Book Computational Methods for Linear Integral Equations

Download or read book Computational Methods for Linear Integral Equations written by Prem Kythe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents numerical methods and computational aspects for linear integral equations. Such equations occur in various areas of applied mathematics, physics, and engineering. The material covered in this book, though not exhaustive, offers useful techniques for solving a variety of problems. Historical information cover ing the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is available in fragments in Kantorovich and Krylov (1958), Anselone (1964), Mikhlin (1967), Lonseth (1977), Atkinson (1976), Baker (1978), Kondo (1991), and Brunner (1997). Integral equations are encountered in a variety of applications in many fields including continuum mechanics, potential theory, geophysics, electricity and mag netism, kinetic theory of gases, hereditary phenomena in physics and biology, renewal theory, quantum mechanics, radiation, optimization, optimal control sys tems, communication theory, mathematical economics, population genetics, queue ing theory, and medicine. Most of the boundary value problems involving differ ential equations can be converted into problems in integral equations, but there are certain problems which can be formulated only in terms of integral equations. A computational approach to the solution of integral equations is, therefore, an essential branch of scientific inquiry.

Book Methods of Numerical Integration

Download or read book Methods of Numerical Integration written by Philip J. Davis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of Numerical Integration, Second Edition describes the theoretical and practical aspects of major methods of numerical integration. Numerical integration is the study of how the numerical value of an integral can be found. This book contains six chapters and begins with a discussion of the basic principles and limitations of numerical integration. The succeeding chapters present the approximate integration rules and formulas over finite and infinite intervals. These topics are followed by a review of error analysis and estimation, as well as the application of functional analysis to numerical integration. A chapter describes the approximate integration in two or more dimensions. The final chapter looks into the goals and processes of automatic integration, with particular attention to the application of Tschebyscheff polynomials. This book will be of great value to theoreticians and computer programmers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past 20 years, there has been enormous productivity in theoretical as well as computational integration. Some attempts have been made to find an optimal or best numerical method and related computer code to put to rest the problem of numerical integration, but the research is continuously ongoing, as this problem is still very much open-

Book Asymptotic Approximations of Integrals

Download or read book Asymptotic Approximations of Integrals written by R. Wong and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymptotic Approximations of Integrals deals with the methods used in the asymptotic approximation of integrals. Topics covered range from logarithmic singularities and the summability method to the distributional approach and the Mellin transform technique for multiple integrals. Uniform asymptotic expansions via a rational transformation are also discussed, along with double integrals with a curve of stationary points. For completeness, classical methods are examined as well. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the fundamental concepts of asymptotics, followed by a discussion on classical techniques used in the asymptotic evaluation of integrals, including Laplace's method, Mellin transform techniques, and the summability method. Subsequent chapters focus on the elementary theory of distributions; the distributional approach; uniform asymptotic expansions; and integrals which depend on auxiliary parameters in addition to the asymptotic variable. The book concludes by considering double integrals and higher-dimensional integrals. This monograph is intended for graduate students and research workers in mathematics, physics, and engineering.

Book Christofell E B

    Book Details:
  • Author : Elwin Bruno Christoffel
  • Publisher : Birkhäuser
  • Release : 1981
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 798 pages

Download or read book Christofell E B written by Elwin Bruno Christoffel and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 1981 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memorial volume is dedicated to E. B. Christoffel on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth. Its aim is, on the one hand, to present the life of Christoffel and the scientific milieu in which he worked and, on the other hand, to present a survey of his work not only in its historical context but especially in the frame of contemporary mathematics and physics. For one thing, this book contains expanded versions of the twelve invited lectures given at the International Christoffel Symposium, held on November 8- 11, 1979 at Aachen and Monschau. For another, the scope of these papers has been broadened by soliciting some fourty-five additional invited articles, concerned either with further aspects of the work of Christoffel or with specia lized topics in fields in which Christoffel had worked. This should give the reader a greater opportunity to appreciate the richness of Christoffel's contributions to the mathematical and physical sciences, and not only its immediate impact but also its subsequent infiuence. It can be discerned that Christoffel did basic work not only in differential geometry or, better still, in classical tensor analysis, thereby supplying the mathematical foundations of Einstein's theory of general relativity, but also in a variety of other areas of mathematics. The scope of Christoffel's work can be appreciated from the following synopsis of the thirteen chapters into which the festschrift is divided. Chap."
