Book Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling TPRS

Download or read book Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling TPRS written by Karen Lichtman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-12 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This module introduces Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS), an input-based language teaching method. TPRS provides a framework for teaching classes completely in the target language—even those at the beginner level. Through the steps of establishing meaning, creating a story that is acted out live in class, and reading, students understand and use the target language to communicate right away. Research shows that over time TPRS creates fluent speakers who excel both on traditional tests and—more importantly—in real-life situations. This is a valuable resource on TPRS for world language teachers, language teacher educators, and second language researchers.

This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If teachers want to create positive change in the lives of their students, then they must first be able to create positive change in their own lives. This book describes a powerful professional development approach that merges the scholarship of critical pedagogy with the Theatre of the Oppressed. Participants "act up" in order to explore real-life scenarios and rehearse difficult conversations they are likely to have with colleagues, students, administrators, and parents. The authors have practiced the theatrical strategies presented here with pre- and in-service teachers in numerous contexts, including college courses, professional development seminars, and PreK–12 classrooms. They include step-by-step instructions with vivid photographs to help readers use these revolutionary theatre strategies in their own contexts for a truly unique learning experience.

Book Teachers Experiences with the Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling Tprs Method of Language Instruction

Download or read book Teachers Experiences with the Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling Tprs Method of Language Instruction written by Richard J. Baker Ed D. and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Richard Baker's (2017) dissertation study. Baker found 16 common experiences lived by TPRS teachers, 12 obstacles to overcome, and he made 4 recommendations for teachers to consider in their classrooms. His Chapter 2 includes an extensive and critical review of many related research studies done on this methodological approach. TPRS is a research-based, evidence-based, and research-validated method. It has been found effective for promoting classroom second language acquisition (SLA) in a variety educational contexts, for learning several different languages, and from pre-literate, to K-12, with gifted and special needs students, at the university, and with adult learners at every level of language teaching and proficiency. The data suggest that educators and administrators should 'support' and not block TPRS use. Baker believes educational leaders, once aware of the research, will support, and 'not resist' TPRS teachers.
