Book excerpt: The National Marine Chemical Spill Contingency Plan (ChemPlan) outlines how the combined resources of the Commonwealth, State/NT Governments, the chemical, plastics, petroleum, and shipping industries may be activated to respond to the threat posed to Australia, its people and its marine environment, by spillages of bulk or packaged dangerous goods and chemical spills from vessels. It prescribes procedures and provides information required to implement the chemical spill response provisions of the National Plan and relevant State/NT contingency plans. Under the terms of the IGA, AMSA is responsible for maintaining ChemPlan. The Plan follows the general procedures of the National Marine Oil Spill Contingency Plan taking account of the land-based chemical and hazardous materials response capabilities of fire services, industry and government authorities.

Book Marine Pollution Contingency Planning

Download or read book Marine Pollution Contingency Planning written by Anastasia Telesetsky and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an ever-present threat of catastrophic marine pollution incidents, as illustrated by recent disasters such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Even small-scale accidental pollution discharges can have long-term consequences for marine and coastal resources. The UN Convention on the Law of Sea obliges all States to cooperate to prevent accidents and to minimize environmental damage during emergencies by jointly developing and implementing marine pollution contingency plans. The Asia-Pacific is one of the world’s busiest shipping regions, some of its mega-ports experience high rates of vessel congestion, and there are increasing numbers of offshore installations. Marine pollution prevention planning is thus vital for the region. Marine Pollution Contingency Planning: State Practice in Asia-Pacific States outlines and examines marine pollution contingency planning in Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, and the United States.

Book Places of Refuge for Ships in Distress

Download or read book Places of Refuge for Ships in Distress written by Anthony Morrison and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2012-06-07 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of places of refuge for ships in distress is a pressing issue in maritime circles. Places of Refuge for Ships in Distress by Anthony Morrison examines the problem in the context of international and national law and analyses the remedies that have been suggested for resolving this troubling issue. The book examines places of refuge under international law, the laws of four major maritime States and the European Union. Places of Refuge for Ships in Distress analyses two proposed solutions – voluntary guidelines and a new convention. The book asserts that additional solutions are needed and examines potential alternatives. Places of Refuge for Ships in Distress is particularly useful, not only as an assessment of the specific problem, but also the wider examination of international maritime and environmental law that underpins any solution. It will serve as an essential resource to individuals involved in international, maritime and environmental law and those concerned with the threat to the environment posed by the carriage of dangerous goods by sea.
