Book Synthesis and Characterization of Some Nanometaloxides and Their Application as Electrochemical Sensor

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Some Nanometaloxides and Their Application as Electrochemical Sensor written by Sathish Reddy R and published by Independent Author. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sensors are the devices, which are composed of an active sensing material with a signal "transducer". The role of these two important components in sensors is to transmit the signal without any amplification from a selective compound or from a change in a reaction. These devices produce any one of the signals as electrical, thermal or optical output signals which could be converted in to digital signals for further processing. One of the ways of classifying sensors is done based on these output signals. Among these, electrochemical sensors have more advantage over the others because; in these, the electrodes can sense the materials which are present within the host without doing any damage to the host system. On the other hand, sensors can be broadly classified in to two categories as chemical sensors and biosensors. The biosensors can be defined in terms of sensing aspects, where these sensors can sense biochemical compounds such as biological proteins, nucleotides and even tissues [1-4]. Within these sensors, the active sensing material on the electrode should act as a catalyst and catalyze the reaction of the biochemical chemical compounds to obtain the output signals [1,5, 6]. The combination of these two different ways of classifications has given rise to a new type of sensors which are called electrochemical biosensors, where the electrochemical methods are applied for the construction and working of a biosensor [ l, 7-9]. The selection and development of an active material is a challenge. The active sensing materials may be of any kind as whichever acts as a catalyst for sensing a particular analyte or a set of analytes. The recent development in the nanotechnology has paved the way for large number of new materials and devices of desirable properties which have useful functions for numerous electrochemical sensor and biosensor applications [l, 10-14]. Basically by creating nanostructure, it is possible to control the fundamental properties of materials even without changing their chemical composition. In this way the attractive world of low dimensional systems, together with the current tendencies on the fabrication of functional nanostructured arrays could play a key role in the new trends of nanotechnology [ 1, 15-17]. Further, the nanostructures can be used for both efficient transport of electrons and optical excitation, and these two factors make.

Book Voltammetric Analysis of Platinum Group Metals Using a Bismuth Silver Bimetallic Nanoparticles Sensor

Download or read book Voltammetric Analysis of Platinum Group Metals Using a Bismuth Silver Bimetallic Nanoparticles Sensor written by Charlton van der Vinn and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study dealt with the development of a bismuth-silver bimetallic nanosensor for differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry of platinum group metals (PGMs) in environmental samples. The nanosensor was fabricated by drop coating a thin bismuth-silver bimetallic film onto the active area of the screen-printed carbon electrodes. Optimization parameters such as pH, dimethylglyoxime (DMG) concentration, deposition potential and deposition time, stability test and interferences were also studied. In 0.2 M acetate buffer (pH = 4.7) solution and DMG as the chelating agent, the reduction signal for PGMs ranged from 0.2 to 1.0 ng L−1. In the study of possible interferences, the results have shown that Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(III), Na+, SO42−, and PO43− do not interfere with Pd(II), Pt(II), and Rh(III) in the presence of DMG with sodium acetate buffer as the supporting electrolyte solution. The limit of detection for Pd(II), Pt(II), and Rh(III) was found to be 0.07, 0.06 and 0.2 ng L−1, respectively. Good precision for the sensor application was obtained with a reproducibility of 7.58% for Pd(II), 6.31% for Pt(II), and 5.37% for Rh(III) (n = 10).

Book Synthesis Characterization and Application of Pd Pt Bimetallic Nanoparticles and Carbon Nanotubes Supported Nanocomposites

Download or read book Synthesis Characterization and Application of Pd Pt Bimetallic Nanoparticles and Carbon Nanotubes Supported Nanocomposites written by Guoqiang Ren and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A study on the synthesis of Pd-Pt alloy nanoparticles and composition evolution of the alloys was reported. The synthesis followed a hot organometallic route, with Pd and Pt acetylacetonate as the metal precursors and trioctylphosphine as the solvent. The size of the Pd-Pt nanoparticles narrowed down with time and reached a final size of 3.5 nm in about 10 min. The alloy compositions evolved with time and reached the preset Pd to Pt ratio of precursors in 120 min. An atomic exchange process between the Pt-TOP complex and the Pd atoms at the nanoparticle surface was proposed to elucidate this synthesis process"--Abstract, leaf iv.

Book Silver Nanoparticles

Download or read book Silver Nanoparticles written by Audrey E. Welles and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silver nanoparticles are nanoparticles of silver, of between 1 nm and 100 nm in size. While frequently described as being 'silver' some are composed of a large percentage of silver oxide due to their large ratio of surface to bulk silver atoms. This book explores the properties, characterisation and application of silver nanoparticles on topics such as low and high-order nonlinearities of silver nanoparticles; the synthesis, growth mechanisms and tuneable optical and catalytic properties of silver nanoparticles; laser-induced shape transformation of silver nanoparticles embedded in glass and others.

Book Synthesis Characterization and Catalytic Investigations of Pt based Binary bimetallic and Ternary trimetallic Nanoparticles

Download or read book Synthesis Characterization and Catalytic Investigations of Pt based Binary bimetallic and Ternary trimetallic Nanoparticles written by Gerard Malefane Leteba and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work tests the hypothesis that nanoparticles of 75 at.% platinum (Pt) composition and anisotropic morphology, will outperform standard catalysts in (PEMFC) hydrogen fuel cells. A survey of the scientific literature on this topic is first presented. The synthetic strategies which were developed for the preparation of novel Pt-based binary (bimetallic) and ternary (trimetallic) nanoparticles, containing nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co) and/or vanadium (V), are then described. The synthesis protocols for solution-grown colloidal nanoparticles all required the heat-up of a chemical mixture (of metal precursors, surfactants as stabilizers, solvents and/or reductants) from room temperature to high temperatures (up to 310 °C), for thermal decomposition or thermal co-reduction. These protocols were successful in producing nanostructures of high quality, with exceptional solubility in polar solvents such as chloroform after repeated washing and drying. Detailed microstructural investigations of the synthesized nanoparticles were carried out using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), TEM and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The nanoparticles were anisotropic with composition around 75 at.% Pt. Depending on the particular synthesis protocol, the as-prepared nanoparticles exhibited different morphologies, surface facets, size and structure (alloy or core-shell).
