Book Synchro betatron Resonances in the 8 GeV Proton Driver

Download or read book Synchro betatron Resonances in the 8 GeV Proton Driver written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major difference of these two versions is the size (circumference) and the maximum energy. In the first study, the circumference is chosen to be 711.3m, which is 1.5 times the present Booster, with the maximum energy of 16 GeV. In the second version, it is mandated to be the same as Booster together with the same maximum energy of 8 GeV. One of the major impacts of the reduced size of the ring is the inevitable reduction in the total length of available space for injection/collimation/extraction systems and for rf cavities, 14 slots of 7.43m each in the smaller ring compared with 24 slots of 6.15m each in the larger ring. Since each cavity occupies a slot of 2.35m and 22 cavities are desirable, seven or eight slots out of 14 in the smaller ring must be reserved for rf, only six or seven remaining for all other systems. The constraint in space is particularly troublesome for the extraction system since the beam loss at extraction (at the highest beam energy) is the major concern of any high intensity proton machines.

Book High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider The New Machine For Illuminating The Mysteries Of The Universe Second Edition

Download or read book High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider The New Machine For Illuminating The Mysteries Of The Universe Second Edition written by Lucio Rossi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the physics and technology of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC), highlighting the most recent modifications that shaped the final configuration, which is now in the advanced stages of its construction. This new High-Luminosity configuration of the LHC is the major accelerator project of this decade and will give new life to the LHC after its first fifteen years of operation, allowing for more precise measurements of the Higgs Boson and extending the mass limit reach for new particles. The LHC is such a highly optimized machine that upgrading it requires breakthroughs in many areas. Unsurprisingly, the High-Luminosity LHC required a long R&D period to bring into life an innovative accelerator magnet, based on Nb3Sn and capable of generating fields in the 11-12 T range, as well as many other new accelerator technologies such as superconducting compact RF crab cavities, advanced collimation concepts, a novel powering technology based on high temperature superconducting links, and others. The book is a self-consistent series of papers, which addresses all technology and design issues. Each paper can be read separately as well. The first few papers provide a summary of the whole project, the physics motivation, and the accelerator challenges. Altogether, this book brings the reader to the heart of the technologies that will also be key for the next generation of hadron colliders. This book is an essential reference for physicists and engineers in the field of hadron colliders and LHC related issues and can also be read by postgraduate students.

Book Excitation of the Synchro betatron Resonances by the Beam beam Interaction in the Tevatron Run II Lattice

Download or read book Excitation of the Synchro betatron Resonances by the Beam beam Interaction in the Tevatron Run II Lattice written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effect of different mechanisms of the synchro-betatron coupling (dispersion function at the interaction points, chromatic tune modulation, finite bunch length) on the p-bar stability in the Tevatron Run II configuration is considered. It is found that the long-range interactions in the presence of large dispersion produce large contribution ((approximately)10) to the chromaticity of the betatron tunes. This chromaticity, in its turn, can give rise to multiple synchrotron satellites of the betatron resonances increasing their effective width. Novel formulae are presented which permit to significantly speed up analytical calculations of the beam-beam tuneshifts and resonance strength.

Book Hadron Colliders At The Highest Energy And Luminosity Proceedings Of The 34th Wrshp Of The Infn Project

Download or read book Hadron Colliders At The Highest Energy And Luminosity Proceedings Of The 34th Wrshp Of The Infn Project written by Alessandro G Ruggiero and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-02-24 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quest for the revelation of the deepest composition of the structure of matter and the nature of the fundamental forces that bind them together is underway, using experiments with colliding hadron beams at the largest energy and luminosity that present and near-future accelerator technology can allow. This book gives the physics motivation of such a collider and discusses the benefits and requirements of the experimental program. Obviously the size of the collider is a major concern, and that is determined by the bending field which is possible to achieve in superconducting magnets; the book includes a discussion on the ultimate expected magnetic field that can be reached. There are also presentations of straw-man designs; in particular, the effects of the synchrotron radiation, which are quite significant at very large energies and large bending fields, are examined, with the possibility of taking advantage of them for the attainment of small beam size and thus luminosity. In addition, detector issues are discussed, especially in relation to the large expected background, the total number of events, and the difficulties of gathering and selecting relevant events. Finally, there is a discussion on the social and political implications of such a project.
