Book White Trash Princess

Download or read book White Trash Princess written by Molly Price and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molly Price isn't a celebrity. She's never been on a reality show or had her name thrown about in the gossip column. But, like so many of us, she has a story to tell. And what a story it is! From an amazingly complicated upbringing with twists and turns that seem at times to be unbelievable, Molly is able to draw you into her world. It's a world that you may find to be completely different from your own, but most likely you'll be able to find so much to relate to as she introduces you to her family, her friends, and a host of situations that will make you giggle and even tear up, often times in the same sentence. Amazingly insightful, Molly understands the value of the little things in life, knowing that at any moment the life she thought she had finally figured out, just might be rocked from its core, and everything changes. It takes a very open mind to be able to see the good in the worst of times, but that is just Molly. Even in cases of the most horrifying memories from her childhood, White Trash Princess offers a new perspective that will make you see things differently, maybe even think about the kind of legacy you hope to leave behind for those in your life...Brook Morello

Book Consensual Violence

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jill D. Weinberg
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2016-05-31
  • ISBN : 0520964721
  • Pages : 160 pages

Download or read book Consensual Violence written by Jill D. Weinberg and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this novel approach to understanding consent, Jill D. Weinberg presents two case studies of activities in which participants engage in violent acts: competitive mixed martial arts (MMA) and sexual sadism and masochism (BDSM). Participants in both cases assent to injury and thereby engage in a form of social decriminalization, using the language of consent to render their actions legally and socially tolerable. Yet, these activities are treated differently under criminal battery law: sports, including MMA, are generally absolved from the charge of criminal battery, whereas BDSM often represents a violation of criminal battery law. Using interviews and ethnographic observation, Weinberg argues that where law authorizes a person’s consent to an activity, as in MMA, consent is not meaningfully constructed or regulated by the participants themselves. In contrast, where law prohibits a person’s consent to an activity, as in BDSM, participants actively construct and regulate consent. A synthesis of criminal law and ethnography, Consensual Violence is a fascinating account of how consent is framed among participants engaged in violent acts and lays the groundwork for a sociological understanding of the process of decriminalization.

Book Breathe

Download or read book Breathe written by Rickson Gracie and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *** Instant New York Times bestseller *** *** USA Today bestseller *** *** Wall Street Journal bestseller *** From legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA master Rickson Gracie comes a riveting, insightful memoir that weaves together the story of Gracie’s stunning career with the larger history of the Gracie family dynasty and the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, showing how the connection between mind and body can be harnessed for success both inside and outside the ring. Undefeated from the late 1970s through his final fight in the Tokyo Dome in 2000, Rickson Gracie amassed hundreds of victories in the street, on the mat, at the beach, and in the ring. He has joined the pantheon that includes Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and Jackie Chan as one of the most famous martial artists of the twentieth century. Jiu-Jitsu, the fighting style developed and pioneered by his family, has become one of the world’s most prominent martial arts, and Vale Tudo, the “anything goes” style of Brazilian street fighting over which the Gracies had a monopoly, was an early precursor to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Simply put, without the Gracie family, there would be no sport of “MMA,” no 4-billion-dollar UFC empire, and no “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu” at strip malls all across America. In Breathe, for the first time, Rickson reveals the full story of how his father and uncles came to develop Jiu-Jitsu, what it was like to grow up among several generations of world-renowned fighters from the Gracie clan, and the principles and skills that guided him to his undefeated record. From learning to assert himself on the streets of Rio to gaining fame and honor in Japan and emerging through heartbreaking tragedy, the martial arts master shares tales of overcoming challenges, extolling universal virtues and showing readers how pride and ego are the enemies of success. With never-before-seen photos and profound insights into the sport and way of life that only a studied legend can provide, Breathe is an entertaining and magnified view of an enduring legacy as well as an inspiring tale of weathering life’s complexities and overcoming them with style and grace.

Download or read book Amazing Gracie written by Mark Beckloff and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2003-03-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was love at first sight. Amid the frenzied barking and prancing of a house full of Great Danes, one pup was shivering in the corner. Gracie. But when Dan Dye reached her, she struggled to her feet like a clumsy foal, raised her forehead to his, and announced, as clearly as if she had actually spoken the words, You know I'm the one. Now get me outta here! By turns funny, moving, tender, and inspiring, Gracie's tale is a treat for every dog lover. There is Gracie's first morning, racing around Dan in the snowy yard. Gracie's first determination to prove to her step-sisters, Dottie the Dalmation and Sarah the Black Lab, that she's one of the girls. Gracie's defiant romance with a pint-size charmer named Byron, a Boston Terrier from the wrong side of the fence. Then born of necessity, the eureka moment: When Gracie's delicate constitution starts turning into anorexia, Dan teaches himself how to cook, and in three days is baking her the cookies that will spur her appetite, launch Three Dog Bakery, and transform their lives forever. Courage. Compassion. Kindness. Soul. Tenacity. And joy, above all, joy. These qualities Gracie possessed in abundance, and shared with everyone, human or canine, who had the good fortune to cross her path.
