Book Tables of Z Functions for Atmosphere Entry Analyses

Download or read book Tables of Z Functions for Atmosphere Entry Analyses written by Dean R. Chapman and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables are presented at Z functions and related quantities for computing entry trajectories into planetary atmospheres. These tables form a supplement to the analyses previously published in NASA TR R-11 and TR R-55. The results apply to shallow entries of lifting and non-lifting vehicles of arbitrary mass and size having constant aerodynamic coefficients. Results for nonlifting vehicles also apply to steep entries into earth's atmosphere. Tabular values for various entry angles cover the range of entry velocity from 1.0 to 3.0 times circular velocity, and the range of lift-drag ratio from -4 to +4.

Book Astronautics

Download or read book Astronautics written by Ulrich Walter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 851 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introductory text covers all the key concepts, relationships, and ideas behind spaceflight and is the perfect companion for students pursuing courses on or related to astronautics. As a crew member of the STS-55 Space Shuttle mission and a full professor of astronautics at the Technical University of Munich, Ulrich Walter is an acknowledged expert in the field. This book is based on his extensive teaching and work with students, and the text is backed up by numerous examples drawn from his own experience. With its end-of-chapter examples and problems, this work is suitable for graduate level or even undergraduate courses in spaceflight, as well as for professionals working in the space industry. This third edition includes substantial revisions of several sections to extend their coverage. These include both theoretical extensions such as the study of relative motion in near-circular orbits, and more practical matters such as additional details about jet-engine and general rocket performance. New sections address regularized equations of orbital motion and their algebraic solutions and also state vector propagation; two new chapters are devoted to orbit geometry and orbit determination and to thermal radiation physics and modelling.

Book Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters

Download or read book Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters written by Edward Seckel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters deals with aircraft flying qualities that determine the stability and control of airplanes and helicopters. It includes problems based on real aircraft, selected to represent the gamut from simple to complicated, and from conventional utility designs to futuristic research types. Many of these problems involve comparison of theory and experiment to demonstrate their mutual relationship. Comprised of 25 chapters, this book begins with a discussion on the aerodynamics of the component parts related to the lift and moment characteristics of an airplane, including wings and associated accessories; bodies such as fuselages, nacelles, and tip tanks; and control surfaces. The reader is then introduced to some mathematical techniques for linear differential equations; steady flight at different speeds; and stick force and control-free stability. Subsequent chapters focus on flaps and high-lift devices; power and compressibility effects; and the manner in which the aircraft responds to the application of control. Aeroelasticity and longitudinal equations of motion are also examined. This monograph is intended for undergraduate and graduate students taking modern engineering courses.
