Book Synthetic Fuels

Download or read book Synthetic Fuels written by Ronald F. Probstein and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the outgrowth of a graduate course the authors taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was designed to fill an urgent need—the training of engineers in the production of synthetic fuels to replace dwindling supplies of natural ones. The authors presented synthetic fuels as a unified engineering subject, while recognizing that many of its principles are well-understood aspects of various engineering fields. The presentation begins with a review of chemical and physical fundamentals and conversion fundamentals, and proceeds to coal gasification and gas upgrading. Subsequent chapters examine liquids and clean solids produced from coal, liquids obtained from oil shale and tar sands, biomass conversion, and environmental, economic, and related aspects of synthetic fuel use. The text is directed toward beginning graduate students and advanced undergraduates in chemical and mechanical engineering, but should also appeal to students from other disciplines, including environmental, mining, petroleum, and industrial engineering, as well as chemistry. It also serves as a reference and guide for professionals.

Book New Sources of Oil and Gas

Download or read book New Sources of Oil and Gas written by S. S. Penner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Sources of Oil & Gas: Gases from Coal, Liquid Fuels from Coal, Shale Tar Sands, and Heavy Oil Sources is a collection of papers that covers various concerns in exploiting alternative sources of oil and gas. The book first covers the essential features of developing coal-gasification and coal-liquefaction technologies, and then proceeds to discussing the results of a detailed evaluation of technologies for shale-oil recovery. The last article discusses the assessment of research areas that affect the prospects for oil recovery from oil sources and tar sands. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of disciplines involved in the fuel industry.
