Book Brain and Art

  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2019-08-29
  • ISBN : 3030235807
  • Pages : 182 pages

Download or read book Brain and Art written by Bruno Colombo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes and discusses in detail art therapy, a specific tool used to sustain health in affective developments, rehabilitation, motor skills and cognitive functions. Art therapy is based on the assumption that the process of making art (music, dance, painting) sparks emotions and enhances brain activity. Art therapy is used to encourage personal growth, facilitate particular brain areas or activity patterns, and improve neural connectivity. Treating neurological diseases using artistic strategies offers us a unique option for engaging brain structural networks that enhance the brain’s ability to form new connections. Based on brain plasticity, art therapy has the potential to increase our repertoire for treating neurological diseases. Neural substrates are the basis of complex emotions relative to art experiences, and involve a widespread activation of cognitive and motor systems. Accordingly, art therapy has the capacity to modulate behavior, cognition, attention and movement. In this context, art therapy can offer effective tools for improving general well-being, quality of life and motivation in connection with neurological diseases. The book discusses art therapy as a potential group of techniques for the treatment of neurological disturbances and approaches the relationship between humanistic disciplines and neurology from a holistic perspective, reflecting the growing interest in this interconnection.

Download or read book Spider Behaviour written by Marie Elisabeth Herberstein and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiders are often underestimated as suitable behavioural models because of the general belief that due to their small brains their behaviour is innate and mostly invariable. Challenging this assumption, this fascinating book shows that rather than having a limited behavioural repertoire, spiders show surprising cognitive abilities, changing their behaviour to suit their situational needs. The team of authors unravels the considerable intra-specific as well as intra-individual variability and plasticity in different behaviours ranging from foraging and web building to communication and courtship. An introductory chapter on spider biology, systematics and evolution provides the reader with the necessary background information to understand the discussed behaviours and helps to place them into an evolutionary context. Highlighting an under-explored area of behaviour, this book will provide new ideas for behavioural researchers and students unfamiliar with spiders as well as a valuable resource for those already working in this intriguing field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller “Funny and smart as hell” (Bill Gates), Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half showcases her unique voice, leaping wit, and her ability to capture complex emotions with deceptively simple illustrations. FROM THE PUBLISHER: Every time Allie Brosh posts something new on her hugely popular blog Hyperbole and a Half the internet rejoices. This full-color, beautifully illustrated edition features more than fifty percent new content, with ten never-before-seen essays and one wholly revised and expanded piece as well as classics from the website like, “The God of Cake,” “Dogs Don’t Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving,” and her astonishing, “Adventures in Depression,” and “Depression Part Two,” which have been hailed as some of the most insightful meditations on the disease ever written. Brosh’s debut marks the launch of a major new American humorist who will surely make even the biggest scrooge or snob laugh. We dare you not to. FROM THE AUTHOR: This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative—like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it—but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book: Pictures Words Stories about things that happened to me Stories about things that happened to other people because of me Eight billion dollars* Stories about dogs The secret to eternal happiness* *These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!

The highly accessible text is supplemented by exceptional, high-quality photographs, many of them originals, and detailed diagrams. Book And Then There Are Bitches

Download or read book And Then There Are Bitches written by Josephine-De-France and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-04-30 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Makes a Bitch or a Bully? I have to ask the question The bitch versus the bully, or are they one of the same thing?. So let's start to think, take a moment and assess what's it all about well here we go "the bitch".........the one big thing that gives a bitch away is the huddles in the corner of the room or office whispering and looking across at you making you feel intimidated, dont you just hate that! As an individual you become paranoid for a while however I was slightly deaf when I was younger I had learnt a little skill of lip reading so I could tell every word the huddles were saying. Not many people know I can do this and sometimes it is an advantage but actually on this occasion it was not as what I heard was a lot crueller than what I could have ever imagined. This is what inspires me to write this book and include some descriptions of bullies because I really feel that the bitch is a form of bullying in disguise. You will see that I sense that bullying does not have to be physical as you will, hopefully, become aware as it can be mental and/or verbal causing much more upset not just at the time but for some time going forward into the future.
