, one at the IPN (Leibniz-Institute for Science and Mathematics Education at the University of Kiel) in Germany and the other at the University of York, UK. The seminar brought together renowned experts from 12 countries with different notions of the nature and quality of learning outcomes. The aim was to clarify central conceptions and approaches for a better understanding among the international science education community. The book is divided into five parts. In Part A, the organizers set the scene, describing the rationale for arranging the symposium. Part B provides a broad overview about different approaches, challenges, and pitfalls on the road to the clarification of meaningful and fruitful learning outcomes. The set of papers in Part C provides deep insights into different, although comparable approaches which aim to frame, to assess, and to promote learning and learning outcomes in science education. Smaller projects are presented as well as broad, coordinated national programs. The papers in Part D outline the individual historical development from different national perspectives, reflecting the deficits and problems that led to current reforms. Finally, a summary of the organizers analyses the conclusions from different vantage points.

Book Planning for Technical and Vocational Skills Development

Download or read book Planning for Technical and Vocational Skills Development written by Kenneth King and published by United Nations Education, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2010 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The position of skills development on the agenda of policy-makers and development agencies improved markedly around the turn of the 21st century. This book tracks the ways skills have gained importance both in the developing and the more industrialized world. It analyses critically the multiple ’drivers' of skills development and the linkages of skills to the knowledge economy, growth, and employment in an increasingly competitive world. It also acknowledges the many modalities and delivery systems for skills development, arguing that this institutional diversity, often spread across several ministries and training authorities, has made it more difficult to give a national account of the skills development sector. The re-emergence of skills has triggered many reform initiatives associated with TVSD, some of which have become almost ’fashions' and are in danger of being adopted without sufficient evidence of their effectiveness. This work provides cautionary advice and fresh insights that planners will find rewarding.
