Book Chromatography A Century of Discovery 1900 2000 The Bridge to The Sciences Technology

Download or read book Chromatography A Century of Discovery 1900 2000 The Bridge to The Sciences Technology written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-12-18 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chromatography - A Century of Discovery 1900-2000 represents the combined thinking and contributions of many chromatographers. It includes several in-depth feature chapters covering the Beginnings of Chromatography, which highlights M.S. Tswett, the inventor of chromatography, and several other early pioneers. Included are the contributions of several Nobel Laureates, and 125 Chromatography Award Winners and contributors, an extensive bibliography of publications on the History of the Evolution of Chromatography; a presentation of Major International Symposia supporting chromatography and as a bridge to selected sciences. Special chapters are written by well-known Chromatographers on Support and Stationary Phases, and Separations followed by a chapter on Milestones and Paradigm Shifts in Science. New discoveries in the life sciences and medicine, agriculture, the environment and separations technology in the 21st century will rely immeasurably on the 20th century research tools in chromatography and those yet to be developed.

Book Reference Materials for Environmental Analysis

Download or read book Reference Materials for Environmental Analysis written by Raymond E. Clement and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-11-25 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When an environmental analysis is performed-for example, to determine the quality of water in a lake or to analyze contaminants in fish-it is necessary to have a standard reference against which to compare results. Reference Materials for Environmental Analysis covers standards for environmental analysis in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and elsewhere around the globe. It contains all standards, including those for soil, water, gaseous, and biological analysis. Government, private, and academic laboratories will all need a copy of this book!

Book PAHs and Related Compounds

Download or read book PAHs and Related Compounds written by Alasdair N. Neilson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Chemistry is a relatively young science. Interest in this subject, however, is growing very rapidly and, although no agreement has been reached as yet about the exact content and limits of this interdisciplinary discipline, there appears to be increasing interest in seeing environmental topics which are based on chemistry embodied in this subject. One of the first objectives of Environ mental Chemistry must be the study of the environment and of natural chemical processes which occur in the environment. A major purpose of this series on Environmental Chemistry, therefore, is to present a reasonably uniform view of various aspects of the chemistry of the environment and chemical reactions occurring in the environment. The industrial activities of man have given a new dimension to Environ mental Chemistry. We have now synthesized and described over five million chemical compounds and chemical industry produces about hundred and fifty million tons of synthetic chemicals annually. We ship billions of tons of oil per year and through mining operations and other geophysical modifications, large quantities of inorganic and organic materials are released from their natural deposits. Cities and metropolitan areas of up to 15 million inhabitants produce large quantities of waste in relatively small and confined areas. Much of the chemical products and waste products of modern society are released into the environment either during production, storage, transport, use or ultimate disposal. These released materials participate in natural cycles and reactions and frequently lead to interference and disturbance of natural systems.

Book Synthesis and Characterization of Liquid Crystalline Polysiloxanes Containing Benzyl Ether Mesogens

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Liquid Crystalline Polysiloxanes Containing Benzyl Ether Mesogens written by C. S. Hsu and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Side chain liquid crystalline polysiloxanes were synthesized by the hydrosilation of poly(methylhydrosiloxane) with p-(1-undecenyl-11-oxy) benzyl ethers of: 4-cyanophenol (IM), 4-methoxyphenol (IIM), 4-cyano-4'-hydroxybiphenyl (IIIM), 4-methoxy-4'-hydroxybiphenyl (IVM) and 2-cyano-6-hydroxynaphthalene (VM). The phase behavior of both monomeric and polymeric liquid crystals was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and optical polarization microscopy. IM is a monotropic liquid crystal, IIM is crystalline, IIIM and IVM are enantiotropic liquid crystals, while VM presents two virtual liquid crystalline transitions and crystalline polymorphism. All the synthesized polysiloxanes present enantiotropic smectic mesomorphism.
