"And have them make Me a sanctuary, so that I may dwell among them. In accordance with all that I show you concerning the pattern of the Tabernacle and of all its furniture, so you shall make it." -EXODUS 25:8-9 From the ends of the earth, this New Zealand author travelled to Israel and visited the life-sized replica of the Tabernacle of Moses inside Timna Park near Eliat. Book The Temple and the Tabernacle

Download or read book The Temple and the Tabernacle written by J. Daniel Hays and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grasp the Majesty, Beauty, and Significance of God's Dwelling Places At various points in Israel's history, God dwelt in specific, significant places, most notably in the tabernacle and the temple. These structures, meticulously planned, extravagantly furnished, and regularly frequented by the devout, were more than just places of worship and sacrifice. They were pictures of God's relationship with his chosen people and of the atoning work that would be done by the Messiah. To understand the tabernacle and the temple, then, is to understand how we are brought into God's family through the sacrifice of his only Son, Jesus. Visually stunning and theologically rich, this full-color resource brings together the latest scholarship and archeological discoveries to bring God's dwelling places alive for modern believers. It places these important structures in their historical and theological contexts, connects them with the overall biblical story, and shows how they bring meaning and depth to the faith of Christians today.

Book The Tabernacle in the Wilderness

Download or read book The Tabernacle in the Wilderness written by Willie J. Murphy Jr. and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tabernacle is the greatest of all the Old Testament "types" of Christ. As we look closely at its furniture, its priesthood, and its feast observances, we are afforded a glimpse of God's glory, His grace, and His love for His chosen people. The sacrifices and rituals performed in the Tabernacle in the wilderness only pointed ahead to the time that God would reconcile His people to himself. It is in this study of the Tabernacle that "tangibles become teachable." It is where Old Testament realities that could be touched become New Testament principles that must be put into practice. It is through this study of the Tabernacle that we more fully understand the principle of "the actuality of the old depicts the spirituality of the new." In this study, we get to see Jesus Christ, His purpose and process of redemption, His plan of salvation, and His role as Savior. The Tabernacle is a study of God's masterpiece of typography. To come away from a study of the Tabernacle as an expert in the Tabernacle and still not understand how to approach and worship the Creator, and having not experienced Jesus during your study will basically have been an exercise in futility. The purpose of this study is not to acquire knowledge for the sake of having more knowledge. It is not to make one a Bible scholar on the Tabernacle. Instead, the purpose of this study is to reveal Jesus throughout the Tabernacle and to enhance both one's corporate and individual worship experiences. It is my sincerest hope and prayer that this book will give you a fresh perspective of worship, a better understanding of His holiness, and a renewed respect for the presence of God.

  • Author : Taylor G. Petrey
  • Publisher : UNC Press Books

Download or read book Tabernacles of Clay written by Taylor G. Petrey and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taylor G. Petrey's trenchant history takes a landmark step forward in documenting and theorizing about Latter-day Saints (LDS) teachings on gender, sexual difference, and marriage. Drawing on deep archival research, Petrey situates LDS doctrines in gender theory and American religious history since World War II. His challenging conclusion is that Mormonism is conflicted between ontologies of gender essentialism and gender fluidity, illustrating a broader tension in the history of sexuality in modernity itself. As Petrey details, LDS leaders have embraced the idea of fixed identities representing a natural and divine order, but their teachings also acknowledge that sexual difference is persistently contingent and unstable. While queer theorists have built an ethics and politics based on celebrating such sexual fluidity, LDS leaders view it as a source of anxiety and a tool for the shaping of a heterosexual social order. Through public preaching and teaching, the deployment of psychological approaches to "cure" homosexuality, and political activism against equal rights for women and same-sex marriage, Mormon leaders hoped to manage sexuality and faith for those who have strayed from heteronormativity.

Book Reliquary Tabernacles in Fourteenth century Italy

Download or read book Reliquary Tabernacles in Fourteenth century Italy written by Beth Williamson and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2020 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ground-breaking study of the enigmatic and unique tabernacles from fourteenth-century Italy, which for the first time combined relics and images.Images and relics were central tools in the process of devotional practice in medieval Europe. The reliquary tabernacles that emerged in the 1340s, in the area of Central Italy surrounding the city of Siena, combined images and relics, presented visibly together, within painted and decorated wooden frames. In these tabernacles the various media and materials worked together to create a powerful and captivating ensemble, usable in several contexts, both in procession and static, as the centre of focussed, prayerful attention. This book looks at Siena and Central Italy as environments of artistic invention, and at Sienese painters in particular as experts in experimentation whose ingenuity encouraged the development of this new form of devotional technology. It is the first full-length study to focus in depth on the materiality of these tabernacles, investigating the connotations and effects of the materials from which they were made. It examines especially the effect of bringing relics and images together, and considers how the impressions of variety and abundance created by the multiplication of materials give birth to meaning and encourage certain kinds of action or thought.connotations and effects of the materials from which they were made. Book A Brief Study of the Tabernacle

Download or read book A Brief Study of the Tabernacle written by Rev. Ellsworth A. Archer and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-27 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reverend Archer Ellsworth examines the nature of the tabernacle, a small and portable earthen dwelling which housed the Israelites during the Biblical era. A portable yet distinctive dwelling, the tabernacle would accompany the Jews through their exodus from Egypt, and into the lands of Canaan. For the most part, the tabernacle is mentioned in the Book of Exodus, which details its physical characteristics and purpose as mobile housing and a gathering place for the transitory Jewish peoples. Most vitally, God ordered Moses to remove adornments from the tabernacle while continuing to use it throughout his people's journeys in the unsettled countryside and into the Promised Land. Ellsworth Archer (1863 - 1944) was an author, preacher and committed Christian who spent his life in study of the Bible. Working in San Joaquin County, California for most of his adulthood, he was active in the church community of the state and would assist in the establishment of multiple churches.
