Book Restructuring the Air Operations Center

Download or read book Restructuring the Air Operations Center written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comment from the commander of Tactical Air Command (TAC) that the air operations center (AOC) did not work and that it needed to be fixed stimulated this research project. Having long been associated with the theater air control system (TACS), I have been aware of concerns about the AOC and other elements of the system. Periodically, the Air Force has tried to implement improvements, particularly in hardware, but these efforts sometimes fell short. Some of the expressed concerns included statements that the air tasking order (ATO) was not effective means of controlling the force, that centralized control will break down and leave us unable to perform our task, and that the system is too physically cumbersome and airlift intensive to be useful. Certainty, there is some truth in these comments.

Book Combat Operations Decisionmaking in Tactical Air Command and Control

Download or read book Combat Operations Decisionmaking in Tactical Air Command and Control written by R. Stockton Gaines and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This note examines the Combat Operations function in tactical air command and control, and explores some of the human and organizational issues related to the use of technology (particularly automation) to support and enhance that function. Command and control of tactical air power involves a combination of people and technology, principally communications and data processing technology, In this note, 'people' issues, and the relationships between the human organizations which comprise the command and control system and the technical systems which support them are examined. The authors focus on the command and control process occurring in the Combat Operations section of a Tactical Air Control Center (TACC). This includes monitoring and managing planned air operations as they occur, and modifying those operations to adjust to changing circumstances. TACC can be thought of as a decisionmaking entity in which incoming information about the state of an ongoing conflict is used to manage the employment of airpower resources. (Author).
