Book Passive Underwater Target Tracking Using Bearings only Measurements

Download or read book Passive Underwater Target Tracking Using Bearings only Measurements written by Sanagapallea Koteswara Rao and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, passive target tracking using bearings-only measurements is studied for several underwater applications. For submarine (ownship) to submarine (target) application, Pseudo Linear Estimator and its variants are developed for various situations. The algorithm is extended to Electronic Surveillance Measures in Electronic Warfare / Intercept sonar target tracking application, where the measurements are highly aperiodic. In underwater, prior information of the target motion parameters will not be available. Therefore, Pseudo Linear Estimator is developed in such a way to work without initialization of target state vector. As this does not require statistical characteristics of noise, this can be safely used as a back up algorithm, along with any variant of Kalman filter.

Book Particle Filters for Random Set Models

Download or read book Particle Filters for Random Set Models written by Branko Ristic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses state estimation of stochastic dynamic systems from noisy measurements, specifically sequential Bayesian estimation and nonlinear or stochastic filtering. The class of solutions presented in this book is based on the Monte Carlo statistical method. Although the resulting algorithms, known as particle filters, have been around for more than a decade, the recent theoretical developments of sequential Bayesian estimation in the framework of random set theory have provided new opportunities which are not widely known and are covered in this book. This book is ideal for graduate students, researchers, scientists and engineers interested in Bayesian estimation.

Book Sensor Management for Target Tracking Applications

Download or read book Sensor Management for Target Tracking Applications written by Per Boström-Rost and published by Linköping University Electronic Press. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many practical applications, such as search and rescue operations and environmental monitoring, involve the use of mobile sensor platforms. The workload of the sensor operators is becoming overwhelming, as both the number of sensors and their complexity are increasing. This thesis addresses the problem of automating sensor systems to support the operators. This is often referred to as sensor management. By planning trajectories for the sensor platforms and exploiting sensor characteristics, the accuracy of the resulting state estimates can be improved. The considered sensor management problems are formulated in the framework of stochastic optimal control, where prior knowledge, sensor models, and environment models can be incorporated. The core challenge lies in making decisions based on the predicted utility of future measurements. In the special case of linear Gaussian measurement and motion models, the estimation performance is independent of the actual measurements. This reduces the problem of computing sensing trajectories to a deterministic optimal control problem, for which standard numerical optimization techniques can be applied. A theorem is formulated that makes it possible to reformulate a class of nonconvex optimization problems with matrix-valued variables as convex optimization problems. This theorem is then used to prove that globally optimal sensing trajectories can be computed using off-the-shelf optimization tools. As in many other fields, nonlinearities make sensor management problems more complicated. Two approaches are derived to handle the randomness inherent in the nonlinear problem of tracking a maneuvering target using a mobile range-bearing sensor with limited field of view. The first approach uses deterministic sampling to predict several candidates of future target trajectories that are taken into account when planning the sensing trajectory. This significantly increases the tracking performance compared to a conventional approach that neglects the uncertainty in the future target trajectory. The second approach is a method to find the optimal range between the sensor and the target. Given the size of the sensor's field of view and an assumption of the maximum acceleration of the target, the optimal range is determined as the one that minimizes the tracking error while satisfying a user-defined constraint on the probability of losing track of the target. While optimization for tracking of a single target may be difficult, planning for jointly maintaining track of discovered targets and searching for yet undetected targets is even more challenging. Conventional approaches are typically based on a traditional tracking method with separate handling of undetected targets. Here, it is shown that the Poisson multi-Bernoulli mixture (PMBM) filter provides a theoretical foundation for a unified search and track method, as it not only provides state estimates of discovered targets, but also maintains an explicit representation of where undetected targets may be located. Furthermore, in an effort to decrease the computational complexity, a version of the PMBM filter which uses a grid-based intensity to represent undetected targets is derived.

Book Formation Control

Download or read book Formation Control written by Hyo-Sung Ahn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-29 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph introduces recent developments in formation control of distributed-agent systems. Eschewing the traditional concern with the dynamic characteristics of individual agents, the book proposes a treatment that studies the formation control problem in terms of interactions among agents including factors such as sensing topology, communication and actuation topologies, and computations. Keeping pace with recent technological advancements in control, communications, sensing and computation that have begun to bring the applications of distributed-systems theory out of the industrial sphere and into that of day-to-day life, this monograph provides distributed control algorithms for a group of agents that may behave together. Unlike traditional control laws that usually require measurements with respect to a global coordinate frame and communications between a centralized operation center and agents, this book provides control laws that require only relative measurements and communications between agents without interaction with a centralized operator. Since the control algorithms presented in this book do not require any global sensing and any information exchanges with a centralized operation center, they can be realized in a fully distributed way, which significantly reduces the operation and implementation costs of a group of agents. Formation Control will give both students and researchers interested in pursuing this field a good grounding on which to base their work.

Book Target Tracking with Multiple Data Sources

Download or read book Target Tracking with Multiple Data Sources written by H. F. Jarvis and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of a study on the impact of a'priori estimates of range and/or target speed on the bearings-only TMA problem. The method selected for this evaluation was a computer simulation of Maximum A'posteriori Probability (MAP) estimate which incorporates the a'priori statistical information in an asymptotically optimum manner. The a'priori range information represents environmental predictions of likely range bands based on alternate propagation paths (direct, 1st CZ, 2nd CZ, etc.). An additional phase of the study evaluated the use of Depression/Elevation (D/E) estimates from environmental predictions for resolving horizontal bearing from conical angle measurements. The results of the study indicate that the benefits achieved from the use of a'priori range information are algorithm dependent and primarily aid numerical convergence rather than solution accuracy. The use of a'priori range together with estimated D/E does provide solution improvement for conical angle measurements from line arrays. The use of speed estimates improves both numerical convergence and solution quality during the initial TMA legs. (Author).

Book The Influence of Communication Bandwidth on Target Tracking with Angle Only Measurements from Two Platforms

Download or read book The Influence of Communication Bandwidth on Target Tracking with Angle Only Measurements from Two Platforms written by Branko Ristic and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multi-platform angle-only tracking system combines the angular measurements from distributed networked sensors in order to estimate the full kinematic target state. This report investigates the effect of communication bandwidth on track quality in a system which receives angle-only measurements from two networked sensors installed on two airborne moving platforms. The investigation is based on Cramer-Rao lower bound of the mean-square range error for the case considered. The bound is derived for recursive estimators with prior information and compared with two algorithms: (i) maximum likelihood estimation over a cumulative measurement set and (ii) extended Kalman filter with triangulated range estimates.

Book Multiple Target Tracking with Measurements of Uncertain Origin

Download or read book Multiple Target Tracking with Measurements of Uncertain Origin written by Yaakov Bar-Shalom and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of estimating the state of a target in the presence of measurements of uncertain origin has received a great deal of attention recently. When this origin question cannot be resolved with certainty, one can only make probabilistic inferences as to which detection originated from the target of interest. The investigation reported here deals with a new class of problems characterized by the following: the correct measurement arrival (detection) times for a target of interest occur according to a stochastic process. Another stochastic process governs the arrival times of the false alarms. Thus detections occur one at a time and while some of them can be discarded as not having originated from the target, the remaining ones cannot be associated with certainty with the target. This problem is motivated by the fact that in some tracking problems detections from the target of interest occurs on an irregular basis. A procedure that associates probabilistically these measurements to the target is developed together with a corresponding estimator. The optimal estimator as well as a number of suboptimal algorithms that are real time implementable are presented together with simulation results. The simulations also indicate that the probabilistic data association filter with time-of-arrival information is significantly superior to the filter which uses only measurement location information for probabilistic data association.
