Download or read book Simultaneous Analysis of Near and Far Detector Samples of the T2K Experiment to Measure Muon Neutrino Disappearance written by Casey Bojechko and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) experiment is a long-baseline neutrino-oscillation experiment that searches for neutrino oscillations with measurements of an off-axis, high purity, muon neutrino beam. The neutrinos are detected 295 km from production by the Super Kamiokande detector. A near detector 280 m from the production target measures the unoscillated beam. This thesis outlines an analysis using samples in the near detector and Super Kamiokande to measure the disappearance of muon neutrinos. To manage the complexity this analysis, a Markov Chain Monte Carlo framework was used to maximize a likelihood to estimate the oscillation parameters. T2K Run 1+2+3 data (3.010 x1020 POT) is used for the analysis ... .

Book DAQ Software Contributions Absolute Scale Energy Calibration and Background Evaluation for the NOvA Experiment at Fermilab

Download or read book DAQ Software Contributions Absolute Scale Energy Calibration and Background Evaluation for the NOvA Experiment at Fermilab written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NOvA (NuMI Off-axis ve [nu_e] Appearance) Experiment is a long-baseline accelerator neutrino experiment currently in its second year of operations. NOvA uses the Neutrinos from the Main Injector (NuMI) beam at Fermilab, and there are two main off-axis detectors: a Near Detector at Fermilab and a Far Detector 810 km away at Ash River, MN. The work reported herein is in support of the NOvA Experiment, through contributions to the development of data acquisition software, providing an accurate, absolute-scale energy calibration for electromagnetic showers in NOvA detector elements, crucial to the primary electron neutrino search, and through an initial evaluation of the cosmic background rate in the NOvA Far Detector, which is situated on the surface without significant overburden. Additional support work for the NOvA Experiment is also detailed, including DAQ Server Administration duties and a study of NOvA's sensitivity to neutrino oscillations into a "sterile" state.

Book Predicting the T2K Neutrino Flux and Measuring Oscillation Parameters

Download or read book Predicting the T2K Neutrino Flux and Measuring Oscillation Parameters written by Tomislav Vladisavljevic and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-14 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports the calculation of neutrino production for the T2K experiment; the most precise a priori estimate of neutrino production that has been achieved for any accelerator-based neutrino oscillation experiment to date. The production of intense neutrino beams at accelerator facilities requires exceptional understanding of chains of particle interactions initiated within extended targets. In this thesis, the calculation of neutrino production for T2K has been improved by using measurements of particle production from a T2K replica target, taken by the NA61/SHINE experiment. This enabled the reduction of the neutrino production uncertainty to the level of 5%, which will have a significant impact on neutrino oscillation and interaction measurements by T2K in the coming years. In addition to presenting the revised flux calculation methodology in an accessible format, this thesis also reports a joint T2K measurement of muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance, and the accompanying electron neutrino and antineutrino appearance, with the updated beam constraint.

Book Measurement of the Muon Neutrino Charged Current Interactions and the Muon Neutrino Single Pion Cross Section on CH Using the T2K Near Detector

Download or read book Measurement of the Muon Neutrino Charged Current Interactions and the Muon Neutrino Single Pion Cross Section on CH Using the T2K Near Detector written by Raquel Castillo Fernández and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Letter on Intent to Build an Off axis Detector to Study sub Mu sub E Oscillations with the NuMI Neutrino Beam Version 6 0

Download or read book Letter on Intent to Build an Off axis Detector to Study sub Mu sub E Oscillations with the NuMI Neutrino Beam Version 6 0 written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of neutrino masses is of fundamental importance. Neutrino oscillations seem to be the only tool available to us to unravel the pattern of neutrino masses and, perhaps, shed some light on the origin of masses in general. The NuMI neutrino beam line and the MINOS experiment represent a major investment of US High Energy Physics in the area of neutrino physics. the forthcoming results could decisively establish neutrino oscillations as the underlying physics mechanism for the atmospheric?{sub {mu}} deficit and provide a precise measurement of the corresponding oscillation parameters,?m322 and sin2 2?23. This, however, is just a beginning of a long journey into uncharted territories. The key to these new territories is the detection of?{sub {mu}} →?{sub e} oscillations associated with the atmospheric?{sub {mu}} deficit, controlled by the little known mixing angle sin22?13. A precise measurement of the amplitude of these oscillations will enable a determination of the pattern of the mass hierarchy of neutrinos. If the solar neutrino experiments determine that the value?m122 is in the range of 10−5-10−4 eV2 then the measurement of the CP violation in the neutrino sector may well be within our reach. The full potential of the NuMI neutrino beam can be exploited by complementing the MINOS detector, under construction, with a new detector(s) placed at some off-axis position and collecting data in parallel with MINOS. The first phase of the proposed program includes a new detector, optimized for?{sub e} detection, with a fiducial mass of the order os 20 kton and exposed to neutrino and antineutrino beams. In a five year run its sensitivity to the?{sub {mu}} →?{sub e} oscillations will be at least a factor of ten beyond the current limit. The future direction of the program will depend on the results of this first phase, but it is very likely that it will be combination of a significant increase of the neutrino beam intensity via an upgraded proton source and an increase of the detector mass by a factor of five or so. Depending on the circumstances, the goals of Phase II may be a further increase of the sensitivity of a search for?{sub {mu}} →?{sub e} oscillations, or, perhaps, a measurement of the CP violating phase? in the lepton sector.
