This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Organometallic Chemistry of N-heterocyclic Carbenes describes various aspects of N-heterocyclic Carbenes (NHCs) and their transition metal complexes at an entry level suitable for advanced undergraduate students and above. The book starts with a historical overview on the quest for carbenes and their complexes. Subsequently, unique properties, reactivities and nomenclature of the four classical NHCs derived from imidazoline, imidazole, benzimidazole and 1,2,4-triazole are elaborated. General and historically relevant synthetic aspects for NHCs, their precursors and complexes are then explained. The book continues with coverage on the preparation and characteristics of selected NHC complexes containing the most common metals in this area, i.e. Ni, Pd, Pt, Ag, Cu, Au, Ru, Rh and Ir. The book concludes with an overview and outlook on the development of various non-classical NHCs beyond the four classical types. Topics covered include: Stabilization, dimerization and decomposition of NHCs Stereoelectronic properties of NHCs and their evaluation Diversity of NHCs Isomers of NHC complexes and their identification NMR spectroscopic signatures of NHC complexes normal, abnormal and mesoionic NHCs The Organometallic Chemistry of N-heterocyclic Carbenes is an essential resource for all students and researchers interested in this increasingly important and popular field of research.

Book Synthesis and Chemistry of Cationic D Sup 0 Metal Alkyl Complexes

Download or read book Synthesis and Chemistry of Cationic D Sup 0 Metal Alkyl Complexes written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long term goals of this project are to design and synthesize highly unsaturated, electrophilic metal complexes and to explore their use as catalysts, reagents, and/or model systems for olefin polymerization and C-H activation chemistry. During the 1990 budget year we have focused our attention on (i) the ligand C-H activation chemistry of Cp2Zr(CH3)(THF) and related cationic, d{sup o} Zr alkyl complexes, and (ii) the synthesis of new classes of group 4 metal alkyl complexes with non-Cp2M ligand environments.

Book Expanding F Element Chemistry

Download or read book Expanding F Element Chemistry written by Elizabeth Montalvo and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation develops f element chemistry by investigating and comparing the synthesis, coordination chemistry, and reactivity of lanthanide and actinide metal complexes with diazoalkane derivatives and guanidinates. The bis(cyclopentadienyl) ligand unit, [(n5-C5ME5)2]2-, was used to conduct these studies since it has previously proven to be a reliable route for investigating new ligands in f element chemistry. This is because it is relatively inert, provides solubility and stability to the reactive metal center, and allows spectroscopic and structural data to be obtained that is useful for analyzing this chemistry. Diazoalkanes, RRLCN2, are of interest because they are important organic substrates that are useful as carbene precursors and as reagents for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Although the chemistry of diazoalkanes with the transition metals has been heavily studied, little is known about f element chemistry with these compounds. The lanthanides and actinides are different in their behavior with diazoalkanes. Lanthanides make cyanoamide complexes that can be converted by their reaction with nitriles to complexes of 1,2,3-triazoles, which are heterocycles with pharmaceutical, industrial, and agrochemical applications. In contrast, uranium makes very soluble products that do not react with nitriles. A facile synthetic route to hydrazonato complexes was also developed from lanthanide allyl complexes and diazoalkanes during this study. The chemistry of the bicyclic guanidinate ligand, (hpp)1-, was examined with the f elements because this ligand has the potential to stabilize higher oxidation states which are rare with the f elements. The (hpp)1- ligand can be readily incorporated into complexes of Ln3+, U3+, and U4+ and it can stabilize rare examples of mono-alkyl, hydride, and "tuck-in", (n5:n1-C5Me4CH2)2- U4+ complexes as well as U5+ in some cases. The reactivity of the uranium "tuck-in" complex was examined because this unit is frequently proposed as an intermediate in mechanistic schemes involving alkyl C-H bond activation with the f elements. The effect of the {(C5Me5)2(hpp)}3- ligand combination on uranium mono-alkyl and hydride reactivity was also examined. Altogether, the results from these studies expand our knowledge of f element chemistry and highlight the differences in chemical reactivity of the f elements compared to the transition metals.

Book Olefin Polymerization

Download or read book Olefin Polymerization written by Walter Kaminsky and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2006-08-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With an enormous velocity, olefin polymerization has expanded to one of the most significant fields in polymers since the first industrial use about 50 years ago. In 2005, 100 million tons of polyolefins were produced - the biggest part was catalyzed by metallorganic compounds. The Hamburg Macromolecular Symposium 2005 with the title "Olefin Polymerization" involved topics such as new catalysts and cocatalysts, kinetics, mechanism and polymer reaction engineering, synthesis of special polymers, and characterization of polyolefins. The conference combined scientists from different disciplines to discuss latest research results of polymers and to offer each other the possibility of cooperation. This is reflected in this volume, which contains invited lectures and selected posters presented at the symposium.
