Book excerpt: A systematic review was undertaken with the primary aim of evaluating the effects of interventions aimed at persons bereaved by suicide. A secondary aim was to provide a descriptive overview of interventions for persons bereaved by suicide that have been reported in the litterature. The evidence we have identified and appraised is not robust enough to provide clear implications for practice though some tentative conclusions are made about the effectiveness of a psychiatric nurse led CBT family intervention, psychologist-led group therapy intervention for children and a combined health professional and volunteer led group therapy intervention for adults. There is a pressing need for methodologically sound RCTs to confirm whether such interventions are helpful and, if so, for whom.
